End Of Semester Reflection
So this is it. It is the end of my first year as a Graphic Design Student at Coventry University. I must say and I think anyone who interacted with me over this past year knows I had many ups and downs. I move to a brand new city which for me, was a massive step. I knew no-one and went to a freshers party by myself. Then I met some amazing people and havenât spoken a lot to them since. Then I met some amazing friends and stayed with them till the very end. I gave up twice on Paulas book publication module and then got a 2:1. I thought my typeface for the typography module was absolutely bad and I got a 1st and third of all, I thought was I was best at, computer design, would get me the highest grade; and it got me the lowest!Â
So yes, no shadow of a doubt I have learnt a lot in the first semester. I think the first semester was a learning curve, as for anyone but for me especially because of my, should we say, inventive and tragic past!Â
Second semester bought me closer with my friends, Paulina, Katie, Melenie and Ellie. I had KFC popcorn chicken for the first time ever, (even though I didnât tell them that!) I worked in a team, I did coding, which I tried before a number of times and gave up every time, I created a functional website and it works! I was robbed and my money was used :( . I moved back home and worked with my team over 200 miles apart. I had a mental breakdown and wanted to quit and forget about uni! And I even got a job as a middleweight designer.Â
So second semester didnât sound a whole lot better but it was a more of a technical learning point for me. I finally mastered the skill of coding and was able to create a somewhat fully function website. That in and of itself is a massive achievement for me. My personal goals and relationships with my friends have also grown and we became closer and more of a family than those average uni friends. I tried new things which I canât be more proud of because any learning is good learning.Â
So i just want to reflect and say how much of a pleasure it was to reflect and share my life on this blog. I was as open as I will ever be. Even critiquing those horrible humanist typefaces has now made me a little fan of them and I even gathered a library of fonts dedicated to just fonts like them! So yes, an eventful year to say the least but lots and lots of learning and reflection through the process has happened so I canât be anymore prouder.Â
Thank you Coventry.
