daily little life

I made the mistake of scrolling social media for a few minutes immediately after I woke up and one of the videos I saw had a Hamilton audio so I ended up listening to Hamilton on my way to and back from the daycare. still only a few songs into Act II, I forgot how long of a musical it is. I got to the daycare and suddenly got really nervous that it was a bad idea to go back for the summer but all the employees who knew me greeted me with smiles and conversations like I'd never left, so thanks for nothing rapid heart rate at 8:30am

some of the smallest kiddos from my infant room days are walking and talking now! some of my red room kiddos recognized me but couldn't quite place me, others were very excited to see me again. got climbed on and accidentally almost choked by a very excitable 4 year old who used to ride on my shoulders. her vocabulary has gotten way better!! I got to help with water day for some of my old red room kiddos who are now in blue room, and several parents even said hi and had short convos with me when they saw me at pickup. of course there's several new employees and plenty of new kids that I don't know, but I don't think I'll regret going back for the summer. two of the older kids from camp saw me in the hall and immediately ran to me for hugs yelling "Miss Jess!!" so that also made my whole day honestly

slept in, made myself a milkshake for breakfast, and locked in on Subnautica for a while. made an island base and a bloom cave base, both with fully upgraded range scanner rooms for maximum resource grinding efficiency. I finally stopped playing and went upstairs to read in the hammock for a while, despite the loud as fuck cicada/locust/whatever that was screaming near me

got a couple hours of reading in, nearly everyone has now been frozen and teleported and is now in Donut's war atrocity ball of swine, but that is where I stopped for the day when Peyton got home. he told us that work is getting better and he basically gets to rebuild the quality department and I can tell he's kinda excited about it even though it's intimidating. I showed him my subnautica progress and he helped me explore the lost river and I almost died of thirst, which would have been especially upsetting considering I've managed to get like 18 hours of play time and significant story progression without dying a single time. Paige made some really good salmon and sweet potatoes for dinner and we finally watched the newest EP of all stars and I decided to redye my roots at 9pm, accompanied afterwards by a bath to shave my legs and Phil's 20 years of youtube video. it made me think about becoming friends with Cheyenne in sophomore year of high school, bonding over a mutual love of Phil's YouTube videos. she has a four year old now. time flies

Peyton and I woke up to go help with deck demolition this morning to a message that they would be starting later than planned so I laid back in bed for extra cuddles after fully getting dressed to go. we got breakfast and headed to Brooke's and I got some reading done on the way there. we helped them make really good progress on tearing up the deck, even though it kinda hurt to see it all get ripped up and know that only part of it is gonna get rebuilt. parts of it were literally rotting away, so it had to go, but still

we got a box of movies from Herbert and got to meet the new puppy Freya, she is very sweet and squirmy and long. I got more reading done on the way home, we stopped at Ingles to restock the chicken salad that I demolished yesterday + get a rotisserie chicken for lunch. Peyton showered first while I kept reading, and then when I came down from my shower I thought I had had a brain blast about how to reinvent the Dewey Decimal System. I did make some very slight progress, but man oh man is that not gonna be an easy task. Peyton and I went back to reading for over two hours straight before calling it a day - I reached the beginning of part 3 of book 7 and he got to just past Samantha teleporting way more than Sister Ines. we've decided that you know it's gonna be a wild battle when Kevin and Magnificent Troy are there, and the trope of explaining "this is what the plan was supposed to be until everything got fucked up" is very good

I put in a full 8 hour shift plus a little bit of overtime on subnautica today, oops. Paige left this morning to go help her mom with a wedding, Peyton slept in while I played some, and then I woke him up so we could clean, even though no one ended up showing up for craft day it gave us good motivation to get the house cleaned up some. we even got laundry put away and Peyton fixed the top compartment in the cedar chest!

first words my partner says to me this morning: "so hear me out. you're in a fight with a werewolf." and after laughing for a minute and saying "good morning to you too love" I got the rest of the scenario: "you cast invisibility on the werewolf. possible upsides: the moonlight is no longer hitting them it's passing through them, so they could turn back into a human. possible downsides: invisible werewolf"

Paige and I both took showers and then we went to our grocery shopping of the day, which included Sam's and Ingles. Sam's had all the fancy samples out today including some hella salmon bites and Brandon did not lose his switch despite telling us that he did while we were there, he's just a little bit of a goldfish brain. Mr Jim asked Paige and I why we do the weird colored hair and people really love the "my momma always said if you're gonna do something funky, do it to your hair because it will almost always recover, and I took that seriously" answer and it's not even an exaggeration, that's literally just the real thing

I did fuck all today, definitely did not go to work and organize books. I read some this morning, decided to take my meds around 11 even though I didn't have a lot that I wanted to get done today, and when my meds kicked in, apparently the task that I was destined to complete today was take a fuckin nap. I have never had my stimulant medication say "nap time" before but I guess that's what I needed?

after my nap I played viddy games, completed a few levels of princess peach showtime and got connection status change booted out of a few fortnite matches but at least I hit level 100. I played a little of the d&d dragon map which has received a minor update that I have not been able to make use of bc soloing it got much more difficult. Peyton got home and was having a rough time about Change™️, but then his dad called back and talked to him for a bit and I think that helped?

today was the last day I had to be at school and I could just not go back in the building for almost two months but instead I made myself a list on the corkboard of everything I want to get done over the summer and boy howdy it's a lot. I did get all of the novel sets moved today so progress is good! I forgot we would be able to leave early after the end of year meeting so I had planned to stay longer but I only stayed until like 1:30 bc the building was otherwise nearly empty and I lost my motivation. haven't yet decided if I want to go back tomorrow, we shall see

I picked up my meds and some treats for Peyton and Paige went to 7brew also for a treat for Peyton which meant I also got a treat. I dealt with my Tupperware sins and read until Peyton got home, and he told us that he told two of his new coworkers about being polyam when they saw the picture of all three of us and apparently one of them said "its 2026 I'm not surprised by much anymore"

one of my coworkers was expressing confusion to me this morning over her trans child's choice for a summer bathing suit and I told her that sometimes "you just gotta play in the gender sandbox until you figure it out" and that broke her, she sat on the floor laughing and told me that's exactly what she needed to hear

I managed to get lots of books cataloged and relabeled and fixed and even more not yet cataloged but that's a problem for over the summer me bc I have a lot that I want to get done while my para is still here tomorrow. we went out to lunch with the team and I told my mentor teacher about the weirdness of the house and she was straight up shocked by some of the pictures, it was hilarious

we love a day of not doing shit post con. I got home just a couple minutes after Peyton and Paige, which isn't bad for having to wait at five points for 10 minutes. we got the bag of holding and the snacks unpacked and the den organized while Peyton took his shower so he could build his Gurren Lagann Gundam, except he took a nap once he came downstairs. I went upstairs to take a shower, accidentally napped for a bit, and finally took my shower and came downstairs. between falling asleep at the hotel twice and on the couch earlier, we had to restart Jack's subnautica 2, pt 3 video I think a total of four times, but we finally finished it later this evening

I organized my stickers in my sticker book and read a little bit of Eye of the Bedlam Bride and Peyton woke up and built his Gundam and Paige has spent the afternoon on BG3 and yes I could have been crafting or reading or getting my computer out of my trunk to check and see what my pressing tasks for tomorrow will be, but instead I have amassed an absolutely atrocious level of screen time today. a "don't even worry about it I'm not checking" level. I'm blaming it on scouring social media for more RNGesus pics but some of it really is just brain off post con veg time.

we were so exhausted when we got back to the hotel yesterday that I didn't even start this post. we did RNGesus and Fortune's Favored nuns again, and I think by the end of the day we were kinda con legend?? almost every time we got stopped for a pic on the vendor hall/artists alley floor we gathered a small crowd, it was pretty awesome

we got up early to get to Paige's signing on time, we were there before the hall even opened so she ended up being something like 6th in line to meet Taliesin. she got to talk to him for a minute and he signed her badge and she pointed us out so he could see the RNGesus and the other Fortune's Favored and she was really happy about it. I got some dice and we got some more stickers and we all finished our trading card sets, partially by sending Brandon on a fetch quest, it was a pretty fun thing but I wish we knew about it before Saturday, I feel like they didn't advertise it enough. one lady who stopped for a pic of RNGesus and the nuns said "I'm Catholic so this is hilarious" and we told her we were worried it would be a little blasphemous on a Sunday and she said it was extra hilarious bc it was Sunday. we sat to the side of the escalators to chill for a bit before making our way to our usual spot and even then people were stopping for rolls and pictures. Paige gave out all of her scrolls and Peyton gave out almost all of the coins and I still had a few scrolls left, I'm not sure if I still have my singular Fortune's Favored or if someone got it and opened it later, we'll have to check the remaining scrolls. we definitely wanna do it again next year, it was awesome

we even got a pic with a little girl dressed as Wolverine and a girl who has a YouTube channel got a video of us to put in her momocon video and yeah I didn't get to the open crafting or perler workshops or some of the other things I had bookmarked but honestly just walking around and being part of the vibes was fantastic. even when we were at our usual spot to people watch we had people stopping for pics and the crowd control people seemed chill with it bc we always kept people off to the side by the vending machines so we weren't blocking traffic. one person who came up to us for pics asked Peyton if he identified as a furry in the headpiece, and when we asked why, they told us about their friend group's MomoCon game of counting all the individual furries they see, they apparently have bylaws and everything

RNGesus and the Fortune's Favored nuns were very popular today, lots of people stopped us for pics! we visited our larp friends and I got some stuff at artists alley and got a commission of Peggy and we went to AMVs and voted in the awards and had a gra tim overall. we got anime blind boxes and came back to the hotel to open them and rest before going back to find bh and get subway on the way. I did finally meet bh and gave him the note from my Sunny cosplay, we saw a Recovery Girl cosplayer that gushed over the fact that we asked her for a photo and she gave us lollipops and kiss stickers and we dipped out of the drunk AMVs

we watched Darius demolish a guy in Street Fighter 6 and gathered trading cards and did a lap of the connector hall in backrooms mode and got boba and played cards against humanity but the acotar version which is basically just word soup when you haven't read acotar (which none of us had) so we swapped to regular cah when it became available. side note does anyone know what dlh for an expansion name is? it had some weird ones we didn't get and I couldn't find info about it so maybe it was a custom pack? a guy was having An Experience on our way back to the hotel, one that involved putting a lei on the mahole cover and waving an umbrella bag around.

I woke up at 6:05 and managed to get to work on time with everything I needed for con and that day feels like days ago. I sat in a useless meeting for a while this morning and said bye to the kids and made an appearance at a leadership meeting. the long term parking was full so Peyton and I had to venture back out after 11pm to move Luna but it is done.

I caught the tail end of the DCC photo shoot and went to the MLP one where Paige and I were the only 5th gen characters there and then we came back to the room and I napped some, not enough to feel like a new person but enough to get me through the day.

Brandon had never heard Paige's true snort laugh, Darius did an awesome 90s themed panel and we gathered outside it after to talk about pokemon and I gave him shit for not including any PBS programing (apparently Bill Nye was on there we just ran out of time, that man really could talk about the 90s for hours)

I did today at work on 3 hours of sleep, but inventory is done! a few books were marked as lost, but I am accepting of 27 books (some of which were probably weeded and we forgot to remove from the system) and ending the day at 43 overdues from students. I hope to get a few more of those back tomorrow so we're in good shape. I started organizing all of the books that need to be fixed/cataloged/etc., so that's a problem for tomorrow me to finish. I left as soon as I could and stopped for gas and to change clothes and I managed to get to the con right around 5. I might even be able to swing getting here in time for the dungeon crawler Carl photoshoot/meetup at 3

we walked most of the vendor's hall and artists alley and I got some neat stickers and such, I have also been given a list of things to collect from the house tonight before work tomorrow and making my way back here in 13 hours. Brandon is thoroughly enjoying his first con, he's gonna be exhausted by Sunday. we made our way back to the hotel for a bit so we could rest and recoup and read, and we turned the TV on and caught part of the "penis towel" episode of Below Deck and called that it was that ep less than a minute before the reveal of it. we went back for the Cartoon Dads panel and Peyton enjoyed voicing his opinions and apparently not only has Brandon never watched any bojack horseman, he's never even heard of it. I know he's only a couple years younger than us but maybe it was a very niche thing for our time period as early college students?

the feral con crunch energy is here. it's after 1am. I'm still trucking. not personally doing much at this moment but I am being supportive

the 5th graders got their awards this morning, we got inventory over 99.5% of the way done, we just have 50 books left to find tomorrow! I set up a DK Eyewitness books station with a podium no one ever used and I'm trying to decide if I should put "find your new special interest!" as the sign for it, is that too niche for an elementary school?

my coworker said that I am braver than she is bc I told her I'm going to con as soon as I leave work Thursday and then getting home to sleep a few hours to work Friday and then head straight back to con

Peyton made my bee rosary and 3d printed more coins and I got my horns and ears done and helped paint a couple faces on the headpiece and Paige finished the RNGesus headpiece and worked on her horns and ears and got the veil finished

I have said several funny one liners today that are gone from my brain at this moment, so you'll just have to trust me. I believe one of them was "I thought you guys got raptured and I was really confused because why would I be the only one left"

i can apparently get a lot done at work on 4.5 hours of sleep. I got lots of books pulled from nonfiction and began organizing them into subcategories, although I do not yet know how I will be physically organizing them next year, that's still a mystery to me too. the drama club kids did their performance this morning and I had to step in and the 2nd graders came to do yearbook signing in the library instead of their hallway and I enjoyed watching them, especially after one of them figured out they could ask me to sign their yearbook and then I had my own little autograph line going. one of my 5th graders talked about learning about bombs from myth busters as a kid (as if he isn't still a kid) and said "I'm not sure a 5 year old should be learning how to make bombs but ya know I'm fine" and I said "at least you were learning!" and they loved it. they did their little magic school bus beep beep in the atrium today and I've gotta try to get an audio recording of it tomorrow, I'm gonna miss it. I only have three more days with the kiddos!! my first year flew by so fast

managed to get another 60+ books weeded today from the non-fiction section, along with some good notes about things in that area that I need to work on. also decided that my vape shop experience in creating a standards document for how inventory should be named in the system will help me as I attempt to create a cataloging document for my entire library. I did also figure out how to print sheets of spine labels today so that will save me some time and headache over the summer. a donut truck came today for the kids for some sort of grade level party and you bet your ass I went out there and got some chocolate Oreo fried donuts and an apple cider. lunch of champions

I've also decided I will never again feel like a fraud; another person who is in their first year in the position just like me sent an email today, the last week of school, asking if someone can walk her through running overdue notices for students. bestie I hate to break it to you but at this point you're not getting those books back. I did not listen to the night vale EP that Harley messaged me about last night, but I shall try to do so tomorrow

Brandon was here when I got home, they were figuring out logistics of this weekend. paige traced the outline of the shape I need on the bag, I need to go get another fabric marker color tomorrow to fix it, we bleached my hair as I read about Eleanor, a woman in the 1100s who lived to be approximately 80 years old and was at different points of her life queen of France and then queen of England. we said that things kept happening to her but I feel like at some point she decided to happen to things and I love that for her

Paige and I got up and got breakfast and then spent $100 on cosplay supplies, about $40 of which were not on the list of supplies we went there for, but we did get some good stuff and we sang whatever Hazbin songs came on shuffle on the way home. Paige's rosary is now going to have a skull on it and mine is gonna have a bee, we got the clay and made the horns and ears for our Sunny and Izzy cosplays, we finished the pins for Sunny's bag and got the fabric marker for it, and I made slight progress on my patch. still have a long list of stuff to do, but progress is progress.

I went up to the hammock to read for a bit and then it got too hot so I came inside to read more on the couch upstairs, and once my meds kicked in I got out my computer and updated the household expenses spreadsheet and the temperature quilt spreadsheet and cleaned out my email and looked at vacation deals and even did some stuff for work
