His name is Kanuna Snikersnak, but everyone just calls him "Slowjaw". The last name was given to his tribe by an exploring Librarian, who taught them to read and reform their culture. The Librarian was fascinated by the fantastical flora and fauna of the island and named it "Wonder Island" after the land of "Alice in Wonderland", he also watched the Tortle tribespeople go about stabbing fish, harvesting fruit by slicing off the stems, and and cutting reeds to use for building, amazed at the agility and precision of these gentle, lumbering, reptiles using homemade "swords" made of swordfish snouts, driftwood, and other various fish parts, and detritus that washed ashore. It was this that earned them the name Snikersnak after the sound of the Vorpal blade. The tribe were proud to have the title, and treat the name with respect and pride. The Librarian was LOVED by the Snikersnaks, and he visited them many times over the years, bringing new books and tales of distant land that he visited on his travels, his favorite Snikersnak was the young Slowjaw, who never missed Story Time, even when he grew to maturity. Eventually the long-lived human Librarian decided it was time to settle down and live out his final years among the Tortles who were his best friends. He brought a final gift with him from his homeland, a "real" Vorpal blade that was crafted of an alloy of strong and exotic metals and enchanted to be especially sharp and adept at cutting off limbs (or heads). The Snikersnaks passed down this blade to the most talented swordsman over the generations, before it was finally wielded by Shau-be "Razorwit" Snikersnak, an albino Tortle who is Slowjaw's true love, she loves the old story-teller too having said to him before, "If only you talked as fast as you fight, then Story Time wouldn't be over after sundown, -laughs- but I do love how you talk." Unfortunately Shau-be and the Legendary blade were stolen away in an event over 200 years ago, called, "Waking from Wonderland" when an unknown force invaded the island and stole some of the tribe's relics, books, people, and many of their finest bladed weapons, (the other tribes on the island suffered from this event too), which all disappeared as quickly as it came. Slowjaw knows that his love is out there somewhere, alive and wondering where her "Slow-and-Steady" Kanuna is. Slowjaw, who is 400 years old, quit growing older physically after this event, he is the oldest Tortle to have ever lived, and he believes it is because he must leave Wonder Island to go on a Swashbuckling adventure, find his lost love, and bring her home.
