You guys do realise that the concept of schooling has been around as far back as ancient Greece right? Maybe even prior to that?  The idea of teaching the younger generation skills and knowledge that will benefit them when they’re adults and help to form them into society is not an Industrial Era concept. 

No but our current system and way of doing so are entirely an invention of the industrial era. And they suck

Public school is an odd place to be - I was taught and graduated in the public school system and yeah, there are definitely aspects of public schooling I think are problematic (so much so that it ended up being a large part of the reason why I decided to study to become a teacher in the first place). Most of my peers struggled with the format and even now are finding it hard to apply content we learnt into the few career options that are actually available.  I posted pretty prematurely the other day and after discussing it with a few people I understand more about what the OG post was referring too now, so that’s totally my bad. I’m glad that more modern schools are appearing nowadays that are born from curriculum that are based on developing relevant problem-solving skills rather than forcing students to behave certain ways for careers that are quickly becoming outdated.

Ohhhhhhh. Well comparing public school systems to child labour seems a bit intense.
