🎃 Special edition! 🎃 In honor of the season, I created a “Candle Glow” copper version of the beloved Wheel of Samhain bandana. Screen printed with a soft golden-copper metallic ink that brings to mind the flickering glow of a jack-o-lantern amidst midnight shadows, this special edition was originally supposed to be a part of the upcoming shop update (info in bio) but I decided to release it early because I just couldn’t wait! Definatley my #coffee cups! These metal cups from the late 19th century are decorated with #skeletons, both adult and infant, representing the Danse Macabre, or the “Dance of Death.” As a memento mori, they remind drinkers of the shortness of life and the inevitability of death.

Another attempt at a print from the lining of a laminated cardboard milk carton. I drew this very casually with a scalpel on the foil inner layer of an almond milk container, then picked and peeled the foil away strategically to expose the grainy cardboard underneath. The cuts and the grain held the sticky printing ink, which wiped off the remaining foil. This is at the limit of the pressure my lightweight press will deliver – it’s made from an old mangle with spring-loaded wooden rollers, whereas a professional etching press has heavy solid metal rollers. If you look hard you can spot the odd light spot where the damp paper wasn’t quite forced all the way into the recessed areas where they met the edges of the foil, so failed to pick up the ink from the angle between them. I mostly stick to drypoint (scratched or incised lines) or shallow textures painted on printing plates, so the paper is more easily pressed into them. I suppose it’s technically a collagraph, being made from a layered cardboard plate. But if you’re literal-minded, it’s really the opposite. Collagraph comes from the Latin meaning to stick or adhere, and the process of making this plate consisted entirely of un-sticking and peeling.
