The surprise on his face is expected, but the silence still feels heavy between them as Teagan watches Dean try and come up with words in response.
“I ‘think’ like I took a test at the OBGYN earlier today,” Teagan responds, just a bit defensive. It’s not like she was a teenage girl anymore. Why would a forty-eight year old puke up a whole bunch and assume they were pregnant of all things? She opens her mouth to speak these thoughts when she is interrupted by a chuckle. Dean’s words raise a few different reactions in her chest. One, annoyance at how nonchalantly he was reacting to this news (but then again, he had many a pregnancy scares in his life time, while she only really had the one), but also a bloom of affection and a tiny bit of the schoolgirl giddiness he always seemed to bring out in her. So instead she closes her mouth and smirks. “I don’t know how else I thought you were going to react, Mr. Ex-womanizer.” Her smile deepens as she watches his warm fingers wrap around her hands. “I’m… Really just as shocked as you are,” she responds, unclasping her fingers to hold his hands between hers. “But as I was saying, I hadn’t gotten my period in two weeks or so, and being 'old and dying’ forty-eight year old lady I am, I thought I was maybe starting menopause.” She leans back into her chair, thinking back to her appointment earlier today. “I mean, it’s a little early for menopause, but definitely closer to menopause than…” she gestures at her now apparently pregnant belly. “I mean what the fuck, right?”
"Oh!" Dean's demeanor changes a bit hearing that Teagan knows for certain that she's pregnant. He becomes more resolute and less casual. Not tense, simply ready to be a bit more responsible. He laughs though when he's teased and tells her, "It's not that. It's just- I'm just not in a place in my life anymore where hearing that kind of news scares me anymore. I have the easier job in the scenario anyway but...the possibility of a small human that I'm responsible for doesn't trigger a fight or flight response the way it used to and I guess I'm grateful for that. Especially if I'm responsible for that small human with you? No chance, I know it'll be fine. Sure I have one foot in the grave already but...luckily, we have a small army of older children so if we entertain parenthood our kid would be profoundly looked after." Dean is only semi-aware of his own rambling, his planning, and acceptance of what isn't definite between them yet. He had told himself a moment ago that he wasn't going to make any assumptions or put any pressure on Teagan if this wasn't what she wanted but he can't help his own obvious preference on the matter.
"Is what the fuck your official stance on this whole matter?" he asks playfully, the corners of his eyes crinkling as they do. He gives her hands a gentle squeeze with his words, maintaining eye contact so she knows that above all, he's supportive of her.
