THERE ARE SOME THINGS I’M SAYING IN THIS POST I HAVEN’T SEEN ANY WHERE ELSE SO I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO GET THIS MESSAGE OUT. 

I said I wasn’t going to watch this before it officially came out but I broke so now you have this…

This post was originally going to contain two lines, “I just watched GM Texas Part 3. I have no idea where the writers are going with this.” But then I stepped back from the video and analyzed/thought about what just happened…and well, that’s wrong.

There’s still hope for Lucaya. Lucas and Maya were awkward on their date for one reason only, and Maya completely proves this by asking Riley, “What do you and Huckleberry usually talk about?” - they’re acting like Riley and Lucas. 

Maya knows that Lucas still has feelings for Riley, so she’s trying to act like Riley in attempt to build their “relationship” and have him feel that way about her. 

(why else do you think Maya’s denying that her relationship with Lucas is insanely awkward to Riley?). 

So Lucas has no choice (because their banter usually works with Maya firing the gun and him retaliating) HE HAS TO ACT LIKE HE DOES WITH RILEY, TO MAYA. 

But there’s already a Riley in Lucas’ life, why would he need two Rileys? He needs the Maya of his life. The one who keeps him on his toes, that’s what they were missing on their date. 

What Maya doesn’t realize is that Lucas already likes her for her. She doesn’t need to be another Riley.

Lucas doesn’t talk about birthing calves and horses with Maya, he does that with Riley. Maya doesn’t sit there and act all “polite” and “mannerly” (ok, cope with that terminology, my 3am brain can’t come up with a better word), that’s what Riley does. Maya lays down banter and Lucas picks it up, carrying it along. They’ve always done that and it works. 

Maya and Lucas are functional as a couple. Just not a “Riley and Lucas” couple…

with the backstories while losing what their relationship needed most to operate.

Maya and Lucas are their own type of couple with banter and making fun of each other but having each other’s best interest in mind, at the end of the day.

This is proven through the clips we get in the episode that mirror the relaxed Lucaya - Maya dumping the smoothie on Lucas’ head and them both smiling after, Maya lightly kicking Lucas in the butt and him responding in the best way possible. That’s them. Not the awkward conversations. 

They forgot what it was that made them work so well together. They were trying to be someone they’re not. 

My reaction: Lol what?

lucas getting up early and having to literally drag maya out of bed, with her mumbling and grumbling “five more minutes” and “fuck off friar how are you so cheerful at six am” and “you’re so goddamn annoying stop singing walking on sunshine i’m breaking up with you”

ten minutes later there’s a hot coffee cup in her hand that he made for her and she feels a lot better and less murderous 

lucas tries to make her eggs and pancakes but he ruins them every time so she rolls her eyes and makes them instead because she’s had to learn how to cook for herself ever since she was in middle school and her mom was barely home

after breakfast maya takes a shower first because if she let lucas in before her he’d take all the hot water because he takes fucking two hours every goddamn morning

they stand in front of the mirror and brush their teeth together

“oh my god lucas move your fucking tree trunk arms outta my way for gods sake”

“maya do you need a step ladder? can you even see yourself in the mirror? i’m gonna start giving you growth vitamins with your eggs”

“i’m breaking up with you”

lucas drives them to campus and kisses her forehead with a “make good choices today” before they separate for class

sometimes maya will have a bad day in class and he’ll come home with her favorite bottle of wine and they’ll watch her favorite movies and he’ll let her complain about her day with him while he pets her hair and tells her how amazing she is

if lucas has a bad day she’ll leave little notes around their apartment like “suck it up champ” and “dont let the haters get ya down” and “i love you(r arms)” just because she knows it’ll get a smile out of him

he likes to tell her he loves her all the time throughout the day like “hey maya we need more milk also i love you btw tbh fyi” or he’ll text her in class like “hey shortstack!!! i hope you have a good day 2day!!!!! ilysm” with excessive emojis bc he knows how dumb she thinks they are, or he’ll like mumble it in her hair when he’s half asleep

Lucas knew Maya wasn’t feeling alright.
