"why would i want to look anywhere else?"
"piper, piper, piper. what am i going to do with you?"
"well, if we manage to pull all this off without getting caught, maybe i could come along some other time?" she's already made a less than stellar impression after her outburst at the party, so what's a little more trouble? but maybe moon won't want to spend time with her just the two of them.
she stops when she does, pulling kavi a little closer without really meaning to as a result. she looks to him at the question and considers her options. "the greenhouse sounds nice," she answers, looking back to moon. "where do you want me for lookout?"
"i think you can come along any time. kavi's invite remains to be determined," she says, flashing her brother a quick grin. he rolls his eyes at her antics. "i think you can wait here and if anyone who isn't staff tries to go through the door, just start distracting them. i'm gonna head over to the wine cellar. kavi, you know where to find the good food. then we make our separate ways to the greenhouse?"
kavi nods his agreement and gives roisin's hand another squeeze. he doesn't really want to let go of it, even to separate for these shenanigans. what if she doesn't want to hold it again when he comes back? "i think we can get to the greenhouse without getting lost. you ready?" he asks roisin, as moon is already slipping down the hallway.
she smiles, happy that there’s at least one other family member she seems to have made a decent impression on, even if this was absolutely not how she wanted to make it. she nods at her instructions. she can definitely do distractions. it won’t be hard to play dumb and lost if she needs to. she thinks she’ll be able to make it to the greenhouse, she’s at least seen it on a few of her strolls around the grounds, but one of those times did require a cousin helping her get back.
she watches moon slip down the hallway before looking over at kavi. she gives his hand a squeeze in return and nods at him. “i’m ready. i’ll be here for any distractions,” she assures him. she knows she needs to let go, but she doesn’t want to, which seems so ridiculous to her. “you ready?”

moon answers, "a little of both? nari's too busy being responsible. someone," and this is accompanied by a pointed look at kavi, "is too busy helping her be responsible. and sun is too anxious to have fun or be successful at something like this."
she pauses just outside the kitchen door. she can hear some of the staff flitting in and out as they bring food and drinks out to the party, but she also knowns none of them will interrupt their chaos. "want to meet back at the greenhouse or would you prefer the library?" she asks.
kavi looks to roisin. "either works for me. what sounds more fun to you?"

he reaches for her hand again, and grabs it loosely enough that she can still pull away if she wants. he gives her a small smile as he follows after his sister, and she sneaks them in through one of the side doors that no one is using right now.
"a lookout sounds great," kavi tells her.
"i feel so spoiled. i'm usually left to do all this by myself," moon jokes.
she's surprised when she feels him take her hand again, but it's a good kind of surprise. she closes her hand around his and smiles at him, letting their hands sway between them as they follow moon. it's new and she wishes she hadn't been a crying mess to cause it, but it's also nice. really, really nice.
"no one ever wants to sneak around with you? or would they impede on the sneaking?"
she nods and takes another deep breath, finally starting to calm down a bit. she'll have to find a way to thank his sisters for helping handle this. it shouldn't have been something they had to do, but she's grateful that they would step in. she's caught off guard when kavi reaches out and a soft smile creeps onto her face as she looks up at him. she can't get too caught up in the moment thought, because moon is chiming in again and making her almost laugh. still, she wants to acknowledge the kindness and so she rests her hand on his forearm. she smiles over at moon, hand still resting on kavi. "think we could manage to find some snacks to go with the good wine?"
he's so glad to see that smile on her face, small and subtle as it may be. he hates the thought that she was upset, and that it wasn't not his fault. he's going to have to do something to make it clear than she's important to him. hopefully that will get any overly ambitious nobles to back off.
kavi looks over at moon, and gives her a conspirtorial grin. "i can find the snacks if you find the wine?"
"deal. follow me," she says, giving them a wink, before leading them towards one of the more hidden entrances to the house.
roisin watches the two of them and it’s nice, to see a bit more of the family that she’ll be joining. it still feels so surreal some days and her heart is still heavy, but this is helping. she lets her hand slide down kavi’s arm and gives his hand a gentle squeeze before she lets go to follow after moon. it’s not much, but she hopes it shows at least a little of how appreciative she is. “should i be lookout while you two are finding things?” she asks quietly.
"i don't think too many did, and my sisters will keep them busy, even if they did." he has no idea what they'll do, and he doesn't particularly want to know, if he's being honest with himself.
he's not entirely sure it'll be welcome, but he still reaches out and wipes a tear from her cheek with his thumb. "they're not worth your tears or your time."
"again: assholes," moon agrees. "and no, i think we'll be fine if we don't go back. if you want to, you can. but we could also just go do something better. i know an easy way to sneak into the kitchens, and i know where we keep the good wine."

"i think a lot of our guests were being assholes. nari and sun will handle it. the party will survive without us." she gives roisin a smile. "plus, i'll take any opportunity to get out of a formal event."
he's weirdly glad she came with, so that roisin doesn't have to doubt or second guess what she says, like she might if he said it.
he adds, "none of us have to go back. we could go do something else somewhere else? it's a large palace. there are lots of good places to hide, and i think moon probably knows all of them."
she wipes at her eyes and sniffles, but the tears are still coming. it's sweet that kavi's trying to comfort her, but she worries that this will only make the scene worse. she lets out a startled laugh at moon’s comment and wipes at her eyes again. "they don't need to handle it, there's nothing to handle...did a lot of people notice?" she asks, but she doesn't think she actually wants to hear the answer. she's already so embarrassed. she knows better than to run out of an event like this, but she was so emotional and let it get the better of her. she can't afford to make any more mistakes like this. she can't let down the court. or her family. gods, what would they think if they saw her crying like this? she should be strong enough to handle a few stares. "you don't think it'll be worse if we don't go back?"

roisin feels all the eyes on her as she makes her way to the dance floor with kavi, the way everyone’s watching to see what she’ll do. she stays to the edge of the dance floor, even if she’d love to be right in the mix because she can only imagine what they’re thinking. they’re watching like they think she’ll dance him to death right in front of the entire court, like she’s some monster. because of course they think she’s a monster. they think her father’s a monster, even if she doesn’t think that at all, and that she must be if he is, right? the weight of it starts feeling heavier and heavier and the second the song is done, she’s curtsying to end the dance. “if you’ll excuse me,” she barely manages to get out before scurrying away and out of the room. she needs air. she needs to get out of here. she can feel the tears stinging her eyes as she pushes outside and finally takes a deep breath of fresh air.
kavi shouldn't leave the party. it's bad form and a little rude, especially since his family is hosting, but he doesn't really care right now. he makes eye contact with nari, who gives him a nod, and then he heads towards where roisin has gone. he sees moon peel off from the crowd and join him. when he gives her a questioning look, she says, "might be helpful to have a fae also try comforting her."
"oh? are you feeling helpful today?" he answers, drily. it only earns him a smile in response.
they spot her outside and moon gestures for him to take the lead. "are you--" no, that's a dumb question. she's not okay. "is there anything i can do to help?"
roisin stops, unsure where to go. the last thing she needs is to be crying and lost so she’s hovering by the door. she takes a deep breath and moves to the side to lean against the wall, the cool material comforting against her skin. she feels so stupid being so worked up, but it’s like she can’t stop now that she’s started crying. she hears the door and tries to force herself to calm down, feeling worse now that she sees kavi and moon have followed her out of the party. she wipes at her eyes and stands up tall. “oh, i didn’t mean to cause a scene,” she starts, feeling like she wants the ground to swallow her alive. or like she could use her dad, but that’s obviously not going to happen, and oh great, she’s crying even harder now. “i’m being silly. you didn’t have to follow. you should go back to the party,” she waves her hand, trying her best to come across nonchalantly while three seconds from sobbing. “i’ll be okay.” eventually.
