Background

Grew up in an upper-middle class family in Seoul. She is the middle child of three siblings and the only daughter.

She was the daughter who did everything right on the surface; smart, well behaved, and got into an American college. Her parents were excited for her, until they realised she planned on staying in New York after graduation. That's when things started going downhill.

She graduated near top of her class in Fashion and Marketing, and worked for small start up companies until one of her campaigns took off and went viral. That's when the big magazines took notice of her and invited her to join the team.

She worked closely with her boss on campaigns. They started an affair, but had to hide it since he was already married. She hated how cliché it was, but there was a part of her that wanted to be wanted by someone powerful. The thrill, the praise, and illusion of something real was definitely easier than the loneliness. Every time she worked up the courage to end things, he'd draw her back in with "business trips" or gifts she couldn't quite bring herself to refuse.

It all crumbled when his secretary and wife caught them in his office. Dawn was fired, he was given a warning. It was humiliating. She lost her job, her safetynet, and everything she had worked so hard for since coming to the states. He got a slap on the wrist and a promotion three months later.

Honestly, part of her is furious at him, and feels extremely guilty about it all. Not for the company, but for the wife. She definitely learned her lesson.

The scandal spread, and unfortunately for Dawn, it reached her parents who cut her off for putting shame to the family. On top of that all her connections in New York had either moved away, or were not speaking to her anymore due to the scandal.

She drifted for a while, tearfully parting with her high-end fashion items in order to make rent, until she managed to find another job, in Texas, of all places. She moved to Blackstone Ridge one and a half years ago.

Now, she lives in a small apartment in Downtown Blackstone Ridge, while working as a clerk and social media manager for Blackstone books. She genuinely enjoys it more than she htought she would.

Personality

Dawn has always been a bubbly person. She's an expert at hiding her bad days behind a bright smile and a cheerful "hello!".

She's clumsy, but does her best to fix her mistakes when she makes them, apologising profusely while doing so.

She still has traces of having lived an upper-class lifestyle in New York, having completely forgotten about the every day struggles like water heaters breaking, and the actual prices of groceries (which definitely made her cry the first few times she went shopping). She's used to blowing thousands on a single pair of boots, but now has to decide if she'd rather have air conditioning or eggs next week.

She's a little clueless when it comes to practical things and often asks offbeat questions, but they always come from a place of genuine curiosity, not ignorance.

Dawn came to Blackstone Ridge just over a year ago after her career, and honestly her entire world, imploded. She had been working in New York City for a fashion magazine as an editor and digital strategist, living a fast, curated life filled with expensive coffee and boots that cost more than the average person's rent. After an affair with her married boss became public, she was fired and pretty much ghosted by the industry, and due to the shame she brought them, cut off by her parents.  Blackstone was kind of random. While going through a difficult time when she had to part with her high-end fashion items to make rent, she happened to stumble across a few job listings. The further away from New York, the better. She applied to a few, scattered all over the country, and ended up getting the one at Blackstone books. When they called her back, she said yes immediately. She wasn’t meant to stay this long, not really sure if Texas was her kind of vibe. However, 1.5 years down the line she’s still there, still thriving, and making Spencer, her new boss, do stupid things for social media marketing. 

What is the coolest place your muse has traveled to? If they’ve never traveled far, what’s one place they hope to visit someday?

Dawn has been to some pretty amazing places for work; Paris, Milan, Tokyo, etc. Pretty much every fashion hub, she’s been there. But none of them felt particularly “cool” at the time. They were just work trips: red-eye flights, stylists running late, tight schedules, and late-night emails from hotel rooms. Essentially, beautiful and fun places seen through the lens of performance and pressure.  The coolest trip she ever took was almost an accident, a 3 day solo-trip to a quiet resort in the Bahamas after a client had to cancel last minute and her weekend had cleared unexpectedly. She loved it. She got slightly sunburned, but spent the days reading, and sketching, and just existing for a bit without the pressure of having to perform all the time.
