It’s taken me a while to muster up the UMPH to write something... This blog has been looking rather empty since the days of tailored reviews for things... we’ll give it a little makeover and give you a little inside into my wonderful world.. away from the restrictions of 140 characters and show offy Facebook statues. On Saturday 27th June 2015, I participated in the Pride March from Selfridges to Whitehall. I was holding the Isle of Man flag, which holds no deeper meaning to me than the bamboo stick it was attached to, the principal was... I wanted to be a part of Pride that didn’t mean drinking from 10am and being wasted by 3pm. I’ve never properly attended a Pride event. The one time I attempted to.. the entire event was actually cancelled and me and my friend accidentially joined the parade whilst looking for the nearest toilet. Words cannot begin to describe the magic of the 27th. To walk alongside other lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender+ people and receive the warmth of thousands of people is something you can’t measure anywhere. I tried to speak to every single spectator watching. Every child that looked on got a hi-five from me, everyone else got a “hayyyy” or a “hiiiiiee”. There was no sadness anywhere. Even as tears strolled down my face, there was no room for sadness anywhere, just a celebration of love. I won’t write much more because some things are better left unsaid... but I am so proud of that day and I cannot wait to continue being a part of Pride.

"Cinderella" is the original love story for everyone. As a child, everyone watched Disney's 1950s animation and people prior to that era would know of the original folk tale written by Charles Perrault. Redoing "Cinderella" seems a bold move for Disney. In a world where we have reworkings and readaptations of old classics... See "A Cinderella Story", "Another Cinderella Story"... The list goes on. What makes Disney magical is the movie is a straight readaptation. We haven't taken Cinderella into 2015... There's still pumpkins, lizards and a very wonderful Fairy Godmother (played by the sensational Helen Bonham Carter). What's great about this particular adaptation is the reliance on Cinderella's kindness and a look into other characters and their thoughts, without delving too much. Take the Wicked Stepmother, for example, played by Cate Blanchett. She appears as a woman full of grief and having to play second best to Cinderella, whilst trying to appear strong and wholesome for her unrefined daughters. Sure, it doesn't justify all her actions but what we see here is a scared yet adventurous social climber in need of her happy ever after. In relation to the stepmother, one would justify a comparative link between Cinderella and Jane Austen's titular character Emma. The film is a big and magical affair, with a real reliance and showcase on how important kindness is. One of the most powerful moments of the movie is when Cinderella turns to her stepmother after years of abuse and forgives her. It's beautiful and sentimental and comes from the purest heart. The only issue with the movie for myself is how Cinderella refuses to leave her parents home because of their love for it but the minute hunky Prince Charming proposes, she's out of there! A small flaw but nothing in retrospect of this big, aesthetic pleasing blockbuster. 4/5 Daniel John Sado
