Interlude
Footsteps approached. Daphne then came into focus.
Without saying a word, she rolled up her sleeve, lowered to the floor with a rustle of clothes, took Nicolasâ head into her hand and pressed the bared wrist to his mouth.
âDrink.â she then said briskly. âYou are leaving. Say no word until you are outside and the Lord will have you leave without obstacle.â

One dissappeared, another one showed up. Anger was boiling in Nicolas veins. He watched her try to help him and put an effort on his part as well.
Do not speak. Why, it wasnât a surprise, this request. Annoying, sure. Surprisig. Not even a little. âShall we?â he said coldly.
She nodded calmly keeping hold on his arm for his stability. She then lead him through the chamber and up the small stone steps to the chapelâs back chamber.
