This man is right by your side the entire time. You go where he goes and vice versa so you don’t accidentally get lost.

He warns you about the recoil / kickback of the rifle. Standing with a hand on your back so he can safely catch you if you slip or fall.

He teaches you how to be quiet in the woods so as to not scare the game. You’re with him, learning the signs of when they’re getting closer, when they’re retreating, when they’re scared.

You realize that it’s a lot more of a waiting game than you thought. Getting bored and hungry easily.

Evan pulls out and hands you the bag of trail mix he brought, while he snacks on one half of the pb sandwich he brought.

He’s teaching you how to hold it so it doesn’t get uncomfortable, especially after long periods of time with it sitting on your shoulders.

When you get back home, Evan teaches you how to properly load the gun. How to take it apart, and clean it properly. How to store it and where so you know where it’s at if you ever need it when he’s not home.

Afterwards, you’re both sitting on that old rickety porch swing he has. Your head in his lap, it smells like rain, mud, gunpowder, and that unmistakable scent of him.

He’s got ‘Buried Alive’ by Motörhead playing inside the house. Muffled by the walls, but you can still faintly hear it.
