Fic Summary:
Eight years after the Sky People were defeated at the battle of the Floating Mountains, Tonowari encounters a strange Sky Person child, Spider, under the care of the Omaticaya clan. The more he learns about this child, the more horrified he becomes. Tonowari was never one to allow any child to grow without a loving family. Spider is no exception, even if Tonowari must adopt him himself. Now, if only Jake were to agree…

Spider is so quiet even as he is weeping that Tonowari can barely hear him. Tonowari takes a breath. "Spider. It is alright. You are safe." Spider only cries harder; his hands have formed fists in his hair so tight that Tonowari knows it must hurt. Tonowari fights the urge to reach for the child, to comfort him. He can't afford to make Spider more frightened than he already is. Spider shakes his head. "Don't make me go back there," he pleads. Tonowari frowns. "What is it about the fortress that frightens you so?" "I can't go back there," Spider gabbles. "I can't." A chill enters Tonowari's heart.
