all right, i've got a car outside, but it's going to be a bit cramped.

“I’m not- I swear it’s alright please calm down!” She coos while stepping slightly closer.

“Angel this kid is pathetic! He looks like he might wet himself- just kill him” Jack gestures to him while whipping a pretend tear from his eye. Angel shakes her head to Ben giving him a worried look.

Pathetic  ?  Yes?  Deaf?  No.  He  scowls  at  Jack  but  doesn't  have  much  of  the  courage  or  initiative  to  tell  him  to  fuck  off  just  yet.  He  doesn't  know  him  and  he  looks  pretty  dangerous.  This  whole  place  was  dangerous.  Before  Ben  and  his  friends  were  kidnapped  by  bandits  he  had  at  least  been  confident  enough  to  look  a  stranger  in  the  eye. The girl his age is claiming not to have interest in harming him while the holographic man is threatening him. Mixed messages sending him spiraling into hysteria.

It  had  been  such  a  mess.

He  lifts  up  his  trombone  which  was  given  to  him  by  his  Grandfather,  a  trombone  that  can  play  music  but  also  had  a  strange  function  which  converted  it  into  a  weapon.  The  ammo  wasn't  very  dangerous,  just  enough  to  distract  any  bandit  or  thief  that  would  try  and  rob  him  on  Pandora.  It  was  capable  of  playing  a  note  that  booms  so  loudly  it'll  knock  someone  off  of  their  feet  so  he  can  run.  He  doesn't  use  it.  Not  yet.  He's  too  frozen  in  fear.

          what if you had no soul ; what if you had no hope?

That's what they should be doing, Daryl thinks to himself, but -

But he knows the kid is scared. He knows he's panicking, and he clearly doesn't know how to deal with it. And Daryl, he figures, is probably not who he'd choose to have there to calm him down, but he's all he's got, so the least he could do is at least try.

Ben appreciates that Daryl didn't just leave it point blank. It needed to be heard, if for no other reason that for him to take his mind off of the panic he was feeling. Also it helped him feel less alone.

The teen himself could certainly do with learning how to handle his nerves, they usually just prompted him to make mistake after mistake after mistake. Which has left him widely unpopular with a group before, even a detriment to one. Not that he's ever going to disclose that to Daryl...he's far too ashamed.

Daryl makes the point crystal clear, and Ben cannot argue by that logic. He could either panic or try and do something to avoid what he fears by any mean necessary, which he was good at but there's no longer any option to run so he's just going to have to suck it up and focus.

He nods to the latter survivor, showing that he was more than understood.
