didn’t have this ready in time for day one so had to wait for the free day, I really hope you enjoy! Check out the youtube description for a brief rant on how Kuron deserved better, because I love this boy and will defend him to the death. Season 6 broke my heart!!! I can’t believe how he was treated, when he was such a good and kind person who loved the team, Keith, being a paladin, piloting the black lion... and he was labelled the “evil clone” and given a fate worse than death. It just was not fair!

when i was fifteen i went to a purple heart ceremony. it wasn’t the first one i went to. it wouldn’t be the last, either. something they don’t tell you about these ceremonies is that they line the recipients up, like a receiving line at a funeral, and then they recount a story that too often includes the people who did not make it.

these ceremonies are always hard. this was the hardest.

one kid, a sargeant, couldn’t have been more than twenty-four. he’d lost a leg. he’d gotten scars on his face from shrapnel. he’d lost the fiancée who took one look at him and decided he wasn’t the man she agreed to marry anymore.

traditionally you go down the line and shake each person’s hand. i tried to do that. but i got to him. he’d been handsome, i could tell, and once the scarring turned less red he’d probably be handsome again. no one at the ceremony was there for him. all he’d had was the woman who left. so i hugged him. because that’s all i could offer up that might mean something.

the thing is i don’t know what happened to him. i hope he found love again. i hope someone saw that he was brave, and strong, and handsome. i hope he is not one of the ones who never really made it home from the war.

look. i can’t speak eloquently to the racial aspect of sexualizing shiro. for that, check out lia’s breakdown. but i lived most of my life surrounded by men disabled and scarred and traumatized by war. men whose lovers, fiancées, and wives left them. men who no longer saw themselves as desirable or even loveable. men who, in the eyes of the civilian world, were broken.

shiro has lost a limb, has heavy scarring, has rampant PTSD. shiro is an echo of all the men i grew up with. and shiro is loved, desired, saved.

ten years ago, when i was fifteen, i met a sargeant who needed shiro.
