“How many times have people used a pen or paintbrush because they couldn’t pull the trigger?”
— Virginia Woolf
Joker (2019) *W/ SPOILERS!*
Joker is a fantastic movie.
Joaquin Phoenix is a fantastic Joker.
This movie, in my opinion, brings us the most relatable and most sympathetic version of Joker that we’ve ever seen in live-action film. A man who simply wanted to “bring joy and laughter to the world” and his descent into madness through the constant barrage of a toxic society.
Arthur Fleck is a very sympathetic character. In the beginning, he’s sweet and socially awkward, peaceful and shies away from confrontation. He’s trying to work with the world, color inside its lines, but all it does is invite pain. The system doesn’t care about him, takes away his medication, leaves him unable to cope and without employment to care for himself or his mother. His own appointed social worker offers him no help, even after she notes several obvious suicidal thoughts within his journal.
In this iteration of Joker, Arthur has a neurological condition where he laughs at inappropriate moments, to the point where he literally chokes himself from laughter. This only further drives Arthur’s pain with dealing with his mental illness– people constantly assuming that he’s laughing AT them when he simply cannot help it.
This condition seems to be triggered due to stress or sudden feelings of anger:
- The woman berating him on the bus for “bothering” her child
- Reggie making rude jokes toward Gary
- The businessmen harassing the woman on the subway
- His first attempt at stand-up
- Thomas calling Arthur’s mother ‘delusional’
The transformation from Arthur into Joker was a slow and methodical process. Arthur began to act out. He began to mouth off. He began to stand up for himself because “he had nothing left to lose”. He was tired of the system kicking him while he was down.
He took control of his life in the only way he knew how, by retaliating with the same violence and hatred the world was giving him.
In the beginning, Arthur doesn’t hurt anybody. He couldn’t cross that line. He didn’t think he had it in him.
However, during the subway incident, he hurts those that attack him first, killing the two businessmen out of self-defense and hunting the final one down, giving him his first taste of real power. Of control.
After these killings, Arthur begins to kill those he feels have wronged him or deserves it. Randall for making him lose his job. His mother for allowing his abuse and subsequent trauma that caused his laughing disorder. Murray for mocking him on live television and inviting him to tease him further.
Despite the drastic change, Joker is not a separate personality to Arthur. To me, Joker represents the urges that Arthur’s been fighting back.
Joker IS Arthur.
Joker is Arthur’s way to retaliate against the system, against those who wronged him.
The stairs that led Arthur back to his apartment that’s used throughout the movie represented his sanity. Each time he walked up the stairs, sticking to what society expected of him, he was defeated. Depressed. Unable to fight back.
In the final act where he becomes Joker, he’s dancing down the stairs, descending into madness. He’s happy. He’s confident. He finally feels freed from what society forced him to be.
He’s finally able to see the comedy in the tragedy of his life.

Women of all ages are more likely to survive in times of crisis.
A study of the last 250 years shows that women have longer life spans during famine or disease epidemics, and female survival rates are especially higher during infancy.

LGBTQ
LGBTQ is a community of people who refer themselves to as lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders. LGBTQ members face constant issues of being unaccepted by people with traditional sexual orientation. As a result, one of their main priorities is to achieve equality in the modern society.
The discrimination of LGBTQ representatives is a serious concern especially when it comes to quality pursuing. For those individuals who consider themselves homosexual or still have to understand and accept their untraditional sexual orientation, social discrimination is their major fear that should be overcome no matter what. Nowadays, open gays or lesbians receive unfriendly stares or even negative remarks regarding their sexual orientation.
LGBTQ community faces with discrimination on a daily basis, which proves that equality has not been reached yet. However, there are many positive signs for LGBTQ representatives. The topic of equality continues to progress. Few centuries ago, it was absolutely acceptable to marry your family member.

Some people use to drink alcohol just to forget their problems in life to have fun in theirselves. Alcohol is the first easy to take whenever we have problems or even if we are tired or stress.
Teenager nowadays they get drunk just because of break ups and small problems. They used to do it it’s because they want to erase a little bit amount of pain.
Though alcohol can help us in our problems, we should take good care to ourselves. Alcohol is not the only solution, we have our family to share of. Alcohol is dangerous that we cannot control for sure.
Gadgets or Textbooks?
Gadgets or Textbooks? These are both options that are commonly asked by many. We all know that both of these have advantages and disadvantages in any way. In fact, people tend to choose more on gadgets rather than textbooks. We all know that teenagers focus more on visualizing, not reading because we find texts as boring, yet images as fun. Textbooks are useful, especially for finding informations yet gadgets are useful too since gadgets can provide more things than what textbooks can only give. But, the thing about gadgets here is that people tend to abuse the usage of gadgets. People tend to use gadgets for entertainment that seem unuseful for a student and a teenager. I’m not saying that it’s bad to use gadgets, but we really need to have a fair use between gadgets and textbooks. So to sum it all up, we may not find textbooks interesting as a teenager who admires visuals and graphics, but at least we should use our gadgets efficiently in a good way because gadgets might lead us to addiction which may cause a new chain social issues. We should also learn how to value textbooks because our parents graduated before google was invented, and textbooks are a big help especially when there is no internet connection, and if you need deeper informations that cannot be found on the internet.
