· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
You and the girls had all agreed it had been far too long since you all got together to catch up, so that’s exactly what you were doing tonight. You bought pizza, Maya bought wine, and Jess invited you both over. At first she said Noah could join too, but you didn’t want that, you just wanted to be with your best friends. You wanted it to feel like it used to, when the three of you would stay up until the early hours of the morning giggling with each other, gossiping, bringing back up old stories from school. You promised them nothing would change now you and Noah were basically dating.
Though it felt like he was here with you anyway, with the amount of texts you were receiving.
Noah: I miss you :(
Noah: Hope you’re all having fun babe
Noah: Please don’t start drunk texting me though, I can never understand a thing you’re trying to say
You chuckled at his messages, before tossing your phone on to the coffee table carefully and turning back to the girls. Jess and Maya were both sitting on the couch, and you were more than happy to take the beanbag.
“So, how's loverboy?” Jess asked with a grin as she took a sip of her wine.
“He’s being clingy.” You sighed playfully, “I told him to go out with the guys or do something, but he’s at home writing or doing… whatever Noah does.”
“I can’t believe we’ve watched you go from hating this guy to being completely whipped-”
“I am not-”
“Admit it,” Maya smiled, “You’re a little whipped.”
You groaned, shaking your head.
“Can we please not use the word whipped… what happened to saying you just like somebody.”
“Oooh so you like him, huh? It seems a lot deeper than that to me.” Jess chuckled. “You spend all your time with this guy, you work with him, you go home with him- or he goes home with you- you smile like an idiot when you think about him, like you’re doing right now-”
“Shut up!” You grinned despite yourself
“Case closed.” Jess smiled triumphantly as she reached for another slice of pizza.
Everything felt normal… it all felt good again. You hadn’t had a night with your friends like this in too long, you’ve been too busy with work at the garage, too stressed with Steve being in the hospital… and then of course, there was Noah. Life had just gotten a little busy, but you made a promise that you’d never let anything ever get in the way of you and your best friends.
And two bottles of wine later, the topic of conversation came back to Noah.
“I’m serious though,” Jess said with a smile. “You two are literally made for each other…”
You groaned again, leaning back in the beanbag.
“Please stop. Can we talk about something else? How’s Sam?”
Jess ignored you completely, and Maya tilted her head slightly, watching you.
“So how did this even happen?” She asked. “The last time I remember we talked about him, you were calling him an idiot.”
“He is an idiot.” You said immediately.
Jess laughed.
“But he’s your idiot now.”
You pointed at her again.
“You are on thin ice tonight, Jessica.”
She raised her hands in surrender.
“Okay, okay. But seriously, remind us… because I still remember the first time you told us about him, you were like ohh there’s this new guy at work, he’s the most annoying person I’ve ever met.”
You rolled your eyes, though you couldn’t stop smiling.
“He was annoying- he still is.” You took another sip of your drink.
“Yeah, but… in a good way.” Jess giggled.
“In a good way.” You agreed around a mouthful of wine.
Maya tilted her head slightly.
“In a good way?”
You shrugged, trying to act casual even though your cheeks were starting to feel warm.
“Yeah, because even though he got under my skin and he knew it, he just… stuck around.”
Jess snorted.
“I mean it,” you said, sitting forward a little now. “Most people would’ve given up.”
Maya’s brows drew together slightly.
“Given up on what?”
“On me.” You said simply.
The room went a little quieter. You hadn’t meant to say it like that, but it was true. And you all knew it, and that’s why Jess’s expression softened.
“Hey-”
You shrugged again.
“I’m serious. I wasn’t exactly easy on him at the beginning. You guys know that.”
Jess laughed quietly.
“That’s one way to put it.”
“You hated him.” Maya added.
“I didn’t hate him… not really.”
“You said you did.”
You shook your head.
“Whatever happened in the beginning doesn’t matter now, because he proved himself.” You said after a moment, your voice softer now. “At first, I thought he was just this fuckboy. He was always talking about girls he’d slept with and what he did the night before- he even came into work one morning covered in hickies. But… I dunno. I guess I just warmed up to him in the end, because I saw through the fuckboy act… and I realised we were more alike than either of us thought...”
Maya watched you carefully.
“And that’s when you fell for him?”
You shook your head.
“No.”
“So when did it happen?” Jess asked curiously.
You thought about it for a second, and images flickered through your mind.
The day it rained when you were walking home from work and Noah insisted on driving you back, and he didn’t give up until you got in the car. When he asked for Maya’s number to make you jealous, but got yours in the end anyway. When your car broke down and he left a party to come and help you, to make sure you were safe. The time he stuck up for you when the rude customer came in, “you think I’d let anyone talk to you like that? Not a chance.” The night Steve locked you both in the garage overnight. When he picked you up from the bar when you were drunk and wanted to go home without ruining your friends' night. The business trip, the hotel room, losing your virginity to him. Sam’s halloween party- spending Noah’s birthday with him, buying him a cake, making him feel special… the way he held you when you cried outside the hospital. The way he told you he loved you.
Your lips curved into a small smile.
“I don’t think there was one particular moment. He just slowly became my favourite person.”
Jess clutched her chest.
“Oh that’s so sweet…” She pouted.
Maya swirled the wine- her fourth or fifth glass- slowly, and didn’t even look up when she spoke.
“And he treats you well?” She asked.
You looked up immediately.
“Yeah.” There was no hesitation. “Really well. Better than I even treat myself a lot of the time.”
Jess nodded approvingly.
“I always liked him, honestly. Even when he was fucking around with other girls in the beginning, I knew he would stop it all if you told him to.”
You blinked at her.
“You did?”
“Yeah,” she shrugged. “From the stories you told, it sounds a lot like he fell for you long before you even considered liking him.”
“You mean the ones where I complained about him constantly?”
“Yes!” She laughed. “And I realised as time went by that you were falling for him too...”
You snorted, about to shoot something back when your phone buzzed again, and Jess grabbed it before you could even move.
“HA!”
“Jess!”
She held the phone out of your reach, squinting at the screen.
“Oh my god.”
“What?!”
She read it out loud.
“You’re just gonna ignore me babe?- and there's another! Make sure you drink water after each glass of wine, don’t want you feeling like shit tomorrow. Aww! He’s babysitting you!”
“He is not.” You hissed.
Jess tossed the phone back to you.
“Text him back.”
You glanced at the screen, and started typing.
You: I’m fine, I can handle my drink
Noah: Sure, and that’s why I keep puke bags in my car huh?
You laughed under your breath, and set your phone back down on the table. Then Maya leaned back into the couch cushions again, watching you.
“So…” She said slowly, her cheeks pink from the wine.
You looked up.
“Yeah?”
“When did you realise you were actually… in love with him?”
The question made your stomach flip, and Jess’s eyes widened.
“Oh shit. Good question.”
You hesitated for a second, then let out a small breath.
“Well, we actually said it to each other… just a few weeks ago.”
Jess leaned forward eagerly.
“Huh? What happened?”
You stared down at your wine glass, smiling softly.
“We were at the hospital visiting Steve.”
Jess’s expression softened immediately.
“And I just… got overwhelmed.” You rubbed your thumb along the side of the glass. “I started crying and Noah was just so good with me… that’s when I really realised I loved him, and it… just slipped out.”
Jess gasped.
“You said it first?!”
“Yeah.” You nodded slowly, a little shy now under the attention.
Maya sat up a little straighter now.
“And he said it back?” She asked.
You glanced down at your glass for a second before looking back up, not even trying to stop the smile from spreading across your face.
“Yeah, he did.”
Jess couldn’t help but let out a delighted squeal, kicking her feet like a teenager.
“Oh my god, I love this! I love you two!!”
You groaned as you covered your face for a second while she laughed. But Maya didn’t laugh.
Because she felt her heart sink.
“Oh… really?” She asked slowly, quietly.
You frowned slightly at her tone.
“…Yeah?”
She leaned back against the couch, her expression unreadable. But in her chest, her heart was racing, adrenaline raced through her veins, and the feelings she had tried so so hard to push down were threatening to rise again. Despite her best efforts to hold it back, she felt it all at once. Guilt, anger, jealousy, sadness, confusion.
She didn’t think. She didn’t stop herself. The words came out before she could stop them.
“Well I guess his plan worked then.”
Your stomach dropped.
“His what?”
Maya shrugged casually. She told Noah that she wouldn’t tell you that they slept together. So instead, she decided she’d make something up, something even more painful, something she knew you’d never forgive him for. Something you’d believe.
“You know. His plan all along was just to get in your pants.”
Jess’s blood suddenly ran cold as she turned her head to face her.
“Maya, what the hell are you talking about?”
“You know it too, Jess. He told me to my face, he said he only wanted to fuck you because nobody else had. He didn’t want anything more, but you just got too attached, then your uncle got sick and he didn’t want to make himself look like an asshole. So he stayed. Not because he wanted to, but because he felt like he had to.”
You suddenly felt sick to your stomach.
…
Not too far away, Noah was at home. He was sitting in his bedroom, cross legged on his bed with his guitar in his lap. He was humming away to himself as he played, coming up with some ideas for new songs.
He’d been texting you all night- he knew he shouldn’t have, since you were spending the night with your best friends, but he was missing you already. God, you’ve completely taken over his brain.
He wasn’t quite sure when exactly he fell in love with you- it could’ve been the first time you ever called him annoying, or a bastard- but all he knew that he was in so deep now. He’s never felt this way really about anybody before. But you were just different.
He liked that you put up a fight in the beginning, he was so used to girls swooning over him, wanting to get him in their beds, they’d blush and giggle when he’d compliment them- but you would roll your eyes at him and tell him to fuck off. He still wondered to himself if you were playing hard to get all along, or if you genuinely didn’t like him in the beginning. Either way, his bed now smells like you, and he keeps a little basket of your things on his dresser for when you sleep over.
He was just hoping you’d be okay with the move.
He was looking at moving to LA for the band, and he found a nice apartment not too far from where his friends live. He was hesitant about it at first, since he’d gotten used to life here again. Originally, his plan was to come back to his hometown for a while, get a boring job and start saving up so he could move out there. He never in a million years thought he would’ve fallen in love here.
So he was going to ask you to come with him.
It wasn't definite yet, though. He wasn’t sure if he would get the place, but he’s already submitted the application, so he was waiting to hear back. He remembered the night of Sam’s halloween party, the way you told him you wanted to get out of this place one day and make a name for yourself, so he was going to ask you to come with him and offer you that opportunity. He was just afraid that with your uncle being sick, and having to run the shop essentially by yourself, that you’d say no- which was fine. He was perfectly happy doing a long distance relationship, but he just hated the idea of you being alone after a bad day, having nobody to cuddle with when you were sick, having nobody to hold you at night.
God, why did he have to fall for you?
He found himself distracted again, staring down at the guitar in his lap as he thought about it all.
If you moved out there with him, you could work for the band. They needed someone to help out with merch, or you could even help Matt-
But what if you wanted to do your own thing, separate from him? You were already so independent, who said you’d even want to work for the band?
Noah sighed, putting his guitar down and checking his phone again… but you hadn’t replied. He hoped you were having a fun night with your friends, talking about whatever girls talk about when they’re together…
…
“You’re lying to me.” You said, shaking your head, “Noah’s not like that! Why would he even talk to you about that...?”
“You wanna bet on that?” Maya scoffed.
“Look, can we not start this tonight?” Jess groaned, “I thought we were going to-”
“Sorry Jess, but it's not adding up. If she’s accusing my boyfriend of-”
“Oh so he’s your boyfriend now? I thought you two didn’t want to label it? What does that tell you about him?” Maya snapped back, a stupid smirk on her face that you wanted to-
“I was the one who didn’t want to put a label on it!”
“Really?” She crossed her arms over her chest, “And why’s that? Because you’re scared of this very thing? That he’ll break your heart when things start to get too real, because he didn’t give a shit from the beginning?”
You tried to tell yourself she was lying. Oh how you tried to tell yourself it wasn’t true… but that was the reason.
“And why are you only telling me all of this now?” You asked, already sounding a little defeated.
“Because I never thought you’d actually be so stupid as to fall for him!” She laughed, taking another sip of wine, “Guys like Noah don’t do relationships, they just to fuck and move on to the next when they’ve gotten what they wanted. Which is what Noah would’ve done, if you didn’t get too attached. I mean c’mon, you were playing hard to get in the beginning, he just wanted to know he could fuck you. You seriously think he actually loves you?”
Oh, that was it. That touched something deep inside you, just like she knew it would, and you snapped.
The glass in your hand hit the table a little harder than you meant for it to, the wine spilling over the rim as you rose to your feet.
“Say that again.” Your voice shook with nothing but anger, and Jess quickly raised her hands in the air.
“Hey, hey- let’s just calm down-”
But Maya was completely unfazed, she just leaned back, that smug look still sitting on her face like she wanted this reaction from you.
“I said,” she repeated slowly, “You seriously think he loves-”
Smack.
The sound echoed through the room before she could even finish what she was saying. You slapped her over the face so hard that her head turned to the side, and all that followed for a second was silence.
Until she opened her mouth to say something again- but you didn’t let her. She barely had time to react before you grabbed her by the front of her top, and yanked her forwards, dragging her up to her feet.
“What are you-”
“Don’t you fucking talk about him like that!” You hissed now that you were face to face. Your chest was heaving, but she still looked too unfazed. God you wanted to wipe that look off her face.
And as if she couldn't make it any worse, she just laughed...
“You’re pathetic.” She said, “You really think he-”
You didn’t let her finish. Instead, without realising you ever had it in you, your fist flew into her face, the sound of it echoing through the room as she stumbled back from the force of it. Jess gasped, loud and panicked, but afraid to get involved.
“Oh my god-”
Maya staggered, her hand flying up to her cheek, her eyes wide now- no longer smug or calm. But worse... angry.
She shoved you back hard, but it didn’t stop you, because you grabbed a fistful of her hair and yanked hard. Pain shot through her scalp as her hands flew up to grab at your wrist, but you pulled again.
“You’re lying!” You cried, “You don’t even know him!”
“I know enough!” She snapped back, her voice sharp as he tried to pry you off of her, “More than you do apparently-”
“Shut up!” You shouted, pulling again, your grip tightening without even thinking.
“Get the fuck off me!” She yelled, and this time she grabbed your hair back.
You let out a pained groan, but you didn’t stop. The two of you just stood there for a second, locked like that- both angry, gripping each other, too far gone to stop. Under any other circumstance it may have looked hilarious, but right now you were just furious.
“Stop it!” Jess cried, rushing forwards, but neither of you listened.
“You really think you’re special?” Maya hiss through her teeth, tugging your hair again, “You think you’re the one he suddenly decided to change for?”
“Yes!” You shouted, your voice shaky, tears beginning to spill from your eyes, “I do!”
“Then you’re a fucking idiot!”
You couldn’t help but snap again, never have you ever been a violent person, but you shoved her as hard as you could. Her grip on you slipped as she lost her balance, stumbling backwards before going down, hitting the floor with a heavy thud beside the coffee table.
“Maya!” Jess gasped, her hands shaking as she held them over her mouth.
But you weren’t listening. Your breathing was completely out of control, your chest heaving, your hands shaking too as you lowered them to your sides. Your head hurt, your heart was pounding so hard it made you feel sick, but Maya still wasn’t backing down. She pushed herself up slightly, one hand braced on the floor, the other coming up to her shoulder where you shoved her- and she just glared at you furiously, like she meant every word she said.
And a part of you was afraid, because you actually believed her.
“I need to talk to him.” You said quietly, wiping your tears away from your face as you reached for your phone from the coffee table.
“...What?” Jess asked, looking between the two of you.
“I’m not listening to this from her.” You said, your eyes locked on Maya as you spoke to Jess, “If there’s anything to hear… he can say it to my face.”
Maya let out a short, humourless laugh as she sat up fully.
“Yeah,” she scoffed, “Go on then.”
Jess stopped in front of you, her hands hovering like she wasn’t sure whether to touch you or not.
“Hey… don’t do anything stupid, okay?” She said softly, “You’ve been drinking, you’re upset- just wait until tomorrow when you’ve got a clear head-”
“I’m not waiting.” You said, your voice interupting hers. You grabbed your coat with trembling hands, your whole body still rushing with adrenaline, your head spinning from everything she’d just said.
“I need to hear it from him.”
Jess’s expression softened, worry written all over her face.
“You shouldn’t go alone.”
“I’ll be fine.” But your voice didn’t sound fine, not even a little.
You shoved your arms into your coat and grabbed your bag before heading straight for the door.
“Text me when you get there!” Jess called after you, but you didn’t answer her.
You just opened the door, felt the cold night air hit you like a shock, and stepped out into the night.
Your heart was racing, your head was still full of all Maya's words, your hands were still shaking, but none of that mattered. You were already walking fast, fueled by anger and hurt, by the need to hear the truth from him.
Back inside, Jess was cursing at Maya as she dragged her up from the floor.
“What the hell was that about?” She asked, her voice sharp as she helped Maya onto her feet.
She just shrugged, clearly drunk.
“She needed to hear it.”
Jess’s eyebrows raised in disbelief.
“Are you serious right now? None of what you said was true in the slightest!”
…
Noah was still sitting on his bed, still checking his phone every few minutes to see if you had replied, but you hadn’t. So he picked his guitar back up again, and played purely from muscle memory, since his mind was elsewhere.
But then all of a sudden, the sound of the door practically being bashed down made him flinch.
BANG BANG BANG
“What the fuck?”
Noah frowned as he sat the guitar back down, and stood up.
BANG BANG BANG BANG
“Alright, alright!” He called out as he rushed down the stairs.
He had no idea who it could be. It was late, his friends had keys, and you were at Jess’s place. He was almost hesitant to open the door, since something about it didn’t feel right. He swallowed hard, his stomach turning as he reached for the door handle-
And there you were- red eyed, messy hair, tears streaming down your face, your chest rising and falling far quicker than normal.
His heart dropped.
“Baby-” He barely got the word out, as you shoved past him
“Don’t you fucking call me that!”
He spun around, shutting the door carefully.
“What happened?” He asked, stepping towards you slowly, his voice softening, “What’s wrong?”
You shook your head, wiping frustratedly at your face, your hands still shaking.
“Don’t-” Your voice broke, and you had to swallow before trying again, “Don’t act like you don’t know.”
“I dont,” he started, frowning, “What are you talking about?”
You let out a shaky laugh, stepping back from him like you couldn’t stand to be too close.
“Maya.” You said, and her name tasted bitter in your mouth. You were about to continue, but you saw the way his expression changed, he looked like he saw a ghost.
And that was the moment you knew.
“...What about Maya?” Noah asked carefully.
You took a deep breath before meeting his eyes again.
“Is it true?” You asked, your voice small. “What she told me about you?”
Fuck.
His heart dropped. Maya promised not to say anything, they both agreed it was best you never found out that they used to hook up- since that’s what he thought you were talking about.
“It is, isn’t it?” Your eyes were wide and teary, searching his face like you were begging him to say no.
But he didn’t. He just froze… and for a second, he thought about lying.
But he couldn’t do that to you, not when you looked like that, not when he didn’t know just what detail Maya would’ve gone into. So he braced himself, exhaling slowly.
“...I’m so sorry.” He said quietly, “I never meant for it to happen the way it did.”
Oh.
You felt your heart physically shatter into pieces. Your chest hurting in a way it had never done before, you felt sick to your stomach.
“I see…” You said, your voice just above a whisper.
You never meant anything to him? This was an act, this entire time, because he felt sorry for you. All he wanted was to get in your pants, but you made it into something else entirely.
“Baby, I’m so sorry,” he said again, his voice sounding almost desperate, “If I could go back and do things differently, I would. It’s just… one thing led to another, I tried not to let it become what it did, but… I’m sorry.”
All you could do was stare at him in silence, trying to wrap your head around it all…
“Say something,” he whispered, reaching for you, “Please-”
“Don’t touch me!” You stepped back, the words landing hard, making him freeze.
You had to look away, the sight of him made you feel sick.
“I’m sorry, Noah.” You said, and his brows drew together, “I’m sorry I ever trusted you. I’m sorry I read it all wrong, I’m sorry I got too close. I knew deep down you could never ever change, but I gave you a chance anyway. So I guess I just hurt myself, huh?” You sighed, stepping towards the door, “I should’ve fucking knew from the beggining that you were nothing more than a-”
“Hey, don’t leave. We can fix this, okay? Can we just talk about it, so you can hear both sides?”
You shook your head.
Deep down, you felt more disappointed than angry.
Disappointed at yourself, because you’ve never been this stupid before. You’ve always guarded your heart, you’ve never put yourself in the position to get hurt… but Noah just seemed different. Guess the saying was right all along, all men are the same. And they never change.
“No. There’s nothing to talk about, Noah. We’re done.”

Chapter Ten
warnings: MDNI!! non-proofread smut, belated birthday sex lmao
OH SHIIIT GUESS WHO FINALLY HAS WIFI BACK!! (ME!!) i'm sorry i'm coming back and posting a short chapter but it kinda made sense to stop where i did at the end hehe :) the next chapter (along with my mini christmas with mechanic!noah series) should hopefully make up for that <3
· · ─ ·✶· ─ · ·
You woke up to warmth, to quiet, and to an uncomfortable ache in your neck.
For a long moment, you didn’t move. The air in the room was rather cold, so you tugged the covers up over you and Noah a little more, and snuggled back up to him with a little content smile as you felt his chest rise and fall beneath you.
You turned a little, careful not to wake him, and your eyes found his face.
His hair was a mess, falling across his eyes and into his face. His lips were slightly parted, and there was the faintest crease between his brows as he snored softly.
Your brain, betraying you, decided to think back to his notebook, to the lyrics he’d written. Was I not good enough? Worthy of being loved?
And looking at him now, so still and quiet, so peaceful, you couldn’t understand how he ever believed that. You couldn’t believe that nobody had ever loved him before… because it was so easy.
This morning, he looked peaceful. He looked rather human in a way you hadn’t seen before. All the teasing and sarcasm and arrogance was gone, and right now you were looking at the real Noah.
You lifted a hand slowly, brushing a stray hair from his face, your fingertips lingering against his temple. He stirred a little, his arm tightening around your waist.
“Idiot,” you whispered softly, your voice barely audible. “You’re not alone.”
You didn’t even know if you meant for him to hear it. Maybe you just needed to say it aloud, just to make it real somehow.
Your eyes drifted to the sunlight that was spilling onto the bed through the gap in his curtains. It must still be early. And as you lay there, you realised you didn’t want to move. Not now, and maybe not ever.
You didn’t want to wake him or break whatever fragile thing this was.
So you stayed there. You let your fingers trace the tattoos on his chest. Watched his chest continue to rise and fall, and tried not to think about how this really made you feel… how you were really catching feelings for him.
He started to stir not long after. A sleepy hum left his throat as he blinked one eye open, a sleepy smirk forming when he realised you were watching him.
“Staring at me while I'm asleep?” His voice was deep, a little rough from sleep. “That’s kinda creepy, babe.”
You rolled your eyes, but couldn’t help the smile that tugged at your lips. He caught your hand before you could pull away, lacing his fingers through yours. His thumb brushed over your knuckles lazily.
“Morning, sweetheart.” He mumbled through a lazy grin
“Morning.” You said back, though it came out quieter than you expected.
For a moment, you both just lay there with each other. There was no teasing, no jokes, just your hand in his. Fuck, he wasn’t sure if a girl had ever stayed this long in his bed. Usually, after sex, they go on their way and leave him before the sun would rise, leaving him full of emptiness and regret. But this morning, the both of you came to the realisation that maybe neither of you had to be so alone anymore...
“C’mere.” Noah tugged you impossibly closer.
“I am here.” You chuckled, fighting a smile.
“Mm, nope. Not close enough.” He said, and before you could argue, he was sitting up and pulling you gently into his lap.
“Noah!” You laughed quietly.
He buried his face in your shoulder, his hair tickling your neck.
“Mmh. You’re warm.” He said against your skin, pressing gentle kisses to where your shoulder met your neck.
You rolled your eyes, but your arms slipped around him anyway, your fingers brushing the nape of his neck. He still smelled like sleep and soap and whatever cologne he uses.
Neither of you spoke for a while, you just sat there together, in your own little world sharing sleepy morning kisses, not feeling a need to fill the silence between you.
Noah had never let himself feel so vulnerable like this. He was afraid maybe he was giving a bit too much of himself, since you made it clear you didn't like him quite the way he liked you. However, what he didn’t know was that you were afraid of the exact same thing. You told yourself maybe you should slow down a little, because Maya’s words still played in your head., and you didn’t want to get hurt.
But when his kisses became hungrier, it made it almost impossible to pull away. His lips trailed from yours back to your neck, his teeth grazing the soft skin, making your stomach flip. One large hand slid down your back slowly, until his fingers splayed almost possessively over your ass, pulling you tighter against him.
You could feel him hardening beneath you, thick and prominent even through his pants, sending a shiver down your spine. A soft gasp slipped your lips as his other hand moved from your hip, he pulled away from your neck and cupped your face in one hand, forcing your eyes on him.
“Can I eat you out?” He asked, already breathless, eyes dark.
You swallowed hard. That's one thing he’s not done before, and you felt a little nervous. Panic crossed over you, you worried a little and started to feel quite self concious but then-
You whimpered as his hand suddenly slipped under your tank top, cupping one of your breasts, his thumb brushing your nipple.
“It’s okay to say no, y'know.” He said, “We can just keep doing this-”
“No,” you shook your head, “I want it. Please.” You said, watching a lazy grin spread across his face.
“As you wish, princess.” He smirked, and with a surprising gentleness, he guided you off his lap and laid you back against the pillows.
He kissed your lips, then your jaw, then your neck. He took his time, kissing down your body, his teeth grazing your flesh every now and then as he looked up at you through his lashes. He pushed your top up, exposing the soft skin of your tummy as he continued on his way down.
When he hooked his fingers into your shorts, he looked up at you as if to ask for permission again. And when you gave a soft, dizzy nod of your head, he tugged them down.
“Oh, baby…” He grinned, his eyes lighting up like a kid on christmas, “What do we have here?”
His large hand cupped you over the lace thong you had slipped on last night before coming back to him. It was nothing too special, but he looked quite delighted.
“Is this what you wanted to show me last night?” He asked, smirking evilly as his fingers traced over your lower lips, tpuching everywhere excpet for where you needed him.
“Mhm.” You nodded, not trusting yourself to speak too much.
“Oh, babe. The birthday gifts just don’t end, do they?” He grinned before leaning down, and he kissed you over the lace, then his tongue poked out, and you felt the warmth of it along with his breath as he groaned against you. “Fuck, can’t wait to taste you properly.”
This was it. This was how you die. With Noah Sebastian’s head buried between your thighs.
“Don’t wanna take this off. It’s too pretty,” he pouted, his thumb slipping under the waistband of the underwear, “But I know what's underneath is even prettier… isn’t it, baby?”
Seriously. This will be the death of you.
You couldn't answer, you felt too dizzy, and he could tell. He chuckled softly before tugging the lace down, and you moved your legs, letting him take them off and gently throw them down on the floor along with your shorts.
He let himself settle between your thighs properly this time. His broad shoulders pushed your legs wider, and the cool air of the room hit your exposed core, making you shiver again. Then his warm breath followed, ghosting over your slick folds, and you felt his thumbs gently part your lips, exposing everything to his hungry gaze.
“Can’t believe I’m the only one you trust to touch you here…” He said, almost trancelike as his thumb traced a gentle circle over your entrance, gathering some of the wetness before sliding it up to graze over your clit, making you squirm.
He watched your reactions carefully, noting down in his mind every hitch in your breath, every time you’d involuntary clench around nothing, every little sound. Then, he parted his lips, the tip of his tongue dragging tortuously along your inner lips, avoiding your clit, avoiding your entrance.
“Noah, please…” You whispered, though it sounded more like a gasp, your body arching- though that was soon stopped as his hands came down on your stomach, holding you in place.
“Hm?” He lifted his head slightly, feigning innocence. “You want something, babe?”
You nodded frantically, not caring how stupid and desperate you looked.
“Stop teasing… please just… touch me… there.”
He chuckled softly, smiling up at your frustration.
“Here?” He asked, his tongue flicking just below your clit.
“Higher! There!” You insisted, growing even more desperate.
He decided to give in, his tongue flattening against you, giving one long, wet stroke from your core upwards, making you cry out. Then, he zeroed in. His lips closed over your clit and with the most perfect pressure, not too hard, not too soft, he gently sucked.
And fuck. You’ve never felt anything like it.
Your back attempted to arch again, feeling pleasure rush to your head. He moaned against you, the vibration only adding to the dizzying feeling.
He really took his time, and to be honest you didn’t expect anything less. He let it build slowly, licking long stripes through your folds, savouring the taste like this would be his only chance. He circled your clit with the tip of his tongue before sucking it again, varying the pressure and rhythm based on the sounds you made and the way your hips would try to move under his hands. And when you didn’t think it could get any better, you felt the tip of his index finger circle your entrance, before it slowly dipped in, sliding deep inside with ease thanks to how soaked and needy you already were. He twisted his wrist, then crooked his finger perfectly, finding that spot inside you as his mouth continued to work your clit.
“You’re so fucking perfect,” he groaned against you, his voice muffled by your flesh, “Could do this forever.”
Fuck, it was all too overwhelming in the most delicious way possible. Your thighs trembled as a second long, thick finger joined the first, helping your orgasm build and build…
You tried to warn him, your nails dug into his shoulders, you whimpered, you whined, you babbled incoherently… but it only spurred him on. He sucked harder, his nose nuzzling against your mound, his fingers thrusting deeper and harder.
With a raw, needy cry, you came. It stole your breath and your vision for the briefest moment, he moved his hands and let your hips buck against his mouth as you rode it out, tears spilling from your eyes as he kept licking and sucking you through it, drawing out all he could until you were whimpering, pushing weakly at his head.
“Too much… Noah, too much…” You panted, feeling boneless and utterly spent.
Slowly, he lifted his head, his lips and chin glistening wetly in the morning light. His eyes were still dark as he took in the sight of the wreckage he’d made of you- trembling limbs, tear streaked cheeks, chest heaving. He gently slipped his fingers out of you, and crawled back up your body, kissing a trail up your stomach and between your breasts again.
“How was it?” He asked against your lips.
“...Amazing.” You breathed, still catching your bread as he kissed you once on the lips, and you could taste yourself on him.
God, the sight of him, he was hard as rock beneath his pants, his eyes still dark and needy… it ignited something within you again. He was so good to you, and now you wanted to see him lose control.
You pushed against his chest, gently but firmly. Understanding flickered in his eyes, and he flipped the two of you again. He was now laying with his back against the mattress whilst you swung a leg over his hips to straddle him again. You reached down, tugging down his sweats impatiently, freeing his cock- thick and flushed at the tip, veins prominent against the hard shaft, already leaking... you bit your lip, taking him into your hand and looking into his eyes as you gave him one pump in your hand, then carefully lifted yourself up. He helped to guide the head towards your entrance, then slowly, you sank down onto him, biting down harder on your lip as you felt the delicious stretch.
“Shit… ohh fuck.” He groaned as you sunk down completely, burying him deep inside. The sensation was intense for the both of you, you were so tight, warm and wet around him, and you were still sensitive.
But fuck, you felt so full.
“That’s it… get comfortable. Only move when you’re ready.”
You nodded and began to move, suddenly unsure of what to do. You rolled your hips experimentally at first, trying to find a rhythm and an angle that dragged him deliciously against that spot inside you. You braced your hands on his broad chest, and a lazy smirk spread across Noah’s lips as he watched you above him, his hands coming to rest on your hips. He enjoyed the view above him, the bounce of your tits still confined in your bra, the glowy sweat on your skin, the concentration on your face… but he could tell you weren’t sure how to do this.
“Mm,” he hummed after a moment, and you could already tell he was about to say something that’d make you want to smack him, “Is that all you’ve got, babe? C’mon, ride me like you mean it.”
“Shut up.” Your brows furrowed as frustration took over. Your movements faltered for a second, before stubborn determination set in. You lifted yourself higher off him before coming back down with more force, your walls squeezing around him as you did so.
“Fuck.. that’s better.” Noah groaned though gritted teeth, his smirk vanishing.
So you did it again, and again, riding him harder, faster, messier. You watched Noah squeeze his eyes shut as you continued, the sound of skin meeting skin filling the room along with his groans and your breathless gasps.
You shifted your hips again, trying to angle him just right… but every time you bounced on him, the perfect spot was still frustratingly out of reach. Noah was watching you struggle, panting beneath you. His dark, heavy lidded eyes tracked every movement, every tilt of your hips, every time your brows drew together in frustration. He chuckled, one hand coming up to brush his thumb against your cheek.
“Can’t quite find that sweet spot, huh?” His voice was raspy as his other hand remained on your hip, his thumb digging into where your thighs met your hips, controlling your descent slightly on the next downstroke, slowing you down agonisingly. “Driving yourself crazy trying to make yourself cum on my cock?”
You whimpered, shaking your head stubbornly even as he told the truth. You lifted again, shifting your hips again, determined to get his dick to grind against that spot perfectly this time…
And as you came back down, you felt it, a spark of white hot pleasure as the head dragged against that ridge inside you. Your mouth dropped open in a silent cry, your eyes falling shut. And just as you were about to do it again… you were stopped.
Hands came around you, and before you could even process what was happening, he flipped you onto your back again.
Your gasp was cut off as the air was stolen from your lungs, because his weight was pressing down on top of you, and with one arm, he hooked your knee up, resting your leg over his shoulder. He planted one hand firmly beside your head, and did not hesitate before slamming back into you, burying himself to the hilt with one rough, mean thrust.
“Fuck-” The cry tore from your throat. Somehow he was even deeper than before, and hitting that spot you couldn’t quite find just now.
“That the spot, baby?” He growled against your ear, and you could hear the smirk in his voice.
He didn’t wait for an answer, or for you to say anything, because he dragged his cock almost all the way out, before pounding back into you.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
The bedframe embarassingly banged against the wall with each thrust of his hips, it was as if he was fucking you like he was purposely trying to break the damn bed, and he was burying himself so deep, all you could do was pant and claw your nails against his skin.
“Look at you taking my dick, baby… oh.. who would’ve thought.” He chuckled darkly against your skin again before his lips pressed a soft kiss to your neck.
His free hand slowly dragged between your bodies, finding your already overstimulated clit, brushing the rough pad of this thumb over it just once, making you whine and shudder.
“Noah!” You groaned, though it came out as more of a whimper.
“Wanna feel you cum on my cock, baby… wanna feel that tight pussy squeeze me… look how well she’s taking me.”
You shook your head, but it was no use, because you could already feel the pleasure building within you again with every stroke. You gripped onto his bicep with one hand, the other raked your nails down his sweat slicked back, and all you could do was sob as it consumed you, cries of overwhelming pleasure as you came around him.
Feeling you pulse and clamp around him sent Noah over the edge too, with a guttural groan muffled against your shoulder, driving himself into you one last time, he was buried balls deep as he came.
He collapsed onto you for a moment, the two of you panting, trying to catch your breath. The room now smelled like sex, a little sweaty, salty, musky. His cologne and your perfume mixing together as your bodies stayed stuck together.
He slowly softened inside you, but made no move to pull out just yet. He lifted his head slightly to look down at you, and pressed a surprisingly gentle kiss to your trembling lips before carefully shifting his weight off and pulling out.
You flinched slightly at the sensation, and now everything felt hypersensitive. The cool air felt like a burn to your exposed core as a messy mixture of his release and yours trickled out of you and onto the already ruined sheets.
Noah watched, his lips parted slightly as his hand caressed your thigh, keeping you open for him. He leaned down a little, and you felt his warm breath ghosting over you again.
“Noah what are you-”
“Gotta clean my mess up.” He said through a wrecked smirk, but the moment his tongue swiped through the mess between your thighs, you gasped, your legs trying to clamp shut as you smacked at his shoulder, but when that didn’t stop him, you grabbed a fistful of his hair, tugging at it in protest.
“Ahh! No, no, no… too much, Noah…!!” You whimpered weakly, tugging at his hair again until he looked up at you.
He froze immediately, watching up at you with concern in his features. Instead of insisting or teasing again, he simply pressed a soft kiss to your trembling lower belly.
“Okay,” he whispered against your skin, his voice surprisingly soft, “Okay…” He kissed that same spot again, just below your navel before pushing himself back up, and coming to lay beside you.
He pulled you into his side, pressing gentle, soft kisses over any spot of skin he could find.
How the fuck were you not supposed to catch feelings when you two act like this?
“I’m sorry if I was too rough or-”
“No, you were perfect… I don’t think I’ve ever came so hard.” You say through blushing cheeks as you tilt your head to look at him.
Then, just as he leaned in to press a kiss to your lips, his phone rang.
He frowned, reaching over on to the nightstand for it.
“...It’s your uncle?”
Your brows furrowed as he answered.
“Hey-”
“Where the hell are you? Noah, have you forgotten we still open on Saturdays? It’s almost 9am!!”
“SHIT!!” You gasped, your eyes widening. You had completely forgotten you still had work today, you didn’t plan on coming home with Noah after the party, and you certainly didn’t plan on staying.
“...Was that y/n? She’s not in either but I know she said she was going out last night… are you two? Did you two-”
“No!!” You gasped, “No! Steve, I’m… I just stopped by Noah’s place on my way in! I came over to get his ass out of bed.”
Noah turned his head, giving you a filthy smirk.
“More like taking my ass to bed-”
“We’ll be there in 20.” You said, before reaching over to press the red hang up button on his phone.
“I think he knows, babe.” Noah chuckled, giving you a lazy, fucked out smirk.
“No he doesn’t! There’s nothing to know!”
“Mmhm,” he patted your thigh, “Keep telling yourself that… hey, do you want a coffee or.. take a shower or something? I don’t care how I look at that place but-”
“Uh…” You sat up straight, pulling your top down, covering your bra again and pulling his sheets back up so it at least covered you up to your waist. “Do you think we could leave now, you could drop me home so I can quickly get changed then maybe we could get a coffee before going in?”
He smiled, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
“Sounds perfect to me.”
…
“We’re definitely getting fired.” You said as you took a sip of coffee, sinking into his passenger seat.
“Hey, Steve likes me too much to fire me… you on the other hand.”
“Shut up!” You swatted at his arm, despite the smile creeping on to your lips.
When you pulled up to the garage, you took a deep breath. You’d never been late before, that’s one thing you were so proud of, but now you were walking in 20 minutes late, limping slightly thanks to the guy by your side.
“There you two are!” Steve called, rolling out from under the car he was working on. “I almost had to call the police, y/n’s never been late before!”
“Well, blame him.” You said, shooting Noah a playful glare.
“Yeah… my bad.” Noah said, “It’s reallt hard to get out of bed when there’s a pretty girl laying with me.”
You scoffed, shaking your head, trying to play it off as if he wasn’t talking about you…
“Hey, y/n, don’t start getting jealous!” Your uncle laughed, and you and Noah both shared a look.
“I’ve got work to do!” You said, before rushing away into your office, shutting the door behind you with a long sigh.
What. The. Fuck.
As you sat down at your desk, your brain finally had time to process what had happened- both last night and this morning. You and Noah had finally agreed to being friends with benefits… but scarily it felt like you were more than that. Because you always thought that being friends with benefits with someone meant that you didn’t have feelings for them, it was just for fun. Just sex.
Shit. You worried that this might not be as easy as you hoped.
Still, you got on with your day. Saturdays were usually pretty easy, or the mornings were at least. Sometimes it’d get a little busy in the afternoon, but you didn’t really notice today. Because your mind was somewhere else the entire shift.
You needed to talk to Maya. She was always the most logical friend, where Jess would encourage all your bad decisions, Maya was your voice of reason. You needed to tell her about your situation with Noah, and how you feared you wouldn’t be able to keep up the “just friends” act.
So on your break, Noah let you sit in his car whilst your uncle took an important call in the office, and you made your own important call to Maya.
ring ring.. ring ring..
“Hey, sorry I can’t answer your call right now! Leave a message and I’ll get back to you!”
Voicemail? That’s weird. Her phone is literally always glued to her hand...
You didn’t leave a message, you just hung up. And called Jess instead.
And of course, she picked up on the second ring.
“Hi!” She beamed through the phone. “Is everything okay?”
“Uh, yeah-”
“Good, okay so I’ll cut to it- did you and Noah leave together last night?” You could practically hear the grin in her voice.
“Maybe…” You couldn’t help the smile creeping up on your lips.
“Eee!” She squealed, “I noticed the two of you disappeared! So… what happened? Did he just drop you back or…?”
“Well… I might’ve gone back to his place.”
“YOU DID?!”
You couldn’t help but blush as you thought back on it all, and for once it didn’t make you feel stupid.
“Yeah… turns out it was Noah’s birthday so I might’ve stayed the night…”
For a moment, Jess was quiet, just long enough to make you feel suspicious- but then she chirped back up again.
“Wait. You stayed at his place on his birthday… did the two of you-”
“Yep.” You could feel your cheeks hurting from how hard you were grinning, “But I was kinda tired last night so we just kissed, but oh my god, Jess. This morning…!”
“Morning sex?” She giggled, “You lucky bitch!”
“But we kinda forgot it was Saturday today so it made us pretty late for work. Anyway, we talked last night about the whole… situation. And I can finally say that now we're officially friends with benefits.”
“FINALLY!!” Jess gasped, far too dramatically, “Oh my god, I’ve been waiting for you to tell me this!! How do you feel? How does he feel? Wait no, tell me how you feel first..”
You stared out the window for a moment, chewing the inside of your cheek.
“I… don’t know,” you admitted truthfully, “It’s supposed to just be fun, that’s what we agreed on. No strings. But, Jess, the way he kissed me last night, and this morning… It’s like…”
Like he meant it. Like it wasn’t casual at all.
“Like he’s used to that shit?” Jess scoffed, her attitude suddenly shifting confusingly quick. “He hooks up with tons of girls, don’t overthink it. And please don't catch feelings.”
Weird. She’s the one who encouraged this all along.
“Right…” You nodded slowly, slumping further into your seat. “Oh, I tried calling Maya just now but she didn’t answer, I wanted her opinion on it, on what I should do, but she didn’t answer. Do you know if everything’s okay?”
Jess was silent.
“...Jess?”
“Yeah!”
“...You hesitated.”
“No I didn’t!” She tried to play it off.
“Yes you did. Has something happened?”
Jess let out a slow, slightly uncomfortable sigh.
“We uh… might’ve had an argument this morning.”
Your eyebrows shot up.
“You and Maya? About what? You guys have never argued before!”
“I know,” Jess groaned, “Look, it wasn’t a big deal. She just told me something then I snapped and it got messy!”
“What did you both say?”
“I don’t wanna get into it.” She said a little too quickly, “It was something small, something stupid. She’ll call you back though, she's probably still sulking, don’t worry.”
“Jess.”
“What?”
“...You’re acting weird.”
“I’m hungover!” She groaned, “Seriously, don’t think about it too much… get back to the fun stuff! Noah, naked, the-morning-after-his-birthday sex…”
You rolled your eyes and tried to forget about what she had just told you, and told her about your night- and morning- instead. But in the back of your mind, it lingered.
Jess was never one to start an argument, and with Maya of all people?
Something really must’ve gone wrong…
…
The setting sun cast orange rays through your office window, blinding you. Squinting against the light, you closed the blinds for the day, glancing over at the clock.
Home time! Finally.
Except you couldn’t go home… or at least not by yourself. Because you didn’t have your car, and you were too tired to walk. So you picked up your bag and walked through to the garage.
Noah was putting all his tools away, running a hand through his messy hair, but he looked up the second he heard your footsteps.
“Wanna ride?” He asked, a smirk plastered on his face. “Home, I mean. You already rode me this morn-”
“Noah!” You hissed, glancing over at your uncle from the corner of your eye, but he was too busy to be listening in on the two of you.
“Sorry, babe.” He chuckled, and you handed his car keys over to him and followed him out towards his car, saying goodbye to your uncle on your way out.
“Thanks again for letting me sit in here on my break.” You said as you climbed into the passenger seat.
“No problem,” he smiled, turning the keys in the engine, “So, who did you call? Jess? Maya? You got any new gossip for me?”
“Yeah, actually.” You said, turning to face him, “Jess and Maya had an argument…”
He froze for a second, just long enough for you to notice it if you hadn’t been staring at how his fingers looked wrapped around the wheel.
“Oh,” he said, trying to sound casual, “What about?”
“She wouldn’t tell me,” you sighed, “But Maya not answering her phone?... that’s not normal. She’s not like that. Something feels really off.”
Noah swallowed hard.
“I’m sure it’s nothing.”
“Maybe.” You frowned, your head leaning against the window, “But they never argue. And Jess said she was being weird…”
“I’m sure they’ll work it out,” Noah said, his jaw tensing for a moment before he forced it loose, “Don’t worry about it, sweetheart.”
Sweetheart. That word shouldn’t make your stomach flip the way it does.
Before you could respond, or say anything at all, Noah’s phone buzzed in the cup holder. Once, then twice, then three times.
You didn’t look at it directly, but you saw the way the screen lit up. And you knew what kind of guy he was, and what the messages would most likely say- some variant of flirty message followed by are you free tonight? from other girls who wanted him.
And of course they did. Look at him.
You hated the way it made you feel when you thought about it. You’d never admit to being jealous… but you were. You 100% were. You’d just never confess to it out loud.
But the feeling had been eating away at you all day ever since Jess said he hooks up with tons of girls, don’t overthink it. Because the way he treated you last night, the way he treated you this morning… the way he’s always been with you… you couldn’t imagine him treating every hookup like that.
His phone buzzed again, and this time his eyes darted towards it. He reached a hand out and quickly put it on silent before putting it back.
Your heart ached.
Because how the fuck were you supposed to keep this casual when he treats you like you mean the world to him.
You stayed quiet for the rest of the drive home, and Noah noticed. He kept glancing over, trying to read your mind, trying to work out what you were thinking and feeling… but he couldn’t. So he asked,
“Are you okay?”
You took a deep breath in.
“Yeah. I just… well, there’s something I want to talk about.”
“...Okay.” He said, a little hesitantly.
“I don’t know how to say this without sounding.. I dunno, stupid and clingy?... but if we’re gonna keep doing this whole friends with benefits thing…”
Noah gave you a little nod as if to say he’s listening.
“I was wondering if maybe… fuck it sounds so stupid. I... No. No! Pretend I never said anything.”
Noah’s brows knitted together as he glanced over at you.
“Hey,” he frowned, “If there’s something you want to ask, just ask. It’s not stupid, babe. I want you to be happy, and if there’s something you have to say, then just say it.”
You let out a long exhale, before giving him a short nod.
“...I was thinking... I don’t want you sleeping with anybody else.”
Noah’s eyes widened. He wasn’t expecting you to say that.
“...You don’t?” He asked.
“No,” you shook your head, “I want to be the only one from now on… if you’re okay with that.”
The silence between you felt too heavy, and too long. But you watched a little smirk spread across his face, you saw the way he licked his lips, slow, like he was thinking, processing, and maybe a little surprised.
“Sounds like you wanna be my girlfriend.” He teased, "Are you just jealous?"
“No!” You glared at him.
“It’s okay,” he said, “I kinda like it.”
You rolled your eyes, but couldn’t ignore the way your cheeks burned.
“I’m serious, Noah. If you want this with me… I want it to only be me. It probably sounds stupid and selfish of me but… I don’t want to be just another one of the girls texting you.”
Noah let out a small sigh, then he reached over, resting his hand over your thigh, his thumb brushing over your leggings.
“You are not just another one of the girls,” he said, “And if it matters to you, if that’s what you want… then I’m not seeing anyone else.”
“You’re not?” You whispered, a little taken back.
“No,” He said honestly and firmly. “I don’t want to.”
Your heart fluttered.
“But that means,” he added, his tone playful, “You can’t sleep with anyone else either.”
“I wasn’t planning to.” You scoffed.
“Good.” He smirked, his eyes back on the road, “But… I should warn you...”
“Warn me about what?” You asked, your brows drawn together.
He glanced at you from the corner of his eye, that stupid confident glint in them that told you he knew exactly what he was doing to you.
“I’ve got a lot of needs…”
You blushed so hard you almost felt a little light headed.
“Fuck off Noah-”
“So, if I’m down to one girl,” he hummed, leaning back in his seat with a satisfied little smirk, “You should probably prepare yourself.”
Your jaw dropped.
“You’re such a sick-”
“I’m just kidding!” He laughed, before adding, “Kinda.”
You sighed, shaking your head as you glanced back towards the window.
He was silent for a moment, you both were, until he tapped your thigh gently.
“Hey,” he said, and you turned your head back to him, “If this is just us now… I’m good with that. More than good.”
Before you had a chance to say anything else, he pulled up outside your house. And weirdly, for the first time ever, you wished the drive was longer.
“Thanks for the ride.” You said as you reached for your bag.
“You’re welcome.” He said with a soft smile, “Uh… so I’m busy tonight, but I was wondering tomorrow… can I see you? Maybe we could go for dinner or watch a movie… or both? I don’t really care, I just… wanna see you.”
He almost sounded nervous.
“Sure.” You said, not even bothering to hide the grin on your face. “See you tomorrow.”
His eyes softened the way they always did around you as you reached for the door, getting out and stepping onto the curb. You gave him a little wave as you walked up to your door, and he waved back.
Only once the front door shut behind you, did he exhale, sit back and finally reach for the phone he’d been ignoring the entire drive.
It was flooded with messages.
All from one person.
You said you were sick Noah??
Are you fucking serious?
I can’t believe you’d seriously cancel plans with me to spend your birthday with her???
You know she doesn't even like you, right???
What the hell is wrong with you
You know how I feel about you
This isn’t fair
ANSWER ME
DONT IGNORE ME WTF
NOAH SEBASTIAN DAVIS!!
He dragged a hand over his face, letting out a long sigh before cursing under his breath. He hadn’t even thought about her last night, not even once, because he’d been too busy with you. Busy laughing with you, kissing you, holding you, waking up tangled up with you…
Fuck, when he was with you it was like the rest of the world didn’t matter, it didn’t exist.
But now he was in the middle of a mess he wasn’t sure how to get out of.
Because he didn’t care about her. But he cared about you. He didn’t ever listen to the crap she had to say, but he always listened to you.
And he knew from the moment you told him that Jess and Maya had an argument, that the secret had gotten out.
That Jess found out that Maya and Noah had been hooking up.

“Home sweet home.” Noah smiled as he pulled up to his driveway, parking up and taking his keys from the ignition, “I know it’s not much, but it’s got four walls and a fridge full of beer, so…”
You laughed softly, shaking your head as you got out of the car.
“I wasn’t expecting you to live in a palace, Noah.”
He led you inside, unlocking the door and pushing it open with his shoulder. He switched a couple lights on, and you found yourself smiling at the place. It was quite homely, especially for somewhere owned by a few 20-something year old guys. The walls were a cream colour, and as you walked in the living room was to the left, the kitchen to the right. There was a dark brown leather couch and a tv on the wall. There were controllers, papers, pens and and notebooks scattered across the coffee table, guitars leaning against the wall beneath the window.
Noah glanced at you over his shoulder. Usually, he had no issue bringing a girl home just to take her to bed, but with you he felt almost nervous? He leaned against the counter, arms crossed over his chest as he smiled over at you, watching you take in the sight of his home.
“Wow,” you said as you stepped in further, “It’s actually… nice.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” He teased, setting his keys down on the counter.
“I mean, you said you live with your friends, who Im guessing are guys… it’s not what I imagined. I like it, it’s very… lived in.”
“Yeah, that’s the polite way to say messy.” He smirked.
But even as he joked, he couldn’t help but still watch you and the way you looked around, curious but comfortable. He watched you reach out and brush your fingers gently along one of his guitars.
Usually, this was the point where Noah would make some stupid comment, tug a girl closer and let things go where they always went. But with you, the thought of that made his chest feel heavy. He didn’t want to take you home and fuck you like you were just any other hookup, even if that’s what you came here for.
You turned back to look at him, a little smile forming on your lips, one that had been driving him insane for weeks.
“So… what now?” You asked, your voice low and teasing, almost seductive.
This is where Noah realised how easy it would be to close the distance, to touch you, kiss you… but instead, he cleared his throat.
“Uh,” he said, scratching the back of his neck, “You eaten yet?”
Even he was taken back by his restraint. He had the girl he’d been chasing for the last couple months in his own home, right in front of him, he had the chance to take you to bed, to do everything he’d been fantasising about for weeks… but he wasn’t taking it.
“What?” You asked, your brows furrowing as a confused smile spread across your face.
He laughed under his breath, suddenly aware of how ridiculous that sounded.
“It’s just because I’m pretty hungry, I was thinking of ordering a pizza.”
You raised an eyebrow, giggling to yourself as a thought crossed your mind. You could eat me.
“Pizza? On your birthday? Shouldn’t I be the one ordering for you?”
He shrugged, pulling out his phone with a smirk tugging at his lips.
“Exactly, it’s my birthday. I get to do what I want.”
You folded your arms with a playful smile.
“And you want to order pizza?”
He glanced up from the screen.
“Yup!”
You laughed softly, shaking your head.
“You really are easy to please, huh?”
“Depends on who you’re asking, babe.” He grinned, “Okay so should I just get a large one to share?”
You nodded, wandering around the living room, inspecting the dvds on the shelf.
“Yeah, sure.” You smiled, before sitting down on the couch, shifting a little uncomfortably- which of course, Noah noticed.
You watched him tilt his head, looking you up down, his brows furrowing slightly.
“What?” You asked, raising a brow.
“Nothing,” he smirked, “It’s just… that doesn’t exactly look comfortable.”
“It’s your couch.” You scoffed.
“No, I mean the costume.” He chuckled, “You can go up and get changed- steal something from my closet if you want.”
You looked at him, your lips curling into a little mischievous smile.
“It’s quite comfy actually.” You said, “Think I might keep it on all night.”
Maybe for you, he thought, but it’s making my pants feel painfully tight.
“Look,” he said, biting back a grin, “I’m trying to be a gentleman about it, but your tits are spilling out of that top and if I-”
“Ew! Noah!” You groaned, your arm quickly raising to cover your chest.
“What?” He laughed, watching you stand up with a fake scowl on your face and make your way over to the stairs, “My room's the first door on the right, babe.”
You rolled your eyes as you wandered up the stairs, finding the first door on the right. You noticed it was already half open so you gently pushed it and stepped inside, switching the light on.
To your surprise, his room was tidy. It wasn’t spotless, but neither was yours. There were a couple framed tour photos on the wall by his desk, pictures of him and his band, along with lanyards with the bold letters VIP or ALL ACCESS on it. His desk seemed like quite an organised mess, a few beer cans, empty mugs, notebooks.
You smiled to yourself. It was exactly how you’d imagine his bedroom.
Turning to his closet, you pulled one of the doors open, and were immediately hit by the scent of his cologne- a smell you were growing to love. There were a bunch of hoodies hung inside, mostly black or grey, but some white, red and… even a yellow one? You reached for the one that looked the softest, tugging it off the hanger and shimmying out of your costume before slipping it over your head. Given the length of your skirt tonight, you had pulled on a pair of black shorts before leaving your place, so you weren’t feeling too exposed.
You tugged at the hem of the hoodie, making sure it was covering as much as possible, before turning to leave… but then just before you made it to his bedroom door… you spotted something on his nightstand.
Another notebook.
This one was open, a pen laid resting on top of it, it’s pages had clearly been a little water damaged, or maybe it was just old- but they were still covered in his messy handwriting.
You hesitated for a moment, knowing it was snooping- it could be something super personal, or it could be a grocery list? Either way, curiosity got the better of you. You stepped a little closer, your fingertips brushing the edge of the page.
The words looked like they’d been scribbled down quickly, and the ink slightly smudged like he’d written it in a rush.
Oh I can’t leave, but I can’t be in this place
This must all be an illusion skipping frames
Years of living with a cold and empty space, and it haunts me every time I think I’m safe
Your brow furrowed as you read the words. You had listened to the few songs Bad Omens put out already, and this wasn’t one you recognised.
You turned the page, and were immediately devastated by how raw the words written were.
Was I not good enough? Worthy of being loved? Were you ashamed or just afraid?
Well, when I’ve given up and all is said and done will you just look the other way?
You bit your lip. Noah wrote this? The guy who teased you endlessly, who seemed to never take anything seriously, was writing like this?
You turned to the next page.
Their echoes sit alone in a prison made of bone
Oh I hate it, but it’s home for me
In every place I’m on my toes, and still I feel like I impose
It’s okay to let me go if you need.
And the next page
If I could make it simpler, if I could go back to the start
I would keep you even closer so that I could hear your heart
But your pulse has started fading, I'll try to hold on to the sound
I know it's over, please be over, cause I'll just let you down.
You stared at the words for a long time, and the more you read, the more it hit you. You swallowed hard. This was him. This was the real him. The loneliness, the pain, the question of whether anyone truly wanted him, whether he was truly worthy of being loved.
You could almost relate to it in a way…
Either way, you tried to push it back. You tried not to think about it as you switched the light back off and made your way down the stairs.
When you walked back into the living room, Noah was sat on the couch, tv remote in his hand as he scrolled through the channels. He turned his head when the floorboard creaked beneath you, and a smirk immediately tugged at his lips.
“Well, well,” he grinned, his eyes scanning over you from head to toe, “You found the softest one, huh?”
“It is pretty comfy.” You smirked, pretending the words you just read weren’t still lingering in your mind.
“Pizza’s gonna be here in twenty,” he said, “You want a drink whilst we wait? There’s uh…” He pulled a face, trying to think, but you cut him off.
“Water?”
“Water.” He nodded, pushing himself off the couch and strolling over to the kitchen.
You sank down onto the couch in his absence, pulling the sleeves of his hoodie over your hands, trying not to let what you read in his room play on your mind too much. But it was impossible. It was all you could think about.
…
Twenty minutes later, the knock at the door made you both jump.
“That’ll be the pizza,” Noah said, pushing himself up from the couch. He grabbed his wallet off the counter and disappeared into the hallway.
A moment later, he came back holding the pizza box in his hands, before setting it down on the coffee table.
He sat back down beside you again and flipped the lid open, the smell of melted cheese and pizza dough filling the room.
Your stomach growled embarrassingly loud.
“Hungry?” He grinned, handing you a slice.
“Maybe a little.” You took it, trying not to look as flustered as you felt.
For a few moments, the only sound in the room was the tv as you both ate. Noah had picked a movie, you let him choose, given it’s his birthday. Every so often, you’d catch him looking at you, and he’d catch you looking right back. Strangely, the usual tension between you wasn’t here tonight. You weren’t annoyed by his presence, in fact you found yourself to be enjoying it.
He leaned back, sighing contently before taking a bite of his final slice.
“Not bad for a birthday dinner.” He said, smirking at you with playful eyes.
You looked up at him, a small smile tugging at your lips.
“You saying that because I’m here, or because of the pizza?”
“Both.”
You rolled your eyes, but your heart fluttered anyway. You hated that he could do that to you with just one word.
The more you sat there, though, the more something at the back of your mind started to creep forwards- the fact that if you hadn’t asked him to go to Sam’s party with you, if you hadn’t come home with him tonight, he would’ve been sitting here alone. No friends, no party, no cake. Just him, a beer, and the same four walls.
You finished your last bite and wiped your fingers off on a napkin.
“So,” you said softly, “Did you do anything earlier today? For your birthday, I mean.”
He shrugged, trying to play it off casual.
“Nah. Just wrote a little after work, played guitar. Same as always, really.”
That hurt a little more than you expected it to.
“So… no one came by? Not even any other girls?”
“Nope. Didn’t need anyone to.” He said simply.
You studied his face in the dim light of the living room lamp, you saw the way he looked at you, like he didn’t even realise what a good guy he actually was. You’d totally misjudged him when you first met him, written him off as cocky, arrogant, insufferable. But right now, sitting here eating pizza on his birthday, he felt like someone completely different. Someone you actually liked being around. You wondered if he just put on an act most of the time, because you keep seeing a different side to him.
You took a long sip of water to stop you from grinning to yourself as you came up with a plan.
“Noah… what would you say if I asked to borrow your car?”
He raised an eyebrow.
“My car?”
“Yeah.” You said casually, trying not to grin too wide.
He laughed, shaking his head.
“What for? You planning your grand escape?”
“Maybe.” You leaned back against the couch, mirroring his earlier posture, trying to sound nonchalant. “Or maybe I’m doing something nice for you for once...”
“Oh, babe,” he laughed, “Now that I’ve gotta see.”
You grinned at him, pushing yourself up from the couch.
“Keys are on the kitchen counter!” Noah called out as you spotted them.
You snatched the keys and slipped your shoes on before turning back to look at him, your hand already on the front door handle.
“I’ll be back in a bit.” You called out over your shoulder.
“Do you need me to come with?” He asked, looking up from his phone screen.
“Nope, stay right there. You’re not allowed to move from that couch until I’m back.”
He raised an eyebrow in suspicion, but you were gone before he could ask another question.
You walked across the driveway to his car, shivering a little as your bare legs met the leather seat when you sat down in the drivers seat-
Jesus. How far back does he need the seat to be?
“Seriously, Noah?” You groaned under your breath as you reached down for the lever to pull the seat forwards, “How fucking long are you?”
Finally, after a moment of adjusting, your feet could reach the pedals. Then, you looked up and adjusted the rearview mirror, which was currently reflecting the very top of the back seats and not the road.
You grumbled something under your breath again as you adjusted it properly, then finally you could see.
As you lifted the keys to put them into the ignition, you caught yourself smiling, imagining him driving. One hand on the wheel, music obnoxiously loud, windows rolled down-
“Get it together.” You shook your head, turning the key and letting the engine come to life.
You drove in silence to the nearest 24 hour store, which was probably not the best idea, as the lyrics you had read earlier had time to play in your mind again.
Was I not good enough? Worthy of being loved?
You swallowed and reached for the radio, turning the volume up. You didn’t want to think about that right now. Not ever.
The drive wasn’t too long, and before you knew it you were grabbing your phone and bag, heading inside the shop through the automatic doors.
You grabbed a basket on your way in, and made your way towards the bakery section, scanning the nearly empty shelves for something that didn’t look sad, squished, or in the shape of a cartoon character.
Then, you spotted a little cake hidden near the back of the shelf. You reached for it, inspecting it. It was a little circular cake, vanilla with white icing and little piped swirls around the edges, and a cursive Happy Birthday! In the middle. It wasn’t fancy, but neither was Noah let’s be honest. But it was sweet, something to show that you cared, even if it scared you to admit it.
“Perfect.” You smiled to yourself as you set it down gently in your basket.
Next, you scanned the aisles and shelves for candles. There were all different kinds, sparkler candles, coloured flames, gold glittery ones, ones that spelled out happy birthday… but the one that caught your eye was the simple multicoloured pack of skinny candles, the kind that reminded you of your birthdays as a kid.
You tossed them into your basket too, and then wandered towards the cards. This was even harder. Everything was either overly sentimental, or just corny. You looked through them one by one. Happy Birthday Grandpa! or To my beautiful Wife- you chuckled as you contemplated giving him that one, but then one made you grin even wider.
A cartoon egg, smiling wide, giving a thumbs up. The front of the card read Have an Egg-celent Birthday!
Yep. This is the one.
You could picture him opening it, rolling his eyes but smiling anyway.
You made your way to the checkout, and as you unpacked the basket, handing the cashier the items, he smiled at the cake.
“Someone’s birthday?”
“Yeah,” you smiled as you tapped your card on the machine, “It’s for my uh… friend. Nobody else got him a cake so… better late than never, huh?”
“Well, I hope your friend had a great day.” He said with a grin as he handed you the items in a bag.
You thanked him, and walked back out through the doors and sat back down in Noah’s car. You set the plastic bag down on the passenger seat and contemplated something… your house was only a two minute drive away…
Fuck it.
You were in your driveway before you even knew it.
You took the plastic bag and made your way inside, switching the light on and slipping off your shoes. You moved in a rush as you headed into your bedroom.
You didn’t want to be gone from him for too long, the whole point was to surprise him, not to make him wonder where you’d disappeared to. You reached under your bed, pulling out the bag you usually took to Jess or Maya’s house for sleepovers. You threw in a few essential things, phone charger, toothbrush, hairbrush, perfume. Then you grabbed a clean pair of underwear from the drawer… but just as you packed it in your bag, your eye caught on something folded neatly in the corner of the drawer. Something you hadn’t touched since buying.
A lingerie set, one you bought with your friends just because they were getting one too. You knew you’d never have anyone to wear it for, besides yourself… until now.
You hesitated for a moment as you held the lace in your hands. You knew where this night was leading, and the thought of putting on something pretty for Noah to take off made you almost feel a little dizzy.
Before you could stop yourself, you were stripping your clothes off and putting the set on. You glanced at yourself in the mirror, and couldn’t help but bite your lip.
“Okay…” You grinned to yourself before reaching back down for Noah’s hoodie, tugging it back on.
It swallowed you whole, and it was incredibly soft and warm and it smelled like him. Fuck, how the hell did this ever happen? You were supposed to hate him…
Still, you stepped back into your shorts and zipped your bag up, slinging it over your shoulder and turning off the bedroom light.
When you were back in the kitchen, you reached for the plastic bag from earlier, taking out the card. You searched through your drawers for a pen… but when you opened up the card, you weren’t sure what to write in it…
So you just wrote anyway.
Happy birthday idiot.
I know you said you don’t do birthdays, but do you seriously expect me to believe you don’t celebrate a day that’s all about you? Bullshit. I just wanted to say that even if I don’t show it too often, I care about you. More than I probably should
Love y/n <3
Oh fuck. Was the love too much? Would he make fun of you for the heart? You grimaced, shaking your head as you slipped it into the envelope. It’s too late to turn back now.
You tucked the card beside the cake in the bag, switched the lights off, slid your shoes back on and stepped back out again.
You smiled to yourself the whole drive back to his place, and you couldn’t quite tell if the fluttering in your stomach was nerves or excitement? Either way, you were about to make sure Noah had a happy birthday.
…
When you pushed Noah’s front door open, Noah turned his head instantly, his expression shifting from confused to relieved.
“Thank fuck,” he said, exhaling dramatically as he stood up, “I thought you stole my car or something.”
You blinked, caught off guard, then started laughing.
“Why the hell would I steal your car?”
He shrugged, a grin tugging at his lips.
“Because it’s better than yours.”
“Fuck you,” you scoffed, pushing the door closed with your hip, trying to keep your expression neutral even as your heart pounded in your chest. You tightened your grip on the plastic bag dangling from your wrist. “Okay, before you say anything else, shut your eyes.”
“What?”
“Shut them!” You said again, pointing at him like he was a misbehaving dog.
Noah snorted, crossing his arms but doing as he was told.
“You’re very bossy, you know that?”
“Uh huh. But are your eyes closed?”
“Yes, ma’am.” He said, still grinning.
You wandered into the kitchen, trying not to make too much noise. You set the bag on the counter, gently pulling out the cake box and setting it down. The little iced vanilla cake looked even cuter under the soft kitchen light. You unwrapped the candles and carefully stuck them in, counting under your breath.
“Twenty… two? Three?” You whispered under your breath, trying to do the maths. In the end, you just shook your head and stuck all the candles in, before glancing around for a lighter. Your eyes landed on the counter by the sink, next to an empty mug and a bong?
“Classy.” You snorted, shaking your head fondly as you picked up the lighter. You flicked it on, the small flame catching one candle, then the next, and soon the cake glowed with soft, warm light.
You turned off the kitchen light, letting the candles be the only thing illuminating the space. Your chest warmed at the sight of it, it was a small, simple act, but it felt right. Is this what people who were just friends with benefits did…?
“Noah,” you called softly, stepping out of the kitchen, “Okay. Turn this way, but keep your eyes shut.”
He groaned, clearly amused.
“You’re lucky it’s your cute voice telling me to do this, otherwise I’d-”
“Ah! Less talking, more turning.” You interrupted, barely holding back a laugh.
You walked carefully toward him, balancing the cake in both hands, the warm wax smell mixing with the soft scent of his cologne still clinging to his hoodie.
When you stopped in front of him, the soft candlelight flickered against his face.
“Okay,” you said quietly, your voice suddenly softer than you expected. “Open your eyes.”
He blinked them open- and for once, Noah Sebastian didn’t have a single thing to say.
His expression softened immediately, his lips parting just slightly as he looked from you to the cake. The tiny flames reflected in his dark brown eyes. For a few seconds, neither of you said anything.
“Happy birthday.” You said, a soft smile on your face as you looked up at him.
Noah laughed under his breath, that quiet, breathless kind of laugh that sounded more like disbelief.
“You… you actually did this for me?”
You nodded, still smiling.
“Yeah. I mean, I couldn’t just let you not have cake on your birthday.”
He shook his head slowly, eyes still on you.
“You’re unbelievable, y/n.”
“...Is that good or bad?”
“Definitely good.” He smiled.
“Well then,” you said, nodding toward the candles, “Make a wish and blow ‘em out, birthday boy.”
He stared at the cake for a moment, quiet. Then his gaze lifted back up to you.
“Oh, baby, my wish already came true.”
You rolled your eyes, but your cheeks turned red anyway.
“You’re such an idiot.”
“Yep. Just for you, babe.” He said with a grin, before leaning in and blowing out the candles. The flames disappeared in a soft puff of smoke.
You set the cake down on the coffee table as he straightened up again, still looking a little dazed.
“Alright,” you said, quickly retrieving a knife from the kitchen, “You wanna cut it?”
He looked down at the cake again, and then back up at you with a teasing glint in his eye.
“You bought it, you should do the honours.”
“Fine,” you said, pretending to sigh as you leaned down and carefully sliced into the cake. You cut two neat slices and he passed you a couple plates to put them on. You handed one to him, before taking your own and settling beside him on the couch.
For a few quiet seconds, you both just ate. The tv still played in the background, but neither of you were really watching. The cake was a little too sweet, but somehow it tasted better because you noticed the way he was smiling every time he looked down at it.
“So…” you said, swallowing your bite. “Not bad for a store bought cake, huh? If you would’ve told me it was your birthday I could’ve made one-“
He shook his head, his mouth still full.
“It’s perfect,” he said, glancing at you again. “You didn’t have to do any of this, you know.”
You shrugged, trying to play it off even though your chest felt tight.
“I know. But if I hadn’t, you’d probably be here alone with your beer and your guitar, pretending it was just any other day.”
He chuckled softly, but his expression softened, and for a moment he didn’t look like the cocky, smirking version of himself you’d grown used to. He just looked grateful.
“Yeah, well… I’m really glad you’re here with me.”
The words lingered between you longer than you expected. You looked down quickly, pretending to focus on your cake again.
“Oh!” You said suddenly, reaching for the envelope on the coffee table, “Before I forget. Here.”
You handed him the birthday card. He blinked, surprised.
“You even got me a card?”
“Don’t get too excited.” You chuckled.
He opened it anyway, and you watched the corners of his mouth twitch upward when he saw the ridiculous cartoon egg giving a thumbs up.
“Have an egg-celent birthday,” he read aloud, laughing under his breath. “Wow. So heartfelt.”
“Look inside, smartass.”
He did, and when his eyes read over your words, his grin faltered just a little. Not because he didn’t like it, but because it hit him in a way he didn’t expect it to.
He looked up at you, his voice a little softer now.
“You care about me, huh?”
You smirked.
“Don’t make it weird. I'll take it back.”
He laughed and leaned over to bump your shoulder with his.
“Too late. I’m keeping this one forever.”
You smiled, trying not to show just how much that meant to you. You hadn't realised until right now just how nice this was, just to be sitting here with him, it almost didn't feel like you were with Noah. You hadn't realised just how much you liked this version of him, the real him.
Maybe that’s why it hit you a little when you caught yourself yawning, because it wasn't down to boredom. Maybe it had something to do with the fact you've been awake for over 18 hours. You tried to play it off, rubbing your eyes quickly and sitting up straighter.
“God, I’m not even tired.”
He smirked, not buying it for a second.
“Mm. Sure you’re not.”
“I’m serious,” you said, trying to sound convincing even as another yawn snuck out. “I’m… I just…”
“Babe,” he interrupted, his voice low and calm, the way it got when he wasn’t teasing. “Do you wanna go upstairs? You’re okay to share a bed with me again, right?”
You blinked at him, suddenly flustered.
“I- I mean, yeah, of course, but…” you caught yourself, biting your lip, “I kinda wanted to stay up a little longer...”
His brows lifted.
“Oh yeah? Why’s that?”
You hesitated, your lips parting but you couldn't exactly tell him the truth.
“There’s, uh… something I wanted to show you.”
He chuckled softly, but there was a knowing gentleness behind it, still no sign of teasing.
“I’m sure it can wait for the morning.”
You frowned.
“It’s your birthday! I know that we did what we did in Sam’s bathroom, but I thought we’d-”
Noah shook his head.
“Nope. Not tonight, babe. You’re exhausted.”
“You don’t want to?” You frowned.
“Oh, trust me I want to. But not when you’re tired, okay?... You’d never be able to keep up with my stamina.” He smirked.
You groaned quietly, giving him a dramatic pout.
“You’re no fun.”
“Oh, baby, I’m a lot of fun,” he said, reaching for your empty plate and taking it with him into the kitchen, “But not when you're struggling to keep your eyes open.”
You sighed, wanting to protest, but you gave in when he offered you his hand.
“C’mon,” he said softly. “Let’s go to bed. Is that your bag by the door?”
You nodded. As much as you wanted to stay up and make his night a little more memorable, you were feeling pretty tired, so you slipped your hand into his and let him lead you up the stairs.
You followed him into his bedroom, and watched as he tugged his shirt off, setting the wooden rosary down on his nightstand, on top of that notebook.
“I’ll get changed in the bathroom,” he said as he reached for a clean pair of sweats, “You can change in here if you want?”
You smiled, giving him a soft nod.
“Okay… thanks.” You said before watching him leave.
When you heard the bathroom door click shut behind him, you reached for your bag- which he had carefully set down on the bed. You grabbed the things you needed out from there- your toothbrush and pyjamas.
You tugged his hoodie off over your head, folding it neatly over his chair before reaching for your tank top. You caught your reflection in the mirror before you pulled the top on, feeling a little silly for the lingerie now. But you kept it on just in case…
After changing into your sleep shorts, you took your toothbrush and knocked on the bathroom door.
“You can come in.” He called, and as you stepped in you noticed how Noah had changed into a pair of grey sweats that hung deliciously low on his hips. “You good?” He asked, and you watched as he rubbed some kind of cream into his face. He was into skincare?
“Yep.” You smiled.
Then, the two of you started to brush your teeth together in silence. Every now and then, he’d bump into you purposely, and you’d try not to blush when your eyes would meet his through the mirror.
When you leaned forward to spit and rinse your mouth, Noah glanced over and froze for a second. Under the bright bathroom light, your top appeared a little sheer, and your black lace bra was visible through the fabric. He looked away quickly, pretending to focus on his reflection and not how he almost choked on his toothbrush.
“Are you okay?” You chuckled, looking up at him through the mirror.
“Of course!” He said through the foam, eyes definitely not on you. Maybe this was the surprise you had for him? Maybe that’s why you were let down when he said no.
For any other girl, he wouldn’t really care… but you were you. If you were tired, all he wanted you to do in bed was to sleep.
“C’mon.” Noah said, putting his toothbrush back in the holder and wiping at his mouth, “Bedtime.”
You followed behind him back into the bedroom, the air between you suddenly feeling a little softer. He lingered near the edge of the bed for a moment, glancing from you to the pillows.
“Uh, what side of the bed d’you wanna take?”
“I don’t mind.” You said with a shrug, before glancing back at him.
When he didn’t say anything else, you huffed and pulled back the covers and got in, shuffling over to where the bed was pushed up against the wall. His sheets were soft and smelled like him. He smiled down at you as he got in beside you, the bed creaking slightly as he shifted.
He reached for the lamp, turning the light off and letting the room fall into darkness. For a moment, neither of you said anything. You wondered if he was just tired and wanted to sleep, so you didn’t say anything. You just laid on your back, looking up at his ceiling… but then you turned on to your side, facing him.
“Noah?”
“Hm?”
“I’m kinda cold…”
He let out a soft, sleepy laugh.
“Oh yeah?”
“Mhm…” You hummed, smiling into the dark.
You heard the sheets rustle, and Noah shuffled closer. You shuffled closer at the same time, and before you knew it, he had his arm around you, and you were tucked into his side.
“Better?” He asked.
You nodded your head against him, humming a soft confirmation. For a while you stayed like this, the both of you tired, but not yet asleep. You felt his thumb trace circles against your skin whilst your hand pressed flat against his bare chest, feeling the gentle beat of his heart beneath your palm.
You tilted your head up a little to look at him, though you could barely make out his outline in the dark. Your lips brushed the skin of his shoulder, and without really thinking too much, you pressed a soft little kiss there.
He froze for a moment, turning his head down to look at you, his voice barely above a whisper.
“Was that a kiss?”
“Hm,” you hummed, smiling against his skin, “Maybe.”
He chuckled quietly, then you felt his hand cup your cheek, guiding you gently so you were facing him. Then, he leaned down and kissed your forehead first, then the bridge of your nose, then finally, your lips. It was all so soft, so unhurried. He pulled back, only to kiss you again, then again, then again, both of you smiling against each other's lips.
“We should really go to sleep.” He said before giving you another kiss.
“I know.” You said through a sleepy grin, your legs tangling together under the sheets.
“Y’know, I've been thinking,” he said, his hand coming back to rest on your waist again. “This might just be the best birthday I've ever had.”
