defiant

there was something about the person before her, but they couldn’t put their finger on it. a certain wisdom, perhaps. “i have. i’ve done nothing but travel through space,” they admitted. staying on one planet for too long felt foreign. for whatever reason, they did believe her. “i will take your word for it,” she said with a slight smile. from what she knew of humans, they were resilient, and they did put up a good fight, even when they should have been outnumbered. it was fascinating. “are you from here?” it was hard to tell sometimes. 

she respected people with alien friends. “then i guess you have some smart friends,” she teased, though her tone didn’t let on that she was teasing all that much. gamora held her breath for a moment, and then let it out slowly. “it was a planet called zen-whoberi. no one lives there anymore,” she explained, but not going further into detail. “what are things you like then? anything, really. doesn’t have to be a favorite.” 

they shrugged a shoulder. “people having favorite things? i don’t really know,” they admitted. they didn’t have tons of favorite things. “mine was pretty sarcastic, anyway. i just find it funny,” gamora admitted. “oh yeah? i think that’s solid. i can give you the leather jacket. i have one of those, actually. they’re nice.” 

while that was probably true, it sort of only just proved their point. their technology was lacking, which was really kind of astonishing. humans had made it so far along, were so fascinating and powerful, but couldn’t catch up there. “i suppose it is quite an accomplishment, all things considered,” they agreed. “i guess that’s the difference, then. we have lots of use for different tech in space,” she shrugged. none of her limbs were the ones she was born with. without that tech, they didn’t really know what would have happened to them. and that wasn’t even the most advanced technology they’d been exposed to. 

“every time i come to this planet, there’s something new to amaze me,” they said. they didn’t love this place, but it was far from the worst place they’d ever been. “i think my favorite thing this time is how everyone thinks this technology is so advanced. but i guess i should be asking what your favorite thing is.” @reshieldedstart​

they blinked a few times in surprise at the flash, blindsided and taken aback. “what was that?” they asked. they did not say cheese. she doesn’t know why she would have, anyway. “thank you? you look good, too,” they settled, still a bit confused. 

the alien looked at him intently as he spoke, her eyebrows up. what was he going on about? clothing? how his body looked? why didn’t he just spit it out already? so much rambling. gamora should be used to this by now, but sometimes they’re still caught off guard. “it doesn’t hide your gut, but i don’t think it matters. you look nice. and all body shapes are lovely. just go on your date.” if they didn’t appreciate how he looked, it wasn’t worth it anyway. they would never go on a date with anyone who didn’t think they looked amazing. 

gamora had only been to earth a handful of times, and each time, she found it more strange than the next. somehow, this planet was filled so many incredible and powerful people, and yet, they got caught up in the most bizarre of things. maybe they’d never fully understand humans or earth. they thought that was okay. “dramatic? sure. it’s also kind of weird, really. but i don’t understand the need to have a day to celebrate love,” they admitted. she loved the people she loved every day.
