I need to impress upon anyone reading this that it isn't just not getting a house. It's that making an offer on a house is generally a no-takesbacksies ordeal, which means every time you even attempt to buy one you have to put yourself in the headspace of committing to a major life upheaval and all the work that's going to go with it. You need to be mentally prepared to take on hundreds of thousands of dollars of debt as well as any additional costs for maintenance and fixes. You've gotta be ready for all that just to ask nicely for them to consider letting you buy the house, then if you don't get it you have to snap back to normal and start the whole process over again.
