Happy Valentines to @nxttime!

Happy Valentineâs day! I hope you like it!
Trigger warning: mention of blood (doesnât get too gory), and much angst!
Y/n looked around sitting in her chair, waiting for her boyfriend Jamie, she sighed knowing heâd be late once again. She wondered why he bothered if heâd be sleeping through class, only to later âbegâ her for the notes she took.
âWhy is he always late? Whatâs he doing? I doubt sleeping since he wouldnât be as tired when he got to class. Think Y/n.â
The class door opening interrupted her train of thought as Jaime Reyes himself hurried in, the bags under his eyes visible on his face as he apologized for being late and took his seat behind Y/n. He pulled out his textbook, propping it up, and resting his head on his crossed arms. Y/n furrowed her brows and took notes and listened to the professor. Before she realized the class was dismissed. She gathered her things and got up to stand over Jaime. She shook her head shaking his arm. Jaime woke with a start groaning and running a hand through his hair getting up and quickly leaving the room. Y/n clenched her fists as she sped walked after him, grabbing the sleeve of his hoodie,
âWhatâs up with you lately? Iâm worried about youâ
Jaime looked at her, startled at her sudden questioning,
âIâm alright Y/n just some late night gaming session with Pedro thatâve went on too long. If somethingâs wrong iâll tell youâ
âIf nothingâs wrong then can we please go out? Itâs Valentineâs day for crying out loud! It doesnât have to be like that night. We donât have to do anything special but please. I miss you Jaimeâ Y/n pleaded surprising Jaime and herself with her boldness. Jaime looked behind him muttering to himself harshly,
âJaime?â Y/n reached for his shoulder slowly
âNO!â Jaime yelled slapping her hand away. He looked back to Y/n, shock and sadness in her eyes, as he caught his breath he noticed those still in the halls stared wide eyed at his outburst. He put his hood up and ran out of the building without another word. Y/n looked down at the small red mark on her hand where he had hit her and rubbed her thumb over it deciding right then and there sheâd find out what he was hiding from her.
~~~
Y/n tightened the drawstrings on her favorite oversized F/c hoodie pushing her hands deep into its pockets. She watched Jaimeâs window intently waiting for any light from a Tv or anything to quell her fears as well as her suspicions. She moved herself carefully as to not make any noise. She had gotten lucky when she fell off the chain link fence to the backyard. She wasnât going to risk making any unnecessary noise. She rubbed her arms underneath her hoodie, shivering.
âYouâre being creepy Y/n. Go home and go to bed. One of you has to be alive tomorrowâ she muttered to herself looking around nervously. She looked at her phone looking at the time. A bright 1:52 glared at her. She turned putting her phone in her pocket as she heard a strange thud. She turned back around, hesitantly she followed the noise to the side of the house. A dark form standing there seemingly struggling with nothing. She walked closer to the figure, her eyes adjusting to the darkness once again. She clenched the pocket knife Jaime had given her that night. The figure held itâs head in its hands before looking up. Y/n froze and felt her jaw drop as something peeled away from itâs head to reveal Jaime. Y/n stepped back tripping over her own feet, falling to the ground. Jaime looked over, his head suddenly being consumed once again by what he was wearing. As the figure walked closer Y/n scooted back. It stepped into the moonlight and Y/n finally saw itâs big red eyes.
âJaime?â Y/n breathed out her hands trembling as she got up keeping her distance.
Y/n stared at him dumbfounded as his arm shifted into what looked like a canon.
âY/n run! Scarab! NO!â Jaime screamed as the canon charged its beam quickly firing. Jaime pulled his arm up grazing Y/nâs arm. Jaime looked down at her, tears streaming down her face and blood coming from her fresh wound as she slowly lost consciousness He stepped back and panicked as he saw lights come on from inside the house. He picked up Y/n and flew to the nearest hospital. He set her down in front of the building gently. He caught the attention of an EMT getting out an ambulance before flying off into the night. His fists clenching as anger ran through him and the growing pit in his stomach made him feel sick. He knew he could never face her again or at least not without an explanation. He scolded the scarab on his way to the mountain, silently wishing his dearest Y/n a late happy Valentineâs and farewell for now.
Unexpected Valentine's
From @writing-slothÂ
to @thisonesawoozy
It's a Damian Wayne x reader pure fluff and romantic shit :)
When you walked in your office that Thursday morning the last thing you expected to find was flowers. Sure, it was Valentineâs Day but still, it came as quite a surprise. There was a card resting between the pink peonies that said simply:
-from Damian
That was even a bigger surprise. The recent events in your life were now shown in a different light. The younger Wayne had come to your veterinary for the first time a few months before. Needless to say, you too hit it off nicely by bonding over your love for animals. Since then each and every one of his pets had been brought to you. Damianâs visits were full with smiles from both, and maybe some stuttering and maybe some flirting. He had even invited you to a fund-raiser for animals in danger of extinction and abused farm animals. You had an amazing time chatting with some colleagues, meeting new ones, dancing with Damian, talking with Damian, being escorted home at the end of the night by Damian.
Damn. Maybe you had been missing the signs. You knew you had a crush on him, but that he returned the feeling? That was something you didnât expect.
As you were smiling like an idiot, your secretary knocked on the open door.
âHey, JC, your first patient is here,â Liz said, smiling almost as much as you. âI see you found the flowers. Who sent them?â
âDamian Wayne,â you answered softly.
Lizâs eyes opened wide and all she did was exclaim, âFuck! About time, donât you think?â
âWhat do you mean âabout timeâ?â
âHeâs been flirting with you from the moment he entered that door and your oblivious ass couldnât tell,â your friend laughed and went away.
All day you kept thinking about Damian and the flowers. You facepalmed yourself for not realizing sooner and not doing something about it.
Soon it was time to close so you grabbed your things and were locking the front door when a shadow of a man appeared. You froze. Couldnât crime just chill for one fucking day in this godless city? No. It had to ruin the day you were enjoying so much.
You turned around slowly, waiting for some yelling or even a punch but you only found a nervous Damian Wayne.
âGood evening, JC,â he greeted you with a smile. âSorry I scared you.â
âH-hi. Itâs okay. Iâm just glad Iâm not being robbed.â
He chuckled. âI came to ask you out to dinner,â Damian said. He suddenly opened his eyes wide, nervously adding, âif you want.â
You smiled and accepted happily. You both agreed he would pick you up at 8 so you could get ready.
At the restaurant, you could only stand in awe. It was dimly lit by candles hanging from the roof and the impeccably white tablecloths were decorated with rose petals. There was a jazz band playing romantic tunes on the other side of the room.
âItâs beautiful,â you sighted. You were smiling like crazy.
Damian looked down at your form and smiled. He didnât say but he thought you were more beautiful; with that short black dress that hung just right to show your back but not enough as to keep him wanting for more, with your hair up in a bun to show your neck, with that bright smile that illuminated the whole room. You were the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
Dinner went smoothly and both had an amazing time, laughing and talking.
You laughed. âSo it is true!â
âWell⌠not really,â he answered blushingly.
âYes, it is. You admitted. You canât go back.â
Damian laughed. âFine, fine. That rumor is true but the others are not. I swear.â
âWow. You actually adopted a cow!â Damian and you laughed again.
After that, you ate your dessert talking about your families. His brothers seemed pretty funny even though Damian didnât think so. It felt nice to talk to someone about everything and nothing. Simple. Clear. Pleasant.
When you were ready to go home the restaurant was almost closing. Most of the chairs were resting on the tables for the staff to clean the floor more easily. He paid and offered his hand to walk to the car. The drive home was silent and pleasant. Just the two listening to some music playing on the radio. But it was too short and so, quickly you found yourself at your door.
âI had a really nice time, Damian,â you said stepping closer to him.
âMe too,â he admitted. He leaned down and down until his lips were on yours. It was soft and nice and explosive. (You guys had some serious chemistry) His hands lowered to your waist and you circled his neck with yours. When you pulled from him both your lips drew wide sappy smiles.
âDo you want to come in?â you pointed at your front door behind you shyly.
âIâd love to,â he kissed you once more and let you go open the door.
Valentine's Day Gift
Tim woke up angry and confused. Angry because he told Jason not to let me fall asleep while he was on the phone with him. Confused because he was in his bed, and not his own study and something smelled really good. Tim sat up and put his mess of a hair into a small ponytail.
âWhat the..â he trailed off when he saw rose petals on his bed. Now he was really confused. His instincts were finally catch up to him, Bruce would be ashamed of the response time, and he heard movement in his kitchen. Tim climbed off his bed and stepped to his kitchen where he saw Jason, sans shirt and shoes. Jason was sipping from a spoon, tasting his own creation.
âAbout time you woke up baby bird.â He said and turned to look at Tim with a grin.
âJason, what the hell are you doing here and why did you let me fall asleep?â Tim crossed his arms, watching his boyfriend stalk over to him.
âWe were on the phone Tim when you feel asleep, Iâm the one that should be offended but it worked out perfectly because I could set my plan in motion.â Jason leaned down and pecked Timâs forehead. âIts valentineâs day and I wanted to be corny and pamper you.â He shrugged, looking away to hide his own insecurities. Tim wrapped his arms around Jasonâs waist and smiled. It wasnât like that didnât see each other almost every day but to have a day where it was just them, Tim could get behind that. Jason wanted and was going to show Tim that he deserves all the love Jason has to give. Somedays, well most days, Tim fell easily into his own dark thoughts of abandonment.
Jason stole one more kiss before going back to the food and make the bowls of soup. âWhatâs with the rose petals?â Tim sat at the table, eyes wandering down the muscles of his boyfriendâs back.
âOh yeah.â Jason said more to himself and grabbed a handful of extra rose petals and threw them at Tim. They flowed down on him and into face, causing Jason to laugh at Timâs deadpanned face. âOh come on Tim, itâs romantic.â Jason put his bowl of soup down in front of him.
âNow eat. I know you havenât been doing that properly since that drug case you took on.â Jason said, causing Tim to blush slightly at the reprimand. He maybe did neglect himself for a bit but what else was new. A moan left his mouth as he ate his food, his stomach feeling warm and happy to be eating real food. Jason sat across from him.
âI didnât have time to get candles but this is still nice, right?â And Tim had to agree. Having a dinner for the first time with Jason in like two weeks was nice. The dinner was quiet, but the quiet that was filled with mutual happiness and love. Love was literally in the air and Tim wanted to choke on it or run away. Jason must have been reading his mind because he reached across the table and held his hand, letting him know running away was not the solution.
After dinner, Jason led Tim back to his rose coated bed and laid down with him, reaching for the remote to put on the a background show. He knew Tim was going to fall asleep again soon and all he wanted was to hold his boyfriend and love him.
âThank you Jason, for taking care of meâŚlike alwaysâŚI love you.â Tim buried his head in Jasonâs chest and let himself be encompassed by those amazing arms.
âI love you Tim. Everyone does.â Jason whispered and lifted Timâs chin to give him a proper kiss on the lips. âI know it wasnât much but Happy Valentineâs Day Tim.â
Tim smiled against Jasonâs lips. âHappy Valentineâs day.â
Heart Shaped Chocolates
To: @shadowsndaisies
From: @angel-kissed-ginger
  It is hard to pinpoint the exact moment when you became more than âjust friends.â Since the fateful day when you met him at Nevermore Books, the days begin to blur together. You soon developed a crush on each other and as cheesy as it seems, his surprised you with a kiss on Valentineâs Day.
  So of course the news of his death felt like the universe had ripped out your heart. You couldnât count how many times you visited Wayne Manor and stole one of his hoodies. It wasnât until months later, you found out that Alfred kept track of your visits and continued to wash Jasonâs hoodies so they always smelled like him.
  It was on one of these âvisitsâ that you borrowed his favorite book and found a surprise that he had left for you. Tucked inside the tattered cover was a letter he had written, explaining his nightly activities as Robin. You were devastated that Bruce had lead Jason down the path to his death.
  But as months turned into years, you slowly began to find yourself willing to forgive and became closer to the family than before. Instead of gathering with the others to mourn his loss, you created a tradition of celebrating the years you spent together as friends. Every year, on Valentineâs Day, you would stop by the same mom ânâ pop shop to pick up the silliest heart-shaped box of chocolates you could find. You would then swing by the Manor to say hello to Alfred before grabbing a book off Jayâs shelf and going to read in his favorite spot.
A year agoâŚ
  âMiss Y/N how nice it is to see you again. If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know,â Alfred says in greeting as you hug him. You have always seen the older man as a grandfather and appreciate everything he has done for you.
  âThanks Alfred. But I think Iâm good for now,â you beam up at him as you show him the box of chocolates. This year you bought the one with âBee Mineâ in bubble letters with a smiling bee on it. He chuckles softly as you put the box back in your bag and head off to Jasonâs old room.
  You smile as you open the door and find it exactly the way he left it. Except for the fact that his hoodies have once again been washed and put away, so you could claim another one as yours for the day. Taking a couple of steps toward his bookshelf, you lightly run your fingers over the spines of all the stories you wish you could have discussed with him. Blinking the tears away, you leave his room and softly close the door behind you, before making your way outside.
  The tallest tree on the Wayne property greets you like an old friend as you sit beneath its leaves. The sun smiles down as you carefully open the chocolates and pull out this yearâs book. You find yourself holding your breath as you focus on the front cover. It is the book you meant to give him on his birthday, but never got the chance to. It was hard to read it without him, but you finally told yourself that this was the year.
  âWhy am I not surprised to find that He has yet another kid running around, getting into things their not supposed to?â a voice asked sarcastically as a young man drops to the ground on your left.
  âYouâre one to talk. I happen to know everyone who comes around here and I have never seen you before,â you reply as he bends down and steals one of the chocolates you were saving to give to Damien as you left. It was an unspoken rule between you two that he would leave you alone one day a year, and you would save one of the chocolates for him.
  âExcuse me. You were the one who came here and interrupted my nap with your commentary on whatever you are reading.â
  âWhatever,â you roll your eyes as you shove everything into your bag. You pull your feet underneath you to stand up, wanting nothing more to march away and keep this âboyâ from ruining your day. He laughs as you past him and you promise yourself that this will be the only time he gets his way.
  âWait⌠is that my hoodie?â he demands as his laughter dies. The words catch you off guard and you quickly turn to look back at him. âY/N?â he asks.   Before you know it, you slap his face as hard as you can and them pull him into the hug you have been longing for. His face is vaguely similar to the one that haunts your dreams. He is taller than you remember and his hair has a strange white streak in it. It is the way he smells that surprises you the most; cigarette smoke and gunpowder.
  âWhat was that for?â he asks as he pulls away from you. It wasnât the warmest âwelcome backâ he has received.
  âI thought that you were dead.â
  âYeah, well it obviously didnât stick,â he softly chuckles as he takes you in.
   âSo youâre admitting that you let me believe for years that you were dead. You owe me an explanation mister,â you demand as you pull him to the ground.
   âItâs a long story,â he drags out the words, as if he were hiding something that would change your feelings for him.
âDonât worry, I got time,â you wink at him as you pull out another heart-shaped box of chocolates.
NowâŚ
   This Valentineâs Day was the beginning of something new, and you have yet to decide if you really want to leave your old tradition behind. Sure, it is strange to have your best friend back after years of thinking they were dead. But Jay was working hard to prove to you that things havenât changed between you. Even when it seems like a dream between his âheroâ work and the fact that he will occasionally kill people.
   âHon, are you feeling well?â the owner of Nevermore Books asks, pulling you from your thoughts.
   âYeah Iâm good. Thanks again for wrapping this for me,â you smile as you hold up the gift wrapped in shiny red paper. The owner just shakes her head at you as you turn to leave the store.
   You still have to stop by the ma ânâ pa shop to pick up the heart-shaped chocolates before heading over to meet Jason. Even though it will definitely make you late, you take your time as you look over all the silly sayings and pick two of your favorites. Instead of heading to the Manor, this year you will spend the day with your best friend at one of the many safehouses he has around the city. As you leave the shop, you pull his leather jacket closer around you and you suddenly miss his large hoodies. You would never tell him, but you stole a couple of his old hoodies the last time you were at the Manor. It it silly to you to give up on the hoodies, just because he gave you one of his worn leather jackets to hold on to.
   The safehouse turns out to be a regular house on a quiet street miles outside of Gotham City proper. You are almost sure it is the wrong address, when Jay meets you at the door and pulls you into a tight hug. This is the thing that you would never understand; all his brothers claim that he is worse than a cactus, but when he is around you he becomes a giant teddy bear. Except for the few days when he thinks that he will do something to  hurting you, then he gets annoyingly overprotective.
   After eating the meal Jay had made, you curl up on the couch and pull the heart-shaped chocolates out of your bag. After a couple of minutes he joins you on the couch and you hand him the gift. He opens it to find the book that you were trying to read a year ago. After you explain that it was supposed to be a birthday gift and you had been waiting to read it until tonight, he opens it and starts reading it out loud. You lay your head against his shoulder and lean against him to get comfortable.
   You may not know where you stand between being just friends or a couple, but this Valentineâs Day is perfect and there is no place you would rather be.
Confessions
for Tina @nerdgurlbenerdy
from: @chi-townbatgirl
Summary: A certain speedster finally confesses his feelings on a special day.
F/F favorite flower, F/C favorite color, E/C eye color
âSo, you taking Oracle out for Valentineâs Day?â Kid Flash asked Nightwing as he landed another punch on one of the goons for the criminal overlord they were busy taking out.
âUghn,â Nightwing grunted, finishing off his goon. âOh yeah, got the whole night planned. What about you Kid? You have plans with anyone special?â He asked his friend.
Wally finished securing the last of his goons. âNah. Not this year.â
âReally? Hmm, thatâs surprising. I would have thought,â Dick was interrupted by the barrage of bullets firing out of the overlordâs gun.
âNow might not be the best time,â Wally pointed out as he quickly dismantled the gun and finished off the target while Dick radioed in that the mission was complete.
âOk. So, now that we arenât being shot at. You really arenât doing anything on Valentineâs Day? I thought for sure youâd be taking out y/n.â
Wally blushed furiously at the mention of y/n. âWhat? No, why? Weâre just friends man,â he stammered.
âJust friends. Right.â Dick rolled his eyes. âYouâve been head over heels for her a while now. Gotta make your move, dude. Tell her how you feel.â
âNo, Dick, itâs not like that. I mean, yeah sheâs, well sheâsâŚ.â
âAwesome, stunning, hilarious, the sweetest person ever, adorable. Your words. Donât tell me you arenât smitten,â Dick nudged his friend. âYou talk about her nonstop.â
âAlright, fine, so maybe, I have a crush.â Wally acquiesced.
âMaybe? Dude, youâre totally feeling the love.â
âItâs just, I donât know. Iâm not sure she feels the same way. Weâve known each other so long Iâm not sure she sees me that way. I donât wanna make things weird.â Wally finished changing out of his Kid Flash suit now that they had zetad back to the teamâs base.
âTrust me, she feels the same.â Dick patted his friendâs shoulder. âI can tell. When you two are together, I can see it.â
âThatâs not the only issue though, Dick. I mean, do you really think itâs fair? To bring her into all this? I mean, youâre dating Barb and she totally gets it cause sheâs part of the team too. But do you really think itâs fair bringing a civilian in? I donât want to put her in that kind of danger,â Wally trailed off.
âNow youâre just making excuses cause youâre scared to ask her out. Sheâs your best friend. Sheâs known about you being Kid Flash for months now, and she hasnât run yet. Take your chance. Take her somewhere nice for dinner, get her some roses, and then tell her how you feel.â
âNo. Not roses. Y/nâs more of a f/f type of girl. F/c ones.â Wally corrected.
âSee?â Dick asked, âsmitten.â
âYeah, yeah, I guess youâre right. Iâll ask her out.â He smiled thinking about you.
ââOf course Iâm right. Iâm your best friend. Itâs my job to be right,â Dick said, slapping Wally on the back. âNow, Iâve gotta get going. Iâve got a hot date to get ready for. And so do you.â
Meanwhile across town, you were sitting on your couch watching another Hallmark movie while attempting to drown your sorrows in a tub of your favorite flavor ice cream. You had hoped that this would be the year. The year you wouldnât be alone on the most romantic day of the year. You had hoped that your best friend, who youâd had a crush on for as long as youâd known him, and been fully in love with for at least a year now, would make a move. He was everything you looked for. Kind, smart, funny, cheerful, always there for you, sincere, good looking. He was the whole package. But apparently, he didnât feel the same way you did.
You thought maybe he just didnât realize you liked him, so you had been dropping hints for a while now. You two had been spending more and more time together over the past few months and had thought that he felt the same way. When heâd told you he was Kid Flash, you thought for sure he felt the same way. Your heart had lept at the hope that he might finally see you as more than a friend. Then fallen just as quickly. But instead, he had thanked you for being so understanding and âsuch a good friend.â âFriend.â That was the last word you wanted to hear from him. You had assured him when he told you that you would be there for him, always. No matter what.
So instead of wearing the f/c dress you had already picked out and eating a fancy dinner, you were wearing your coziest pajamas and eating ice cream and takeout. Oh well, you thought. It was his loss. If he couldnât see how great you were, you would find someone who did.
Your thoughts were suddenly interrupted by a loud banging. It sounded like someone knocking at the door. But it was already after 9 pm. Nobody would be at the door this late. You went back to watching your movie, taking another bite. A few seconds later you heard it again, muting the volume to be sure you heard right. Somebody was definitely at the door. Furrowing your brow, you called out as you headed toward the door. âWho is it? Iâll be right there!â
âY/n? Itâs me. Itâs Wally. I need to⌠talk to you.â He finished his sentence as you opened the door.
When you opened the door, there was your best friend, the man you had been in love with for so long, standing there with a bouquet of f/fs.
He was dressed in a black suit with a f/c tie. He shifted nervously on his feet, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand. âY/n Iâm sorry to come over so late and I know I should have called first but I just couldnât wait any longer and I just got done with a mission and Iâ He suddenly remembered the bouquet in his hands. âOh. Here. These are for you.â
You shook yourself out of the daze youâd been in since he showed up at your door. âOh. Thanks, Wally. Theyâre my favorite,â you said taking them out of his hand. You gestured toward the living room. âCome on in, Wally. I should probably put these in water.â
He followed you into the apartment. He had psyched himself up for this conversation on the way over, but now that he was standing here, in front of you with your beautiful e/c eyes, he was a wreck again. But there was no backing out now.
âSo, how did the mission go?â You called from the kitchen where you were busy placing the flowers into a vase.
 âOh, it was fine. We got the guy. But thatâs uh, thatâs not. Thatâs not what I wanted to talk to you about,â Wally swallowed nervously, making his way to the kitchen. âI should have told you a long time ago. Iâve known almost as soon as I met you. Your smile, the way your eyes sparkle when you talk about your favorite topics, the way you sort of dance in your seat when you donât think anyone is watching. The way your nose crinkles when youâre deep in thought. The way you always make time for everyone else, youâre so giving, even when it comes at your own expense. Youâre the most amazing woman I know.â
You stood at the kitchen sink with your back to Wally as he listed off all the things he loved about you. You couldnât look at him yet. You couldnât take the thought that this confession might not end the way you wanted it to. A silent tear fell down your cheek.
He continued. âYouâre the best friend I have. Youâve stood by me through everything. You didnât run when I told you about my other identity, and I should have known then. Youâre the one.â He moved to stand behind you, wrapping his arms around you and gently turning you to face him.
You still couldnât look him in the eye.
âYouâre the one, Y/N. I, I donât know why I didnât tell you sooner.â He tenderly tilted your head up so that you were looking into his gorgeous green eyes. âBut Iâve been in love with you ever since, well, for a while now. And I totally understand if you donât feel the same way, I mean, Iâm not perfect and I know I donât deserve you andâŚâ
You had stood there dumbfounded for a second when you heard the words youâd been waiting to hear for so long now. You had to be sure you heard right. âSay it again.â
âI donât deserve you, youâre too perfect, your my best friendâ Wally repeated.
âNo. Not that part. The other part.â You prompted.
âI love you?â
You smiled brightly at him, embracing him in a bear hug. âYes. That part. Wally West, do you know how long Iâve waited to hear you say that?
He breathed a sigh of relief as you seemed to confirm what Dick had told him. You loved him too. âSo, you? You feel, uh?â
If there was any doubt left in his mind that you felt the same way, you sent it all flying as you reached up on your tiptoes to pull Wally down to your level, planting a kiss. âDoes that answer your question, Wallman?â You smiled at him.
âHmm, I might need a little more clarification.â He winked, bringing you in for another more passionate kiss. âI love you, Y/N.â
âI love you too, Wally.â
The Fitted Sheet
    Happy Valentineâs Day to my lovely secret Valentineâs match @chi-townbatgirl
I hope you have a fabulous Valentineâs Day, Dana!
With love, Rynne @rynne311
 From the time you were a kid you always hated having to get the fitted sheet onto the bed.  It was always a nightmare and took far too long. Youâd get one corner set, move onto the next one and the first corner would come flying over to you.  You just couldnât win.
Now it was harder. Â It wasnât the twin sized bed you had at your parentsâ house anymore. Â You just moved in with Dick and now had a much larger bed to contend with. Â Dick was out getting some takeout since the whole process of moving zapped all motivation for cooking, and you wanted to get a jump on getting your bedroom together and cozy.
You were so focused on your battle with the sheet and  the bed, you never heard Dick come in. You were sprawled across the bed, trying and failing to keep the corner in place with your foot as you attempted to get the next one situated at the head of the bed.
âHey beautiful bedroom citizen, can I be of any assistance?â Dick offered as he watched you struggle to stretch and contort your body to reach all corners of the bed.
âAlmost got it,â you mumbled face first into the mattress. âJust a little further.â
Dick waited a moment before jumping in to help, burning this moment into his memory. Â Your stubbornness and independence were just some of the reasons he was so madly in love with you. Â You refused to give up, and just like him, didnât always want to ask for help, but that was why you two worked. Â You were always there to bolster the other with every problem, from seemingly dead end murder cases to a villainous fitted bed sheet.
He pulled the corners near your feet into place as you crawled to the head of the bed and secured the top corners. Â âI swear, I had it under control,â you lied. âBut thank you.â
You barely turned to face where Dick had been standing at the foot of the bed when he pounced and had you tackled into the mattress, tickling you mercilessly. Â You squirmed around, shrieking in laughter trying to get Dick to let up to no avail. It wasnât until you had a clear sight of his goofy grin that you were able to successfully attempt your escape. Â You reached your head up enough to catch his lips with yours, and any thoughts he had continuing to tickle you were gone.
Dick wrapped his arms around you and rolled until your positions were switched. Â You kissed him properly now that you didnât have to contend with the ticklish torture. Â You both were grinning like goofballs as you rested your head against his chest.
âI know this isnât the Valentineâs dinner you were expecting, but I got us some Chinese food for tonight,â he offered before kissing the top of your head.
âMoving on Valentineâs Day? No, thatâs not what I expected, but getting to spend the whole day with you is all I wanted,â you answered, pulling yourself closer into his chest. Â âI donât need a fancy dinner, I only need you to make it perfect. Câmon letâs go eat that dinner.â
You both moved to sit up on the bed before heading out into the kitchen, but you were stopped when all four corners of the fitted sheet popped out of place. Â You both started laughing as you grew more entangled in that wretched sheet. Every time you tried to roll free, it seemed to have a mind of its own, keeping you and Dick trapped. Â You wanted to be frustrated, but for the first time in your life, that fitted sheet finally did you some good and got you some quality, carefree time with the man you loved, and on the day of love no less.
warnings: ya typical jason todd warnings; itâs actually p mellow but I was snoopinâ on Belle a smidge and saw she liked angst, so I had to make it a lil angsty lmao
Another day, another horrendously boring shift at your grandmotherâs oddities shop.
You had blown the same piece of hair out of your face about fifty times, long giving up on trying to place it back properly. Leaned back in a rickety chair, feet propped on the counter, you couldnât believe your cousin had roped you into taking their shift on a festival day. Easy money, they had promised. No one will enter the shop, they swore.
They had been right. You wished they werenât; without the human interaction, you swore you were slowly, dreadfully, going insane.
Gaze wandering, you observed the wooden beams and shelves of your grandmotherâs shop, every nook and cranny crammed with knick knacks and trinkets, all different shapes and sizes and colors. Some to ward off evil, some to grant wishes, other to vanquish foes or make the owner wealthyâŚor so your grandmother claimed. Now in her high nineties, she still ran and managed the shop, selling to travelers and townspeople alike. Your Bibi ran the shop nine to five during the week, never quitting, and you and your cousin would pick up weekends to help. Bibi claimed everything in the shop was really, truly magical, and you always rolled your eyes behind her back when she sweet talked another customer into buying something. You always thought they just felt sorry for the old woman, but then again, you never saw a bad review on the shop. Only positives. It gave you pause, wondering if the stuff in here really was magical, before you would shake your head and go back to reading your book behind the counter.
The sunlight from outside glinted through a starcatcher, angled just right to shine on a bracelet on display in the glass case. Wincing at the sparkle glaring right in your face, you slammed your feet onto the ground as you jerked back, almost falling off the chair. Blinking, you felt for the offender and pulled it out of the case, observing it. It had to be new, or newer, or maybe you simply hadnât cared to notice, but it was the most beautiful colored bracelet you had ever seen, gleaming with gemstones swirling with embers that caught the afternoon sun. Mesmerized, you slipped it on, admiring it; maybe your grandmother would give it to you if you asked nicely.
The little bells over the door chimed a customer warning, and you brought your hands to your chest, sleeve falling over the pretty bracelet as you smiled and looked toward the entry. Three people, two men and one woman, entered. You didnât know the men, but the female with dark hair and long legs was a regular.Â
âZatanna!â You chirped, waving. âLovely to see you again!â
â(Y/N)? Youâre here! I thought your cousin was in today,â she hummed, smiling nonetheless. She came right over to the counter, men following her, the shorter one looking on in awe at everything while the one in the red hoodie lookedâŚwell, dead. He looked like a zombie walking, dark circles under his eyes and skin a pallid grey, hair peeking out from under his hood dry, one white streak visible. You couldnât help but stare, and he caught your gaze, glaring ferociously at you before scoffing and turning away. A chill went down your spine, and you remembered the baseball bat that Bibi kept behind the counter, thinking about grabbing it. The shorter male had caught the interaction and elbowed the other, smiling gently, apologetically at you. Zatanna called you again. â(Y/N)?â
âO-oh, yes! No, I mean, uhâŚIâm covering for them today,â you blundered out, refocusing on her. You could feel the manâs glare drilling into your head and you winced, trying to ignore it. âWhat can I get you today?â
âActually, I think I see it right there. Can I have that bracelet, please?â You looked down, noting that the bracelet you still had on your wrist had a matching sibling, opposite color scheme of the one still on your wrist. With haste, you pulled out the ring of gems, handing it to her, and she turned to the man in the red hood.
âI am not putting that on,â he growled, the hairs on the back of your neck prickling at the hostility. Zatanna was unfazed, pushing forward again, the man he was with putting a hand on his shoulder.
âJason, please,â he begged, voice low and strained. âThis could help.â
âIâm fine,â Jason growled out, a deadly warning. âOr I would be fine, if you would just leave me alone!â
âYouâre not fine,â the man spoke, arms crossing, speaking quickly but audibly, leaving you baffled by the exchange. âYesterday you nearly beat the Penguin to death; the day before that, you shoved Two Face off an interchange into oncoming traffic.â
âHe landed heads up, heâs fine,â Jason scoffed. The two had only glares for him, and you watched, confused, observing the exchange nervously. Glancing between the two, Jason sighed, resigned, anger evaporating off of him as he held out a wrist. âWhatever. Itâs not going to work. You said it needed a pair. I only see one.â
âOh! thatâs because I haveâŚitâŚâ your voice trailed off as Zatanna pushed the bracelet onto his wrist, and it was silent for a moment, before Jason blinked; his skin turned less gray, more blood in his cheeks, with clearer eyes and not as dark rings under his eyes. His posture straightened and he stretched, taller than before, licking his lips nervously as he looked at Zatanna, then at you, blue eyes crystal clear. You watched in awe, never having seen anything like it, before you felt your heart give a painful, hard beat, then another, your hand scrambling to clench at the fabric of your shirt as you stared at the counter top, patterns in the glass swirling into dark shapes and ominous figures.
Feelings of betrayal and loss flew across your mind, emotions that werenât yours; thoughts of death, of rising, of not being the same permeated your brain. So overwhelming, you couldnât imagine how Jason was dealing with all these thoughts all day and night, alone and cold, thoughts of the grave behind every emotion.
WaitâŚhow did you know Jasonâs feelings?
He was staring at you when you finally looked up, shaking and gulping. It was a mesmerizing stare, like a prisoner spotting his freedom for the first time, gates open and whole world calling him. Your soul ached for him, hurt for him, as he focused on you, your eyes tearing up. You didnât even know this man, but it felt like you did; he was in so much pain, feeling like no one cared for him, the only relief coming from solitude and fighting, day in and day out.
Then, Jason turned and sprinted out of the shop, your hand coming up to reach for him.
âHey, waitâ!â You tried, voice high and squeaking, but the door slammed shut, only the tingle of the bell above filling the dreadful space.
Zatanna swerved, grabbing your outstretched wrist, observing the bracelet you still had on your wrist. âOh, (Y/N). Why?â
âI thought it was just a bracelet?â you spluttered out, confused. It was just a trinket! âWhat is going on here, Zatanna? Who was that? And whatâŚwhat happened to him?â
She shared a look with her companion, and he shook his head, looking at you with a gentle smile. âIâm sorry, itâs not our place to tell you.â
âButâŚâ your voice faded, another feeling washing over you; Jason, you knew it was Jason by how the thoughts implied leather and smoke, red hoods and motorbikes, libraries with classics begging to be read. It caused the hairs on your arms to raise, as you realized it was fear you felt; fear that you had seen him, right through his hard, outer shell to the real thoughts he harbored, not so tough in reality. Scenes of a riverfront and a hard bench came to you, and your feet were moving before you could stop them, out the front door and apologizing to Zatanna, asking her to watch the shop as the bell sang above you.
You ran as fast as you could, the dark night encroaching and terrifying, huffing all the while, reaching the river in record time as you wheezed, attempting to get air back in your lungs. The sun was setting over the water and it glistened like the gems on your wrist, and as you flicked your eyes upwards, you caught sight of Jasonâs broad back, taught and tense, fists clenching and frustrated in his hoodie pocket. You knew he sensed you and he turned his head slightly, glaring at you.
âGo away,â he warbled out, voice unsteady. Biting your lip, you almost fled at the hostility, but another wave of feeling washed over you, giving you pause.
ââŚno,â you spoke, taking steps forward, standing behind him, not sitting. You gave him plenty of room, two feet of space between the both of you. A crow called overhead and you watched the gulls of the river take flight, drawing aimless patterns in the sky. Neither of you spoke; Jason antsy in his shoes, you giving him space, wondering just what had compelled you to find him.
It grew dark without the two of you speaking, an uneasy peace between you both. Jason took a deep breath, standing and turning from you, but not without some parting words. âWhy did you follow me?â
You honestly didnât know; something deep inside had willed you to him, and you had complied. Shrugging, you wrapped your arms around yourself, watching the outline of his back in the city lights.
âI thought⌠you needed me. So I came.â
Silence, cold and raw, but you knew it was fake; he was mulling over your words, absorbing them, before suddenly the door that had opened between your two worlds was screaming at you, howls of pain and anguish, and you sank onto the bench as your head pounded to a haunting drum. Jason threw you a tense glare over his shoulder, and you jerked back, hand to your temple as you grit your teeth, unsure again.
âI donât need anyone,â he spat, sneering at you; empty words, you knew as much as he tried to hide it. But your heart still sank, troubled, and maybe it was the shadows of the streetlights but you thought you saw him wince before turning around. âSo get lost. And tell my dumbass brother I wonât be coming home.â
Stunned, you watched him walk away, crowds parting for his bulk. You waited and stared until you could no longer see him, the crowd devouring him, and unsure of what to do, you simply returned back to the shop, dazed as the bell above rang out your arrival. Your grandmother was there, crooked and wise, looking at you thoughtfully. She snatched your wrist and observed the bracelet, tutting as she did.
She sat you down and began to explain, Zatanna not far behind, Jasonâs brother close. Your bracelet and Jasonâs were connected; two halves of the same whole, meant to be stabilizers for the other. Unknowingly, you had become Jasonâs anchor; a stabilizing person in his turbulent emotions, always and ever fickle. The bracelet you were wearing was meant for someone else, but it had accepted you as a host and latched on for good.
âSo Iâm likeâŚa sponge?â you asked, shook to the core. You did not sign up for this.
âMore like a siphon,â Zatanna explained, relating the mystic power to something more accurate. âJasonâŚwell, Jasonâs been through a lot. We wanted to try and alleviate some of the effects ofâŚrecent events, but not by using you. Weâre sorry, (Y/N).â
The sparkling of the bracelet had your attention as you absorbed it; they werenât lying, you knew that. Those feelings before, they hadnât been yours. You had never felt those emotions so strongly in your life. You just knew who that they belonged to Jason, and as you gnawed on your lip you gathered your thoughts, heart aching for him.
âBibi will get that thing off you, (Y/N),â you grandmother declared, waddling over to a shelf full of old papers and scrolls. She hummed as she perused the shelves, snapping her fingers when she found the one she was looking for, dragging it out from under a stack of books that clattered to the ground. She kicked them to the side before waddling back over, taking your wrist in her hands. âLet Bibi see, child.â
She took your wrist gently, before you blinked and snatched it close, hand covering the bracelet, guarding it. Your grandmother looked up, observing you.Â
âNo!â you rushed, stunned at your words but believing them to be the utmost truth of your spirit. A shaky breath, and you gathered yourself, twisting the bracelet nervously on your wrist. Zatanna and Jasonâs brother looked on from behind. âWill thisâŚ.if I leave it on, will it help him? Help Jason?â
âHm,â your grandmother pondered. âWell, certainly. But, you wish to proceed? It will not be pleasant, child.â
âYes.â The conviction in your voice was strong. âIâm positive. Let me help him.â
You left the bracelet on. For months, Jason Todd stayed completely clear of you; you never saw him, but you could feel him. Your grandmother advised that whenever you sensed him becoming unbound, to try and counteract the emotions with your own. It was hard; Jasonâs loneliness was overpowering, his rage blinding, his distrust immense. But did you try; many days the emotions would strike suddenly and ferociously, and it drained you to fight them with positive effects, but you never complained. Zatanna and Jasonâs brother would drop by the shop, where you had picked up more hours as of late, and report that Jason was improving; slowly, but it was clear.
You found out more about him from your own research; the county coroner had records of one Jason Todd on file, the cemetery plot visible from the road. You spoke to your grandmother about your discoveries, and she hummed knowingly as stirred a pot of bubbling ooze.
âNecromancy is a dangerous magic, (Y/N),â she clucked, adding some snails to the pot that overflowed with a snap. âNo wonder why he is hurting so. You are a good child for helping him. I know it is not easy.â
It certainly wasnât. Some days, you couldnât overcome Jasonâs anger; it caused migraines that forced you into bed, lights off and headphones on, no music playing but on your ears to block the noise. No amount of medicine cured it; they only abated when Jason settled, or you had enough clarity to calm his emotions.
It happened one night, after you locked the shop and were trotting home and passing an alley, that you were struck blind by a migraine, gasping and groaning as it took you to your knees at the edge of the alley. Through stilted eyes you saw the newest vigilante in town pummeling a thug without mercy, your hazy vision imagining Jasonâs anger appearing very similar to his. You pushed with what you had, trying to calm it, and the vigilante spun, seeing you hung over on the bricks as you attempted to right your orientation.
The pain abated, without more of your help; it had never done that before. You looked up to see the Hood dropping the man to the ground; he didnât approach you, just stared, before scrambling up the fire escape to the roof tops. Shaking your head, you shuffled to your feet and made it home, sighing.
The next time you walked home from the shop, Jason was across the street.
You froze, keys jingling in your hand, as you stared at his looming form across the street. He didnât approach, and you could feel how unsure he was, so you took a chance. Looking both ways, you clutched your bag to your chest as you crossed the busy street, coming to rest carefully next to Jason. He was tense and shy under your gaze, and you breathed out with a smile, eyes fluttering. You turned, beginning to walk home; Jason hung behind you, following uneasily.
About a quarter of a mile, you turned to him, Jason looking like he had been caught trespassing. You shrugged at him. âYou can walk next to me, you know.â
Quick steps as he did so, trotting next to you the entire walk back. No words were spoken between the two of you, and as you reached your apartment door you turned to him, seeing Jason in the light for the first time in months. He looked healthier, like his brother had reported. Still haunted, you sensed, but getting better. You were glad, happy and thankful.
âThat; what is that?â he breathed, hand flying to his chest.
âJason,â you hushed, like you were speaking a secret only meant for the two of you. âThatâs hope.â
He blinked, before a beautiful smile spread over his face. âIâŚforgot what that felt like.â
He came around more often after that night, starting off slow. Walking you home after your shift, appearing at the same coffee shop you frequented, passing by the store for a quick wave. You always reciprocated, and as time went on Jason came closer to you, sitting to have coffee or coming to hang in the store with you. His mind slowly, surely, got quieter and more calm, only with slight outbursts now that didnât incapacitate you as bad as his older bouts.
You were both in the store one day, you attempting to sweep up some glittering dust from the floor, Jason leaning against the counter, bracelet glinting in the light as he tinkered with his helmet. He watched you, and you paused as he slipped in his thoughts, a sense of fondness leaking through your connection.
âI never knew you felt like that, Jason. Couldâve fooled me,â you teased, and he coughed, pulling his hood up over his face and turning away. You laughed, patting his shoulder as you went behind the counter, organizing some jars. Pausing, a thought came to you, and you took a chance in voicing it. âHey, what made you come back? You didnât seem to want anything to do with me that first day.â
He shifted, uncomfortable. ââŚDonât laugh, okay?â
Growing serious, you turned to him, face even. âNever.â
âThat day in the alley, when I saw you crumple to the ground with that migraine, I realized just how much my anger and rage could hurt someone,â he started, slow but sure. âYou didnât move for minutes after you collapsed, (Y/N). I thoughtâŚI thought I killed you. As soon as I felt that concern for you, though⌠you got up. You were okay. And you made me realized that there was more to living than just anger.â
âWhen Iâm with you, like⌠the closer I am, everything is quiet,â he whispered. âAll the negativity, all the dismayâŚdamn, just your presence alone eases it. Itâs nice. Itâs more than I deserve.â
âYou deserve the world, Jason Todd,â you swore, swiping at your eyes, memories of rough conversations about his past coming to your mind. You couldnât help the smile beaming from your face, and you directed it to him. Jason rolled his eyes, turning and grumbling, but you could feel the affection he had for you, bracelet warm against your wrist. You leaned against the counter, arms crossed underneath you, looking up at him.
âHey,â you called softly. He looked down at you. âAs long as you need me, Iâll be here, okay? No matter what.â
It was like a spring unwound in Jason; he breathed out, muscles loosening, a lopsided smirk over his face as he leaned against the counter. He looked at you, head on, before raising a fist up to your level. âIâm going to hold you to that, (Y/N).â
You bumped your fist against his, the two of you watching as starcatchers painted prisms across the shop as the daylight faded into a night that didnât seem so dark anymore.
~~~~~~~~
Valentineâs Day, the holiday for couples. People buy their significant others all the clichĂŠs: red roses, chocolates, oversized stuffed animals, the whole nine yards. A month ago, that all seemed appealing. When you were happily in a relationship with your boyfriend, looking forward to finally have someone to celebrate Valentineâs Day with. That was until he dumped you, claiming âit felt like there wasnât a spark anymore.â
Any hope for a happy Valentineâs Day was shattered. You took the break up pretty bad, and only left your apartment for work. It made your friends worry, especially your best friend. Jason Todd.
Jason had been your best friend for years, you grew up on the streets together, and you were the only one he remembered and trusted when he first came back. As time passed, his feelings for you grew beyond friendship, into an unrequited love. When he realized he had fallen in love with you, he decided heâd keep the feelings to himself. He couldnât risk your friendship or you being in danger because of him. Plus, you had started talking to this guy anyway, you were happy so he was happy.
Well, the key word to that is âwere/was.â When you told him about your break up, he had half a mind to go beat the shit out of the guy. Though, he didnât, he knew it wouldnât help the situation and opted to stay with you and be your shoulder to cry on.
Jason became your main support system through it all and seemed to be at your side whenever he could. One time someone at your job even asked for advice on how to get over exes so fast because they thought you were dating Jason. When he heard about that, he chuckled nervously and tried to suppress the blush on his cheeks at the idea.
You on the other hand, had never really thought of Jason in that light. Well, maybe not never but the thought that your best friend who is the Red Hood and probably one of the sexiest men alive having any interest in you romantically, it seemed far fetched. Jason attracted the most gorgeous of women, why would he be attracted to you?
However, it was thanks to Jason that you seemed to be getting over your ex. You started acting yourself again, having lunch with friends and getting a drink with co-workers after your shift. You started smiling again and felt like something was filling the gap left in your heart. Yet you werenât sure what it quite was.
Though, as if for nothing, the gap opened again when Valentineâs Day rolled around. At work you were again in a slump and just wanted to lock yourself away in your apartment. Around you, co-workers were receiving gifts delivered from significant others. You could tell some were done up a bit more, obviously ready for a date right after work. Normally, you loved your job, but right now you couldnât get far enough away from it.
As soon as it was time to clock out, you were gone after counting down the seconds. The walk back was filled with happy couples celebrating the day. Your mind thought back to your ex, leaving you to wonder if he was thinking about you as well. A pang of hope went off in your heart when your phone buzzed. You looked down just to see it was a text from a store you liked, promoting their âV-Day Sale! All Intimates 25% Off!â Making you growl and turn off your phone, throwing it down into your purse.
Once arriving to your apartment, you stripped out of your work clothes and opted for some comfy sweatpants and a oversized hoodie. You stared for a second at the first one you grabbed, it was red and much too big to be yours or your ex-boyfriendâs. A smile pulled on your lips when you realized it was Jasonâs. Shrugging, you pulled it over your head, drowning in the scent of your best friend. A small feeling pulled at your heart, his smell was always so comforting.
With a sigh, you went back into your living room and closed the blinds so itâd be dark. You grabbed the remote and began clicking through channels. Every channel seemed to be some cheesy, lifetime Valentineâs Day movie. Further making your feeling of loneliness come to the forefront. Shutting off the TV and tossing the remote away, you buried your face in your hands. âCâmon [F/n]. Itâs been a month, get over him.â
You tried to think of things you hated about your ex, make yourself miss him less. It was hard though, he was a relatively good guy and broke up with you because he didnât want to lead you on or anything. Itâd be easier if he was a dick and you could hate him. Him being decent just made it harder to forget him, leaving you to wonder what youâd done wrong. What was wrong with you that things didnât stick.
As you immersed yourself further into negative thoughts, the sound of a knock on the door pulled you out of them. The person knocked again as you rose to your feet, padding over to the front door.
Looking through the peephole, you smiled before opening the door. Jason was on the other side, a smile pulled gently at his lips. He only ever smiled naturally with you around. âHey, so I figured youâd be wallowing.â
You crossed your arms and pouted, âIâm not wallowing.â
âReally, your entire apartment is dark. Who are you? Bruce?â He cocked an eyebrow and enjoyed the small smile that pulled at your lips. He held up a brown paper bag. âI brought chinese.â
You eyed the bag as they widened, âFrom the place a few blocks away?â
Jason grinned, âYour favorite, I know.â He smiled and you took the bag from him, peering inside. He followed you into the kitchen, closing and locking the door behind him. âYou okay?â
You looked up from the food and set it on the counter, shrugging. âIâll live.â
âYou didnât answer your phone when I called.â
âI turned it off, didnât wanna think about [Ex name].â You leaned against the counter, running your hand through your hair. Jason came up to you, engulfing you in his arms. You accepted the hug and buried your face in his chest. âWhy am I not good enough?â You mumbled into his shirt.
â[F/n], you are good enough. You didnât deserve him, you deserve someone better.â He rubbed your back before feeling you pull away.
âBut who? When? Why?â You threw your arms up exasperated. âHe was my first boyfriend ever and it only lasted a few months. What if Iâm just meant to live alone?â
Jason sighed, âYou need to stop thinking like this.â He moved to the take-out bag. Pulling out the containers. âYou need to get your mind off him.â Jason opened the containers and started plating the food. It was all of your favorites, he always knew what you liked, thatâs something you couldnât say about your ex. He picked up the plates and carried them into the living room, looking behind him to make sure you were following.
And you were, knowing if you didnât heâd put the food down, throw you over his shoulder, and carry you there himself. Sitting down, your eyes watched him pick out all of your favorite movies and put the first one in the DVD player. He plopped down next to you, and placed a plate in your lap. âEat.â He stated firmly and you obliged.
Silence hung over you both while the movie played. Jason finished his food first and wrapped his arm around you, this wasnât abnormal for him to do so 3hen you finished, you leaned against him and into his touch. Sighing blissfully in the process as you always felt safe with him. Opening a fortune cookie, you pulled the paper from it, checking the lucky numbers before reading the fortune.
âTrue love is closer than it seems.â
A small smile pulled at your lips and you started to nibble on the cookie. Reading the fortune over again in your head. ââTrue love is closer than it seems.â If this were true then that would mean my true love isâŚâ Your eyes turned to the man who you were currently cuddling with. You hadnât noticed until now you had both laid down and you were laying on top of him. Head against his chest as he breathed steadily and his heartbeat a little faster than you remember it being.
You picked up your head to look at him. Your best friend. Jason Todd. The man who has been there for you no matter what, and vice versa. The man who trusts you and only you with his deepest and darkest secrets. The man who you lost when he was a boy and eventually came back to you.
The man you love.
WaitâŚ
Love?
Your eyes widened and you stared at him. Everything seemed to click into place. From why it was so hard to find someone you liked, to eventually why your relationship didnât work out. Why sparks with him faded. Because you always compared him to Jason, and no one could live up to him. Because you love him.
Jason looked down at you, his eyes meeting yours. â[F/n]?â His voice brought you back, and you felt something warm grow in your heart, filling that void that has been there for a month.
âOh my godâ You whispered and sat up on him, straddling his waist so you could look him in the eye. âOh my god, I.. Iâm so stupid.â
His eyebrow quirked up at you as his heart began to pound in his chest. Did you figure it out? Did you figure out he loves you? â[F/n]?â He called your name again and sat up a little so he could face you better.
âJason.. IâŚâ You leaned in closer to him. âI have been so stupid and blind. I was always looking for the perfect guy for me and setting these expectations that were so familiar. I didnât realize that every guy I encounter, I always compare them to you.â
His eyes widened and he leaned in closer to you. â[F/n]⌠IâŚâ
You realized what you just confessed to him and blushed madly. âIâm sorry, I shouldnât have laid that out on you. I know you donât feel the same way. Why would you? Iâm sorry Jason. Iâm ââ
He shook his head and covered your mouth. âLet me finish.â You stared at him before nodding, he grinned and pulled his hand away. â[F/n].. I feel the same way. I have for a long time.â
âYou have?â
âYeahâ He nodded, feeling a bit of his own blush creep up to his cheeks. âI didnât tell you because I didnât want to lose you or put you in danger.â Jason averted his eyes but he felt your hands cup his cheeks. They were soft and gentle against his skin. He felt your nails slightly scratch his jaw, and it honestly felt good because he hadnât shaved and had some scruff there.
You smiled at him before leaning down and kissing him gently. He returned it just as gently, not wanting to push any limits. Pulling back you pressed your forehead to his, âIâm sorry I was so blind. I missed the perfect guy who was right in front of me for so long.â
He shook his head. âItâs okay, weâre here now.â His hands pushed your hair from your face and he kissed you again gently. âHey [F/n]?â He whispered against your lips, making you hum.
âHappy Valentineâs Day.â
And indeed it was.

Jason is on a case in Gotham, which is not a thing he wanted to do in the middle of freezing February. At least his nose is safe in his helmet. Gotham winters suck. Heâs alone because Roy decided heâs too creeped out by Gotham to come with, and stayed in California like the asshole he is.
Nevertheless, Jason is on a case. A drug case to be specific, heâs following a gang operating on his turf and has managed to find their money man. He just needs to corner him and make him talk.
Thing is, heâs been surveilling his apartment for the last two hours, and he swears if he sees the teenager on the floor below walk aimlessly to the fridge only to open it and close it again, he will yell. He groans aloud when he catches a glimpse of a shadow moving the apartment only for it to be the cat again.
 âOh, I love this show.â A voice says to his right and Jason doesnât jump only because of years of training.
He glances to his left and itâs Tim. Of course, itâs Tim. What could possibly make this night better for Jason. He follows Red Robinâs gaze and finds him snooping on the third-floor apartment where some sort of cartoon is playing.
âIs there something specific you wanted replacement?â Jason asks.
Tim shakes his head at Jason, âSlow night.â He says as an explanation, presumably.
Jason re-settles in his position on the roof and decides he doesnât care enough to start a fight with Tim right now. Heâs also terminally bored, but thatâs for him to know.
Tim settles next to him with an air of satisfaction.
They survey the apartment together silently, but the silence feels different around Jason, not better per-say, he thinks, just different.
That is until Tim starts humming.
Jason ignores him at first, but the tune nags at him the longer Red Robin drones on. He almost asks him what the song is, but then his target opens the door to his apartment and comes in alone, and theyâre both moving like cats on a hunt.
Jason backs his target against the corner of his living room and starts the scare tactics he knows always works on these types of men. He makes himself tower over the man and deepens his voice to a Batman bass, and starts listing off his offenses.
In the corner of his eye, he sees Tim making friends with the manâs cat. The dork.
Jason forgets the whole thing with the song during patrol the rest of the night, but then he finds himself humming in the shower afterwards and it hits him that heâs singing Duran Duran. He rolls his eyes at Tim in the privacy of his bathroom and resolutely decides to make fun of the little hipster when he sees him next.

The second time it happens, Roy is with him.
Theyâre in a car chase somewhere in middle America, Jason is too focused on the car in front of him to think about where theyâre heading.
Roy is yelling ecstatically in the passenger seat and waving an arm out the window, and Jason would be annoyed if he didnât find it just as fun as the redhead does. He feels a smile make its way across his face as his foot presses harder on the gas pedal.
The thief theyâre following has stolen alien tech and heâs not nearly responsible enough to keep it, and well, Kory wants it back. The guy takes a sharp right into a side street and when Jason turns to follow like a maniac, he and Roy both let out a loud whoop.
Jasonâs communicator beeps in his ear as they make the next turn and Jason yells for Roy to answer on the speaker of his helmet in the backseat. Roy dutifully does so.
âWhat?â he yells in answer.
âJason? Is everything okay? Your com is moving very fast.â Timâs voice comes through the helmet.
âSince when do you keep tabs on me you little stalker?â Jason answers and speeds as the car in front of him merges into a highway. Roy laughs.
âyou set off an alert you megalomaniac.â Tim deadpans, then adds, âare you following someone or are you just being an ass?â
âWeâre chasing the black Chrysler 200, little red.â Roy answers, âwanna help?â he adds after a second.
Tim lets out a loud put-upon sigh, but they hear keyboard clicks in the background.
Jason grins; a glance at Roy beside him shows that his friend is just as happy about this new development.
Jason swerves and bypasses a car on the highway, beeping at it in the process.
The perp is still in eyesight but he really doesnât wanna lose him.
Tim starts humming on the com, itâs impossible not to recognize the song, and when Tim gets to the chorus all three of them start singing,
âOne way or another, Iâm gonna find ya, Iâm gonna getcha getcha getcha!â
The laughter that bursts out of Jason is amplified by the adrenaline from the chase. He drums his hands on the steering wheel with the song.Â
They sing the rest of the song accompanied by music that Tim found and broadcasted to him via Helmet. Jason smiles the entire time.
âGot him.â Tim says. Jason and Roy exchange amused looks but donât point out the pun.
The car in front of them starts slowing down.
The song stays in Jasonâs head for days, and he knows for a fact Roy sang it in the shower of their safe house a week later.

The third time, theyâre all in the manor for Alfredâs birthday.
Dick is sitting on the loveseat with Damian on his armrest, Bruce is on the armchair, Stephanie stealing the loveseat all for herself and Cass, and Tim and Jason are on the couch with Alfred and Alfred the cat.
Theyâre watching The Breakfast Club, because it was Timâs turn to pick a movie apparently. Although nobody told Jason there was an order to the picking or heâd have actually shown up on family night before. Â
The movieâs good, a little sappy, but not Dick Grayson sappy so itâs okay.
Itâs when the song starts playing that Tim starts vibrating in his seat and mouthing to the lyrics. Jason can see his hands drumming on the poor cat, and how heâs not scratched to hell by now Jason has no idea.
Dick catches Jasonâs eye across the room and gestures at Tim. Jason shrugs at him, but Dick only shakes his head and frowns at him.
âwhat?â Jason mouths at his big brother.
Dick rolls his eyes in reply and grabs the remote. He rewinds the scene and turns the volume up.
Tim glances up at Dick with the same confusion Jason feels.
Dick gets up, disturbing Damian from his perch, which doesnât seem to earn him the death penalty from the demon brat, but then again, everyone knows Dick has special allowances not available to mere mortals.
Dick reaches Tim and drags him from the couch by his hands and starts singing as his hips dance to the beat. The hesitant smile on Timâs lips turns into a full-blown grin as he joins in the spectacle with his own rendition of the song.
From the corner of his eye, Jason sees the satisfied look on Alfredâs face and resolutely catches Stephâs eye and gets up himself.
âHell yes!â Stephanie say, then quickly follows it with a, âsorry Alf.â
Soon enough, the whole family is dancing around the room. Even Bruce has Cass in his arms and is twirling her around expertly.
Stephanie and Dick are the loudest singers, which bodes well for no one if Jason is being honest.
In the middle of the spectacle Tim grabs Jasonâs hand and pulls him up on the table to reenact the scene and Jason has never felt more ridiculous in his life, but Timâs âPlease Jason.â Kills any reluctance left in him.
At the end of the night, Jason sneaks into the Batcave to steal the footage from the security tapes, but before he gets to the computer, he sees Bruce there reviewing the same tape Jason was looking for with a soft smile on his face.
Jason leaves the manor with leftovers from Alfred and no tape.

The fourth time is a complete accident.
Heâs patrolling his usual route in Gotham. Itâs a normal night, nothing major. All the freaks are in Arkham, and the only crime Jasonâs stopped so far is the petty kind.
Heâs passing by the entrance to a club on a rooftop opposite when he someone catches his eye. He stops and zooms in with his helmet, and holy hell, thatâs replacement.
Tim is in leather pants and a red shirt partially unbuttoned, and heâs wearing makeup. He looks grown up. Jason squints, because somethingâs definitely up. Tim Drake has 0 fashionable bones in his body, and thereâs no way the nerd decided to show up to a club in the east end dressed like that with no reason.
Jason looks down at himself and makes a decision. He strips the most recognizable parts of his uniform and hides them with his helmet on the rooftop; he rigs the security for the helmet to alert him for any theft attempt.
He shows up to the entrance of the âRed Doorâ in his black uniform pants and combat boots and a white tank top. He gives the bouncer a look and gets in without a fuss.
He scans for Tim from the entrance, eyes heading to the bar first, because catching the little shit drinking would be hilarious. Tim isnât there though, so Jason moves in to the dance floor.
He moves fluidly enough to be considered dancing, if only to get through the crowd of people.
When the beginning of the bass of a familiar song starts playing, he catches Tim a few feet away. Heâs dancing with an unfamiliar woman. He looks comfortable, but Jason does not like it.
âso, youâve got to let me know, should I stay or should I go.â
Timâs dance moves start getting better, and of course he would enjoy this song, Jason thinks, his brother is such a hipster.
Jason moves behind him with a smirk and yells a loud âBoo!â in his ear.
Tim turns, wide eyed at him, then rolls his eyes and apologizes to his partner before dragging Jason away.
âwhatâre you doing here?!â He demands.
âAm I not allowed to be curious about my underage brother in a club on my turf?â Jason raises an eyebrow.
Tim looks surprised and Jason realizes that he just called the kid his brother, he groans internally, because he just knows this will get to Dick and the big idiot will be all sappy about it.
âIâm on a case Jason.â Tim explains. And well, Jason should have really figured.
He shrugs at Tim, âneed help?â
Tim smiles at him, itâs a deadly smile with all that eyeliner on his face, and starts dancing back to the dancefloor, ânameâs Alvin.â

The fifth time, the time he stops counting, heâs in one of his safe houses in Gotham.
Itâs one of his more comfortable ones because he wasnât that beat yesterday coming back from patrol and made himself go the extra blocks to wake up in a nicely furnished place on Sunday.
The problem is, he woke up because he heard something move outside the bedroom, and that isnât normal.
He sighs.
Heâs fully awake because his body is used to fight or flight responses, but he really doesnât want to have to deal with this at, he glances at the clock, 10 am on a Sunday. His sighs deepen.
He gets up nevertheless, and moves with one of his guns towards the door. He pushes it open silently and the music is the first thing he hears. Itâs synthetic, and somewhere in the back of his mind a bell chimes in recognition, but he doesnât focus on it.
When the voice sounds half humming, half singing to the music, âdonât you want me baby, donât you want me oooh.â Jason sets his gun on the living room table and rubs his face.
âWhy?â he asks Tim, whoâs by the coffeemaker in his kitchen.
âOh Hi, good morning.â The kid chimes.
âNo. not good morning, explain to me why Iâm awake red.â Jason glares.
Tim smiles, and Jason wonders when his glares stopped working on him, he mourns the loss of a very effective method for the second he has before Tim turns the sound up on his phone, since apparently this house is an awake house now.
He goes back to the coffee, and then to steal food out of Jasonâs fridge.
Jason glances around the place and notices Timâs uniform on the couch, and the obviously slept in look the couch has. And considers how weird it is that Tim can sneak into his place in the middle of the night without waking him up.
When he catches himself singing along with Tim unconsciously, he has to admit he lost this strange secret game between them, and as he watches his little brother making breakfast in his kitchen, he has to admit he doesnât really mind.
