Summary: When Kamila loses her most used Allen wrench to the void underneath her desk, Sissel and Missile work to retrieve it.

Kamila sighs. “Where did it go?” She looks down at Missile. “Could you sniff out my Allen wrench…?”

Missile barks. “What?”

Sissel would roll his eyes if he were currently in the physical location. As it is, his body is “napping” on top of the radiator in the hallway. Missile probably doesn’t know what an Allen wrench is. Then again, it’s not like Sissel does either. He just likes watching Kamila tinker. It’s sort of an echo of what happened before, sitting curled atop Yomiel’s shoulders as he worked on something. Sissel had never really known what, always, but…it was just nice to be in the presence of someone as they work. He doesn’t even have to mess with anything.

Besides, it’s easier to be in here as a ghost. He’s not taking up any space.

It was a nice insight of how their days post-game could look like, that's really really wholesome.

The "not messing around with contraptions" was a sad addition, I love it!

at long last... it's done... here's my part of this year's ghost swap exchange for @siverwrites (hosted by @fyeahghosttrick!)

I loved the ending with our favourite character very much! In fact, that was my favourite part! It made my heart melt~

Also, I loved the depiction of fiancée Sissel very much! The black dress was a super nice touch!

Sissel purred softly as Yomiel gently stroked his fur. The man’s hand felt cold against his furry body, but the little cat didn’t mind. It was the first time a human ever showed affection towards him and he was glad for it.

Then his ears perked up at the mention of food. Indeed, the little feline was hungry. He couldn’t remember the last time he ate… He used to steal food from trash cans and even this wasn’t easy for him. But now he wasn’t alone anymore, he had a human friend who would take care of him.

Meow!

The kitten meowed happily as he followed after his owner.

Yomiel left the apartment and led his body through the streets. It felt unusual and almost surreal. He watched the people that pass by. They all seemed so... normal. Happy. But how could they be, when he felt so empty?

Look at them... can’t appreciate the life that they have...

Yomiel found himself staring too long at an arguing couple that hurriedly scuttered away under his scrutinizing stare. He shook his head. No, what was he thinking? Those were just innocent people going on about their lives...

Something that he didn’t have...

Yomiel consciously turned his head the other way, grinding his teeth and looking for something different. “Come on, Sissel, the store’s right there.” Maybe he just wanted to make sure that he wouldn’t be doing something irrational. The young man pushed the door open and looked around for animal food when the shop clerk approached him.

“Uh... sorry, Mister, no pets allowed.”

“What?” Yomiel asked irritated, having nearly forgotten that Sissel was a pet.

The kitten watched helplessly as the man cut himself, however, nothing happened. His human friend was alright and the kitten felt relieved that nothing had happened. But the young animal got scared as the knife fell to the floor and he run away from it, in fear.

He saw his human friend moving and followed him watching the man with his attentive yellow eyes, listening carefully to what he was saying. He heard the man asking him something… The black cat tilted his little head to the side.

Mroow (I do…)

He wanted to say, but he couldn’t say it with human words. Yes, he cold understand him. Being among humans for a while, the kitten had learned some of their words and what they meant. But of course there were still things he couldn’t understand very well, after all, he was still a kitten and he still had much to learn about humans and their world, but the small creature was smart and he would learn it fast. Right now, what he knew was that his human companion was feeling lost and alone, just as him, the little stray cat that had been abandoned, discarded like a piece of trash. He didn’t know that humans could be abandoned too, but seeing this poor man, there was no doubt that he was abandoned. The kitten could feel his pain, his sorrow… He wanted to do something to make the man feel better….

Without hesitation, Sissel jumped to the man’s lap and approached his little head to the man’s face, sniffing him quietly to capture his scent and then rubbed his head against the man’s chin, as if wanting to say that he was not alone anymore, that he was there with him.

When he went back, it was only then that he noticed how the clattering noise of the knife must have scared the little cat. He suddenly felt bad for not  being considerate enough to his small roommate.

Yomiel was taken a bit by suprise when the little black cat jumped onto his lap. Then he smiled softly and was touched by the small simple gesture the little fellow showed him, even though he himself couldn’t feel the warmth of the small head against his chin.

He manipulated his body to gently stroke the fine black fur.

“Thank you, Sissel.”

Somehow, it felt natural to him to call the small cat by that name. It made him feel better, even if it was just a simple silly name to a cat. Yomiel liked to imagine that Sissel understood everything he said, so he kept talking to him.

His gaze absently wandered around the lovelessly arranged apartment for a few  idle minutes and lastly fell on the kitchen counter. His eyes widened.

“Food. Gosh, Sissel, you must be hungry! I will- uh...” He thought for a bit and looked at the small cat, then out of the small window. It was already getting dark and there was nothing of the food left since... he couldn’t remember. He hoped that it was this morning that he noticed the absence of food, but he couldn’t be too sure. To him, day and night didn’t make much of a difference. Sleep didn’t and would never come to him, regardless of the time.

The kitten’s ears perked up at the sound of the man’s voice. He felt sadness and sorrow in his tone. The little back feline had been with him only for a few days, but he could already notice the strange aura of loneliness surrounding the man.

The little cat knew how it felt like to feel lonely, to feel like no one never noticed him. He had been on his own for so long, every since he was left abandoned inside a box, along with his little siblings. Every since then, nobody ever noticed him. Some even despised him. He knew how it felt like to be all alone in the world, with no one to reach a hand out to him.

Sissel

He heard the man say that name again. Every time the man talked to him, he would say that same word. Was it supposed to be his name? The small cat never had a name to begin with. He knew that humans had an habit of naming things that meant something to them. Did that mean he was… Something to that man?

Then he saw his human companion raise something to his throat. It was something shiny and pointy, like his own claws and it seemed… Dangerous. What was he going to do? The feline felt a sudden fear, as if his human friend was about to do something dangerous, something that would hurt him.

Meowr?

The kitten lifted his big yellow eyes towards the human, but it was too late, as he saw the knife cutting through the man’s throat.

His neck was stained with red but the wound already began to close again. Out of habit, Yomiel put a hand on his throat. He didn’t feel, but he knew that the wound wasn’t there anymore. Just like the cuts on his arm the other day... The young man let go of the knife - it fell to the floor with a clang, still covered in blood - and manipulated his own body to go towards the bathroom. He looked in the mirror and not a trace was found of his earlier attempt.

“Tch. Of course it wouldn’t work. What was I even thinking, Sissel? God, what am I supposed to do?” He felt like smashing the mirror, but it wouldn’t help. Nothing seemed to help to chase away this feeling of emptiness, restlessness.

He let himself stumble to the lone battered armchair in the living area and willed his body to settle itself in it.

“This... this is a nightmare, Sissel.”

He looked down at the little black cat who had been his companion for the last few days and with whom he had shared a body for weeks, or even months - he didn’t know. Yomiel felt a small connection towards the little fellow.

“S-sure… Yomiel had the overwhelming feeling that he would regret acknowledging the man in the first place. Unfortunately, there wasn’t anything he could do now. He’d have no choice but to see this all through to the end.

He shuddered at the comment, unsure of what to think of the man’s assessment of him thus far. Gods he hoped the guy didn’t try to start anything later to test him or whatever. Knowing him, it’d be dangerous and he’d be screwed if he didn’t react in time.

Yomiel huffed a sigh, picking up his backpack and pushing past the man to head toward the door. It seemed to take an extra few moments for him to regain enough composure to reply calmly.

"Some. But only for really simple things.” Not exactly a lie. Anything he’d learned up to now would look simple to the other man anyway so why divulge the full extent of his learned abilities? "Still working on it though.“

Content, Yomiel followed his alternate self out of the library and resisted the sudden urge to downright crush a girl under a book shelf who had simply been walking with her head buried in a book called ‘What is Life?’. The books on the shelf rattled and moved dangerously when they passed, but he willed himself to not do any killing first. The younger one seemed to get distressed over it and he still needed him.

“Good,” Yomiel simply replied and wordlessly dropped the tablet back into the younger one’s hand. “Keep on it. You’re going to be one of the best.” Yomiel grinned arrogantly.

He looked around while they were walking and took in the all too familiar street. It all seemed familiar and still... different.

He shoved his hands back into his pockets and asked, “Now, where are we going first?” Secretly, he hoped to see Sissel again, but of course, it wouldn’t be his Sissel, the rational part of his mind reminded him. But speaking of her...

There were something familiar, something he couldn’t quite put his finger on, about this place. Yet, what concerned him more than the sense of ‘deja vu’, was that no matter how hard he thought. He couldn’t pin point the last thing he had been accomplishing . He scowls, a little annoyed at the inconvenience at this, as he scratches his chin in thought. If only he knew, then maybe he wouldn’t be confused as to where he were,

Finding answers would have to wait however   ——  pondering over his current situation hadn’t dulled what ‘ senses ‘ he still possessed. He sensed it. Something that shouldn’t be here (why? Because what he was sensing, was so akin to his own presence. Yet, how could that be?) Before he could investigate into whatever this were himself however.

The brightness of the day in contrast to his prior surrounding irritated him and he adjusted the sunglasses of his shell when he suddenly perceived another and stiffened. He made sure that it wasn’t a mirror that he was looking at - but it couldn’t be. The other one had his hand in his pocket while his own was still touching the rim his glasses.

“If we go by that logic, you’re saying I’m exactly like you in every way. No matter what timeline we’re in, I’ll end up dead, just like you.” He growled, glancing at the few curious heads starting to turn in their direction. Worst place to have this conversation ever.

For a second he wasn’t sure what the man was talking about, only realizing the reflection of the light as it faded from his eyes. He wasn’t sure either what it meant, or what caused it. It ad seemingly only been happening when he was rather upset so…maybe it was just when he was aggravated.

“I-I guess… I dunno….”

Yomiel turned his head to the items on the desk and rolled his eyes. Prick. He packed away the rest of his things, bristling as the other man handles his tablet. At least he wasn’t threatening anyone anymore. He had to stop the snarky retort that formed when the other man asked, he needed that tablet in one piece. “…not too far. A year or so into things. I’m….working on it.”

“I can use my powers to good use for once,” the Manipulator replied nonchalantly. “Trust me, you won’t have to suffer anymore as much as I do... probably. Show me around and we’ll see where I can work my magic.” Although the words by itself could be understood as innocent and helpful, there was still something... dark lingering in the older one’s tone that just didn’t seem quite right.

Yomiel glanced at the people throwing them curious looks. “Look at their cluelessness... If only I could change that... So lucky that they’re alive... but didn’t we want to go somewhere, my naive friend?”

“I see...” We’ll have to test it out then, he thought about the light and the younger one’s powers. That sounded like it could be fun.
