DARPG Confessions

I fucking hate RNG shows. I can't stand the idea of putting a decent effort into an entry, even if it's just a head shit, only to lose out to someone who put in no effort whatsoever just because their number came up/didn't come up. (Depending on the method used by the host)

I am not the person who replied before. But I want to comment on the whole "No effort" complaint. Every piece of art has effort, even MS paint bucket on to premade lines. I agree it is unfair to say there is no effort. However, I do believe that if this person said that there is no effort, then they must have some basis for thinking so. It could be possible that this person was referring to skill. Maybe this person just had high standards. I know I've lost my fair share of competitions.

All this effort stuff going on: when people judge effort shows they should judge compared to the gallery of the person. So regardless of if you are a really skilled artist or not, you still need to put something special into a piece. That's how I judge. But sadly I usually only get a couple entries when I run shows :/

How about we stop picking disciplines for created breeds that make absolutely no sense? Seriously guys. Go read a dog book or something.

To the person in reply to my effort rant. I understand that but it is insulting to be told there was no effort when clearly there is. But apparently because said person is a better drawer than you; you didn't place effort compared to the better person. This wasn't a gallery judged show. It was a judged show against other artist. It is just insulting to be told you placed no effort when you know how much work you put in & how long you spent on it. I don't care about loosing. It's just the comment

One thing that really bugs me is when people try to create realistic dogs but disregard any real genetic knowledge. A common example would be a solid liver dog with blue eyes.

I hate how there are hardly any effort shows anymore. Whenever someone runs one it gets like 2 entries because everyone else is too busy doing 500 RNG shows.

you can tell when no effort is given when your art never improves not even an inch. DARPG use to be about starting from shit and moving to something better than the beginning. So if your art still looks like you took a hefty turd and put it on a piece of paper after so many months of doing DARPG (which should just in itself, be practice of drawing the same thing over and over again to get the hang of anatomy, lighting, and movement) then maybe no effort was really given. :]

Just because I am not the greatest artist does not mean I do not put effort in my work. I try my hardest in what I do. Just because someone else is amazing and it looks extravagant and then to compare how mine looks next to it does not mean I didn't put effort in. You don't know me or anyone else and what kind of effort we do. We all have different skill levels. That pisses me off so much when someone tells another there isn't any effort in their art and comparing to someone else who is better.

In response to a comment below I would just like to say that I have tried HARPG... I know practically nothing about horses and hate drawing them.

When people ask what is wrong with tracing if you credit and they beat you with said image without crediting it. And you know it for a fact because you've seen the picture before.

I confess. Anyone who thinks they can make money off DARPG should go take a peek at HARPG...

The amount of people who are against breeding irl in the community annoys me. Why support it here then? Or maybe you can do some real research on the subject :)

While tracing photographs and giving credit is completely harmless, does not mean you should do it. It just tells the rest of us you're just another lazy ***.

It's sad that you have the same top tier who win Best in show for effort shows. Either it's because they're loaded with titles or they are just such good artists that no else can compete unless you get a bunch of extra images.

I have a confession. I don't even like DARPG. I don't like forcing dogs to do mundane task. I don't like the thought of bringing even more dogs to this already overpopulated world. I'm just in it for the money.

Don't you miss being a DARPG noob?
