Now  this  is  a  mindset  he's  familiar  with.  The  world  does  not  stop  moving  even  when  they  rest,  and  with  new  issues  popping  up  seemingly  every  hour,  it  was  as  though  several  people  simply  pushed  sleep  to  the  back  burner  so  more  work  could  be  done.  Byakuya  is  no  stranger  to  staying  up  for  days  at  a  time,  only  resting  when  his  body  made  the  choice  for  him  against  his  will,  and  it  seemed  Mikan  could  fall  into  the  same  trap  just  as  easily.  But  luckily,  this  isn't  about  him,  so  he  can  be  as  hypocritical  as  he  wants.

"  That’s  a  stupid  thought  to  have.  Your  end  result  will  be  sloppy  if  you  stay  awake  just  to  work.  "  He  looms  over  her  and  the  project  as  he  speaks,  the  frown  on  his  lips  serving  as  the  proof  that  he  isn’t  the  least  bit  pleased  with  the  situation.

"  You'll  only  make  a  nuisance  of  yourself  if  you  stay  awake,  and  I  don’t  feel  like  putting  up  with  it.  Go  to  sleep.  Even  an  hour  is  better  than  nothing.  "

First things first, he’s sensitive to cold temperatures and that’s why he tries to wear long sleeves/high collar shirts or basically all kinds of clothes that cover most of his body. But, along with that, I like to think his execution had him freezing to death not just for the literal connection, but also the metaphorical one. He’s very cold to other people even when it’s often undeserved, so for him to be on the other end of the cold, both literally and figuratively, in a way that literally would have killed him, is important.

Second, the fact that the execution was called “Human Disqualification” makes me think the comments about how his smile was inhuman or how he was just unusually frightening at times was supposed to foreshadow his execution. Adding onto that, time and time again he says and does things which implies he thinks he’s just that high above the others that he simply isn’t human. But then his execution would have involved him getting pummeled with stones and then freezing to death, like he’s nothing but an animal or a monster, which is just the opposite end of the inhuman scale.

"  I'm  fine.  "  The  reply  comes  out  as  a  nasty  hiss,  though  the  other  is  lucky  he's  even  getting  a  response.  Byakuya  shouldn't  have  said  anything  to  begin  with.  The  last  thing  he  wants  to  do  is  make  people  think  they're  free  to  talk  to  him  whenever  they  please.  That's  a  privilege  he  lets  very  few  people  have,  and  this  obnoxious  redhead  is  not  one  of  them.  Especially  since  he  also  had  the  nerve  to  acknowledge  that  Byakuya  messed  up.
