“Like I expect you to be a rational, reasonable grown up capable of saying when something upsets her, rather than running away from it all only to try and make it up to me by writing some letter later?” Ted scoffed, shaking his head. He felt so tired, and not for the first time wondered how he managed to keep going like this. “Then I don’t have much else to say, Dromeda.” Which was probably what she wanted. For him to just shut up.

“At least I say something after.” Andromeda said after a long moment. It wasn’t an attack, just a statement--soft with the sort of nauseous undercurrent of something long dismissed bubbling up. “I run away but I write it down later. I make sure you know you matter. Every day. I write it down every day.”
She didn’t come from a family who did that sort of thing--it was better not to express this base of neediness, this pile of honest affection. She had thought there wasn’t much to give up from home. She hadn’t thought this flat would remind her so much of it. “I suppose,” She said very slowly and kept her eyes towards the windowsill. “You’ve been telling me what you really feel everyday?”
It felt like criticism. She was trying to do better, or figure out how to do things which did not come naturally--but it hurt. It was exhausting. She never felt as though she even brushed success--and Ted always knew.
