DAVINA BONNEY. // TWENTY-FIVE. // MAGICAL. // BLOGGER & INFLUENCER.Â
Growing up, Davina didnât really get that much attention at home. It wasnât that her parents didnât love her or care for her - they were just busy. Her father was often out at all times of the day, following around celebrities, and when he was home it wasnât unusual for him to have to drop everything when he got a call of another super star being spotted. And her mother was home almost all the time, except when she was out for major events, but she wasnât really actively there - too busy plugging into any and all news sources she could or working on writing new articles and coming up with new rumors.Â
Her parents borderline obsession with work meant that Davina had to fend for herself a decent amount - which was fine. She learned how to take care of herself and without strict parental supervision she was basically able to do whatever she wanted. The credit card her father gave her for âessentials and emergenciesâ came in handy. Neither of her parents ever really checked what she was purchasing on it, but even if they did, Davina was always prepared to explain exactly why the new clothes, high end groceries, and loads of makeup were all absolutely essential to her survival. Her social survival.Â
Not that Davina really had much of a social life - at least not in the way other kids did. Her only real friends growing up were Felix and Anthony. Sure she knew absolutely everyone else her age in the city and they almost all knew of her, but she wasnât close with anyone else. Some loved her from afar and some hated her - but regardless they all thought about her and Davina liked it that way. Or at least, thatâs what sheâs always told herself - better to be known by everyone and held up high than to be a nobody that gets overlooked at every turn.
It was meeting Sadie that made her start to realize perhaps that might not be the best way to go about life. She had always thought all she ever needed was Anthony and Felix, but one afternoon on a bathroom floor made her realize maybe she could have more in her life. Introducing Sadie into the group felt natural, like they were all meant to be together in the first place. Joy came in soaring to the crew as well, practically taking over as unspoken leader for them all. But it wasnât until they met Riley in high school that the gang felt truly complete.Â
They stuck together through all their college years and when graduation rolled around - they decided instead of each renting out their own places, they should just all get a house together. It was a great idea - or at least Davina thought so at first. Now though⌠now sheâs starting to realize maybe they all rushed into things and didnât really plan it all the way through. Because six people in one house was⌠a lot - even if those people were her best of friends. It was too loud, too much was always going on, and Davina just needed her own damn space. Itâs why sheâs started looking into apartments of her own. Nothing serious has been decided yet and she hasnât told any of her friends except Felix that sheâs considering leaving, but it is certainly on her mind.
She always sort of knew something was special about her, even before Sadie informed her of her magic. Getting people to agree with her just came natural, but Davina had never given it too much thought. She was just always right and if people were smart, theyâd realize that - which they always did. But upon knowing it was her magic that caused this phenomenon, Davina has tried to be more conscious of when and how she uses it. During high school and college she tried to stop relying on it and learned to get people to agree with her through reasons other than her influence - but now as she works on her blog and other social media platforms, she finds herself using it more and more often in hopes to gain more followers.
Growing up in a home that revolved around gossip, sheâs always been in other people's peoples businesses. Her ear is constantly listening out for any and every piece of gossip she can get her hands on - even if itâs about people she doesnât have the slightest care about. She wants to know EVERYTHING. She doesnât spread it around as often as the other gossipers on the island do - not wanting to focus on rumors or airing out peopleâs dirty laundry - but she finds a power in just knowing it all.
When it came time for college, she almost didnât enroll. She had her blog and social media was starting to become a real potential career path that Davina felt she could excel in if given the chance. Her father was supportive of the decision, but her mother felt differently. Running her own gossip blog, she knew that it would take more than just a little girlâs dreams and mediocre website for Davina to have a substantial life - so she pushed her daughter into studying journalism and communication. She argued that if Davina really wanted to make this her lifelong career, sheâd need to be her absolute best at it and her little high school newspaper classes werenât going to be enough for her to reach that level. So Davina enrolled in the double majors her mother suggested at Walt University.
Has a tendency to be a bit of a perfectionist, especially when it comes to her appearance and the way that she may be perceived. Takes at least an hour getting ready before she even thinks about leaving the house (and even on days that she stays at home she has to apply at least a light face of makeup). In the past has had absolute panic attacks regarding her appearance - eyeshadow not blending just right, her choice of blush not being the right shade, her foundation showing even just the hint of texture, etc. If one little thing goes wrong and she canât seem to fix it, no matter how far along into her look she might be, she starts over - washing everything away in a stressed and panicked state and then taking twice as long to do it again.
Favorite colors are green and purple.
Bi as fuck.
Hasnât really told anyone outside of her friend group about her magic. Even her parents donât know. She wouldnât mind telling her father, but doesnât think heâd be able to keep it a secret from her mother and Davina really doesnât want the woman to know. Because then sheâd think that everything Davina worked for and earned in her life had been completely because of her magic and not just her general capabilities as a journalist and influencer.Â
HATES being called Disgust. Even when itâs done teasingly by her friends she still hates it. Sheâs not filled with disgust at everything the way people always assume or say - sheâs just⌠selective. She knows her worth and what she deserves and doesnât mind letting that be known.
Her blog is called How Davina Sees It and she sort of hates the name, thinks itâs childish and lame - but she came up with it in high school and now itâs her brand. All other social media accounts simply just have her name attached to them though.
