“I know. You’re right. I just…can’t help but feel like she’s the one. If I can get sober for her, I can marry her. I have to wait, I know. Because she’s still so young. “

“Even if she is the one, you can’t propose after two months. You wanna take further steps with her? Move her in officially. But you are in no way, shape, or form ready for marriage.”

“Don’t laugh, but..I think I want to marry Crosby. I don’t know when. But I think I want to marry her. And y’know, have kids. And do the whole….thing. “

Davie listened intently, picking at her bottom lip as she kept her gaze on the arm of the couch. However, when Arlo stopped speaking, she looked up, lifting her brows. “You haven’t been together that long, Arlo.”

“Okay. Fine. Okay. We’ll talk about me”

“Giving me attitude won’t get you anywhere, so I suggest you start fucking talking.”

Arlo held his hands up in defense “I wanted to talk to you. And it’s not my fault for thinking something might be wrong with you. Especially when I’ve recieved an obnoxious text every year for several years from you on my birthday and I didn’t receive one at any point today. I’m allowed to think something is wrong. And I’m here to talk to you about something that has to do with her. But I clearly picked a bad night.”

The woman let out a heavy sigh, her green eyes rolling up for a short moment. “I don’t want to fucking talk about me, Arlo. I don’t want you assuming that you know me well enough to know when shit happens to me. If you want to talk about Crosby, I’ll talk about Crosby. But I’m not going to sit here and talk about my fucking self with you.”

Arlo easily pet the cat as his settled itself into his lap. “it doesn’t, Davie. But I know you well enough to know when holing up in your apartment isn’t just because you found a new netflix show to binge.”

“Why are you even here, Arlo? Why do you feel the need to burst into my apartment unannounced and scrutinize my nightly activities? I’m not out and about all the fucking time. I’m capable of staying inside for once. Besides, shouldn’t you be at home with Crosby?”

One look at Davie and Arlo knew she wasn’t in her best state, and it didn’t take long to guess why even if he hadn’t been told. And though he came here on important business, he figured it could wait until he made sure his friend was of the mindset to want to hear it. He entered the apartment and moved to the couch easily. “I wanted to talk to you. We haven’t talked in a long time. What’s up with you? Is it what I think? Do I need to fight someone?”

An annoyed expression colored Davie’s features as Arlo let himself in. However, the cat curled up in his lap as soon as he had sat down, and she wasn’t about to move her from her comfortable state. “I didn’t realize relaxing in my apartment past eleven pm constituted something being wrong.”

Arlo had been meaning to talk with Davie for a while, but just hadn’t gotten around to being able to sit down and have a real, face to face conversation with the friend in a while. So now, nervously biting on his lip and a hand deep in his pocket, the other hand rose to knock on her door. “This isn’t the Jehovah’s witness, please answer the door!”

Ever since Harry had split, Davinia hadn’t left her place much. She mostly sat on the couch with the cat, glasses perched on her nose and her remote in hand. But the moment she heard Arlo’s voice, the woman rolled her eyes and stood, pulling both sides of her robe in closer to her body as she made her way over and opened the door. “What do you want?”
