Alright so I tried to get it in screen shots, but i gotta say, i worked with a few assumptions:

1. Kakashi is the main point. He's the one i figured out bc he's the one who is part of the most history and that we know the most about, so i made his timeline make (somewhat) sense, and then tried and matched everyone else to it.

2. chunin is an international category and therefore some of them needed to become chunin twice. Once as a field promotion, and a second time to get the official rank in the exams.

3. I mostly tried to work with the ages provided about when they made genin/chunin/jounin. Rarely made some of it up if not provided with. But bc some of this made NO SENSE AT ALL, i adjusted some of the ages. I am still not 100% happy with it, but it's the closest thing i have to making sense, so i am working with it.

4. I made this timeline for my AU so some are specifics for the AU i wrote to make sense tbh

5. Kakashi spent three years without a team after he became a genin. He was field promoted as chunin with six, got a team with eight, and then went through the chunin exams and got officially promoted with nine.

This one here is just Kakashi's timeline and how old other ppl were at the various stages. Kakashi has made genin with 5 and then spent three years on his own without a team. Otherwise Obito couldn't be 1-2 years older than him but also have become a genin with nine.

My personal hc is that Kakashi was a year a genin on his lonesome, became a field prompted chunin a year later, worked for two more years and then someone noticed his atrocious social skills and thought the genius could be fixed if put with some folks sorta his own age. So he was kinda forced back to being a genin. And then he had to go back to the chunin exams and got his official promotion.

This first one is just to establish the timeline i used aka 'what did Kakashi do when'.

This one is all the ages according to that model without adjustments made:

the big problem here are all the inconsistencies. Like, Hayate couldn't have been in the chunin exams with Ibiki on a team, if he wasn't even a genin at that point, and similar things like that.

To combat that, i did two things: One iI adjusted the ages bc making them older interferes less with the story than changing when they made genin/chunin/jounin

this is the main timeline i am working with. Orange are the important, fixed dates. Yellow are the added ages. Colours are who were shown to be on a team together during chunin exams or otherwise.

The second thing i did was add another hc: Some of these people had teams before. It's way ppl with so inconsistent ages were on a team with each other. This could've happened due to two things: a) one of them got promoted and was no longer on a genin team. b) they died. A lot of that stuff happens during the third shinobi war, so it's not unreasonable.

and the final thing: The ANBU timeline of Team Ro. Genma's part in this is a hc, I tried to reverse-engineer the others by looking for how old they were during certain events.

on the right is how many years they've been on team ro, pale orange is when they are on the team. Above are just some notes i made about it.

And yeah, that's my attempt at a timeline! Hope it helps, but tbh it is made specifically for my own story, so i tweaked things so they made sense for me. Genma plays a major part bc he's one of the focuses of my story lol Also i know those are not all characters, but just the ones i needed to know about while i write. Also this timeline is only until the main story starts, bc from there on it's (somewhat) consistent. I have a rough estimation for the wars but tbh i kinda just glossed over them so far bc they're no really relvant to my story.
