then another thing is the confirmation that fiddleford forgetting about getting emma may a gift (and MAKING ford TWO) was not just a memory gun overuse thing added up with the fact he was constantly around ford while he hadn't seen her in months, its also just out of a genuine lack of care. or if not care, then a real kind of thoughtlessness.
whether you want to place that more on him just caring about ford MORE or really just being a neglectful partner to emma may more fully, the balls in your court, but yknow its interesting that alex frames it all as though its closer to a straight line of unrequited interest, and calls it a tragedy and all that.
hes a raised christian southern man born in the ~50s, the first in his family to go to college, probably the first to go that far from home, there are likely a lot of expectations on his shoulders. along with getting a successful career, another expectation would be for him to settle down and have a family Like Everyone Else. he parrots as much to ford himself.Â
but evidently there were issues before ford came into the mix if she brought up divorce over the present thing, and i think many of those issues could have very easily stemmed from the problem of him either not being compatible with her as a result of an incompatible sexuality or just as a result of him never getting over his college roommate.
i think he WANTS to love her, probably thinks he does, too, but clearly the actions arent there, which is really saying something for mr. "acts of service are my love language".
and then the other thing is i wonder if things were alright up until ford called and then it was just boom, six months of him neglecting to pick up the phone. hadnt thought much of him after school and then its like hes in full ford pines relapse lol. or were there issues before that point?
man its just interesting. and fucking sad for both of them.
both of them are in love with someone who loves them back but not in the way they want! or maybe they DO love them back in the way they want, but its not enough! its not enough to trump fiddlefords prioritization of ford, and its not enough to trump fords prioritization of bill.
