We both have war inside of us. Sometimes it keeps us alive. Sometimes it threatens to destroy us...
Veronica Roth, Insurgent.
... The choice, is ours.
“Just the ones I steal from,” he grinned, quite uninterested in sharing anything more than that. Augustine was his problem, no one else’s. Then of course there was also the run-in with blondie and that pretty little thief and…well, Leone found it easier to count his friends than his enemies.
“Everyone.” By which he meant Mary-Jane. “Plus, a social life kind of requires the social part. Y’know, exchanging words not bullets, that sort of thing. So call it a good guess on my part.” Not that Leone was much of an expert on the social part of a social life either, but he certainly spent more time outside of gang business than Delilah, that much he knew for sure.
Delilah’s brows knit together as she scrutinized him, trying to determine whether he was speaking in self-deprecating sarcasm, or whether he’d actually managed to steal anything off a Revelations’ member. She found it too hard to believe the latter. They were dumb, certainly - her last encounter with Glenn had only confirmed that fact - but they couldn’t be that dumb.
“Some people respond to theft by chopping off hands at the wrist. If you’re going to risk it, you better go after some worthwhile shit.“ She pointed out, remembering his paltry aim a few weeks back, when he’d been practicing with his left hand. It certainly beat no hands at all - even for Leone.
The assassin barely suppressed an eyeroll at his follow-up comments. “Why the interest in my social life? Are you extending an offer, Katniss?” She questioned, eyes fixed on him, the corners of her mouth aimed just short of a sneer. - That would put an end to the topic, she was certain.

YOU STARTED THE CHAIN ON MIKAELA XD with sending me memes I didn’t reblog. And then you come here. Totally shameless.
“No, I’m not.” She retorted. “Why, do you care if I’m insulted or not? And again, that is your truth. I fucked up because I crossed the line, not because I don’t know how to do my job.“ Jane broke her gaze away from Delilah but it didn’t take her long to bring it back. “Why now!” She repeated in disbelief. “Because I made a fatal mistake, that’s why. I realize that can’t happen, ever again. And why you?” Her voice was low. “Because Imogen is gone.”
“Did you have fun at the Marriott?”
Although she listened to Jane’s self-defense, the assassin remained as skeptical and unconvinced as usual. The way she saw it, Jane had been shaken up at best - likely a result of Raphael’s normally colourful threats - but her inspiration would dwindle away as quickly as a bad fashion trend.
She scoffed when Jane pointed out that Imogen was not around to help her train. “There are others.” It was also a self-serving motive; because as much as she wanted to see the (likely comedic) outcome of Jane’s determination, she didn’t exactly feel hard-pressed to help the girl, even for a day of shock-treatment in the training room. But rather than laugh the notion off, Delilah mulled it over silently in her mind; wondering whether she could profit in any way from such an arrangement. Doubtful.
In the meantime, she lent an ear to Jane’s question, lips tilting up into a faint smile. Had she had fun at the Marriott? - Hardly. A chance to get Catherine under her wing had flown out the window when things had gone to hell. Add to that the fact that she’d spent the better part of the evening guarding a heavily pregnant and gruesomely injured Ava, and ‘fun’ was about the last word she’d use to describe the night. But Delilah nodded anyway.
“Of course. Can’t deny it was exciting.” The assassin commented, eyes fixed on the blonde. She knew what they whispered about her; the image of a brutal woman they painted - always a new theory as to why she’d joined the gang. Some new the truth (unfortunately, and no thanks to Ava’s big mouth), but the rest had only their wild theories. ‘For fun’, was the common answer, as if she’d she’d be motivated by something so moronic... But the assumption was useful in that it made them avoid her. And peace was hard to come by in a gang. So why not perpetuate the image?

“Don’t think they’d let me join,” he lamented, “Pretty sure I’ve pissed off slightly more of them than I have of you lot. Impressive, I know.”
“So you suddenly get a social life, D? Or just a boring sleep schedule?” he asked, a roundabout way of saying he hadn’t seen her in the training room at three in the morning lately.
“Who’ve you pissed off from their lot?” She asked with a scoff. Despite its delivery, the assassin was genuinely curious. Maybe she’d be able to use Leone as bait in a mission one day, who knew?
“Who said I don’t have a social life?” She added plainly, mind travelling to the home-visit she’d paid Natasha a week prior. - That counted in her book.
Jane rolled her eyes right back at Delilah. “It’s far from professional. As I’ve already said, if you care about the team, do something about it. Constructive criticism, for example, is welcomed, saying the word incompetence over and over again does no-thing. Insulting people like we’re in the third grade, does absolutely nothing.” Jane took a step back, to lean her hip against the counter. “What I’m doing—” She sighed. “I don’t expect it to be enough, I don’t think I’ll ever be enough but I’ll say it once again: I’m trying. To be civil. Not to threaten people I have to work with. If you put me through training, yes, my whole body would hurt and I’d be close, so close to giving up. But I’d survive and I’d come back the other day. And the day after.” She straightened up. “I’m good at what I do but the things I don’t know… You see, the last time I fucked up, it was because I was tired of waiting and took the iniciative. It’s obvious that I need help in that area. So yes, I do. I still want to train.”
Of course the witch would feed on her misery— which she managed to smell because it radiated from her body. As much as Jane tried to mask it, keeping control of her whole body was hard. The woman assumed that was the case because the event had left scars all over it, physical and emotional. “Because the politicians want something to suck more than they do?” She remarked dryly, arching an eyebrow at Delilah. “Didn’t realize you were paying attention to what I was wearing.”
Delilah watched the woman carefully as she spoke, her own interest hidden behind cool grey eyes and a careless expression. “Are you insulted?” She mused aloud, “-I hardly see why one should be insulted by the truth.”
The assassin made a face when Jane painted a picture of a training session - one that seemed far too optimistic to her. Admittedly, she was also taken aback by Jane’s apparent willingness to train with someone she disliked by all admission. Then again, it was likely just a facade; an over-the-top claim to get her off her case, Delilah thought suspiciously. “You’ve never seemed all-too-eager to pick up a gun or get physical so why now? Why me?”
“I’m an assassin, being observant is part of the resumé.” Delilah replied nonchalantly when Jane admitted her surprise that she’d noticed her dress. It wasn’t entirely true; after-all, the young woman’s white gown had been hard to miss in all its elegant glory, no matter who was looking.
