My personal LA faves for those visiting to see my Troubadour shows
I have had so many lovely excited ticket holders DM me for recommendations for things to do, places to stay, eat, coffee etc in L.A I thought I'd write a list. Bear in mind L.A is massive and it's split into West, East, North and South. Primarily things I know about are in West L.A or North. If you're wanting to stay somewhere near the venue but not stupidly expensive (and that area is not my fave are to be honest) I'd recommend Westwood, West Hollywood, or even Century City. They are UBER rides away from the venue - but cheaper than maybe some other hotels.
If you want cheaper accommodation and near fun - believe it or not the Universal Hotel at Universal Studios. It IS about a 30 min Uber to the venue but it's in the mid 200 dollars for rooms.
If you want a lovely Santa Monica experience, there's a couple of beautiful hotels but remember it's a 30 to 50 minute drive in peak hour to the venue and rooms are $$$ Rush hour is any time from 3pm onward. But fave hotels in SM include The Huntley, the Fairmont. The Modern.
A great alternative to all of the above is stay on the Sunset Strip at Mondrian. Used to be where I stayed in the 2000's. It's an Ian Schaefer designed hotel but a little dated now. But who cares? It's a scene!
OK fun things. My favorite coffee is either Philz, Alfreds, Peets or Luxxe. Philz is everywhere. As is Peets. Alfreds is a little harder to find.
Restaurants. Hoo boy. I love Tar and Roses in Santa Monica. I love CrossRoads Kitchen near Beverly Hills. I love Osteria Mozza in Hollywood. I love Gracias Madres (vegan Mexican food). But for cheap eats? Canters Deli! Amazing NY style Jewish deli open 24 hours. Swingers Diner in Hollywood. Authentic 50's diner experience. Junk food you gotta try? Prince Street Pizza. Salt and Straw Ice Cream.
Beautiful places? Honestly, Santa Monica. Check out Montana Avenue from 9th to 16th Street. Boutiques, cafe's, just fab. Also walk the opposite direction directly toward the ocean and you'll reach Palisades Park. Stunning view over to the ocean and Malibu. Walk to your left and find the boardwalk with the carnival rides and deep fried treats.
Griffith Observatory. At Sunset.
Westfield Century City. Go to a movie. Eat at Din Tai Fung (dumplings). Visit Bloomingdales. Get multiple pastries or coffees or smoothies.
You gotta see Beverly Hills / Rodeo Drive just to see how obnoxious it is but also fabulous.
