Windpump recording session.
This is how i got my field recording gear into one zeppelin. 2x DPA 4060′s and a Rode NTG3. The DPA’s (omni mic’s) are as far apart as possible within the zeppelin, and i love the recordings i’ve been getting. Really natural, wide stereo. But if i want to flip over to a mono shotgun recording it’s a really quick changeover process - no more pulling the whole thing apart to insert the Sanken CSS-5 stereo shotgun. The Sanken does sound great, but has absolutely no low end, whereas these DPA’s sound full.

81 tracks. That’s a pretty high track count for a song methinks.
Here's a stereo version of the soundscape that accompanies the Grey headed Flying Fox (aka fruit bats) installation in the Atrium of Melbourne's Federation Square. The installation runs through April until the end of May 2015, and the sound part of it can be heard at 7, 8 & 9am, and 7, 8, & 9pm

Can sound evoke memory? The Memorandium turns the radio studio into a sound-memory incubator.
podcast available now of the Radio National performance & interview for Soundproof
I’m editing the sounds of crows (technically Australian Raven’s) and they are gathering outside my studio.
Recording session for the ABC Radio National version of Memorandium, where i played soundscapes to the studio audience built from field recordings, and designed to help trigger memories. The audience were asked to share those memories, and Penelope Bartlau then improvised stories or word play inspired by the memories, whilst Leah Scholes (percussion), and myself (electronics) improvised soundscapes.
To be broadcast Friday 22nd May 2015 9.05pm (GMT +10 / Australian Eastern Standard Time), and will then be available to stream/download.
Experimentation with voice, not your average percussion (or percussionist for that matter), and electronics for Memorandium — with Leah Scholes and Penelope Bartlau.
On 7th May 2015 we will be recording at the ABC studio’s in Melbourne in front of an audience for Radio National’s Soundproof program. Tickets available now.

Tonight i will mainly be being serenaded by a recently restored EMS Synthi 100. Known for it’s use by Stockhausen, Meat Beat Manifesto, and Doctor Who.
Batmania
Finished the audio installation in the atrium of Federation Square, Melbourne today. Kathy Holowko's 200+ bat sculptures will be installed over the next few days ready for the opening on 1st April 2015. Visitors will be treated to a recreation of the Yarra Bend Park flying fox colony made from 5x mono shotgun mic recordings (Rode NTG3), each recording sent to it's own speaker spaced around the atrium, resulting in a pseudo-surround type listening experience. Visitors will also hear bats 'flying' around the atrium using surround mapping that I've made using Logic Pro 9. To represent their daily routine the colony sounds are juxtaposed with recordings I made rather fittingly on Halloween when bats congregate in the Eucalyptus tree in my neighbours garden to dine on their native food source of gum nectar. The 15 minute audio part of the installation will play at 7am 8am & 9am, & 7pm 8pm & 9pm daily from 1st April to 30th April. The bat sculptures can be viewed 24 hours a day.
