~ Welcome to Aurora Bay, DALTON DALLY! I couldn’t help but notice you look an awful lot like AUSTIN BUTLER. You must be the THIRTY year old ATTENDANT AT TIDAL WAVE MUSIC SHOP. Word is you’re CHARISMATIC but can also be a bit INTROSPECTIVE and your favorite song is UNSTEADY BY X AMBASSADORS. I also heard you’ll be staying in SEABROOK QUARTER. I’m sure you’ll love it! ~
mild trigger for child neglect
Dalton, born to a wealthy mother and father, constantly found himself being pushed out by them. It wasn’t that he was a bad kid, he just kept getting in the way of their busy careers. He found himself being adopted by a couple who coudln’t have kids, eventually his feet landed in Aurora Bay where his parents were from. Dalton did okay in school, always middle of the road, never going anywhere solid.
His love for music happened in school but never had enough passion to pursue it, always finding himself failing before he managed to jump the finish line and get himself through the hoops that would have made him an incredible artist. His biological parents eventually came looking for him, offering him the opportunity to come with them or get a payout and never hear from them again.
Dalton didn’t want to leave home, but he went with them for awhile just to see how things went, and it wasn’t because he didn’t love his adoptive parents, he didn’t want the money they were offering. Eventually though he asked to be returned home and he took the money and put it into stocks, choosing to provide for himself in the future.
He got into a job at Tidal Wave, because it was what he felt like he wanted to do with his life, after a few years he had a decent bit of money but he still has no idea what he wants to do with all of what he has because he’s happy with where he is. Wanting to push himself a little further, he’s brought a guitar and he’s taking lessons, but what happens with that is still a big question mark.

Dalton stepped through the doors of the salon, he only did this once a month. He liked looking his best, and that’s why he even came here. The hand massage was simply a little bonus.
“Tori?” He asked, taking a seat at what he already knew was her spot.
“You know me. Clear, hand massage, maintenance mode.”
"Do I not look okay?" Rina questions hypothetically, before quickly adding, "Don't answer that." Frankly, how they looked right now was probably a physical manifestation of how they felt on the inside. Defeated. Downtrodden. Dead inside.
Tucking their legs back underneath the bench, Rina apologises as well. It seemed only right and lately apologies seemed to come easier.
"You didn't step on me. I shouldn't be manspreading all over the pavement. Sorry, my bad." Maybe her apologies could still do with some work.
Dalton’s hands moved up into the air, surrendering to whatever was about to happen. He was really hoping he hadn’t offended them with his current line of questioning.
“I plead the fifth, I wasn’t going to say anything, it’s just how often do you come across a person spread on the pavement?” He was wondering what their answer would be.
“Are you okay though? I know I already asked, just wondering.” { @rinaxchiron }
Holland didn't like crowds when she felt like she had to be in them for no reason. She hated the noise of lots of people—but she did like that she felt lost in them. Sometimes it was nice to walk through a town and people not know her name—for her to be just another face among a group. When she was living with her parents, everyone in her town knew her. They'd greet her as she walked around. There was a balance here in Aurora Bay that she liked. Not too many people, but people that greeted her when they saw her.
"I like them when I can feel invisible," she admitted. That didn't happen as often as she liked. She knew she was not the only person that felt that way. "Decisions do make everything more complicated." She couldn't imagine lot of people asking her questions and surrounding her. Thankfully she didn't have to deal with that at work.
"Oh, you work at the record store? That's so cool. I've always wanted to get into record collecting, but I have no idea where to start. I listen to a lot of classical music."
Dalton was one to try and make his way through a normal day in the slowest way possible. He couldn’t understand why people wanted to rush through their days when there was so little time to appreciate them.
Inversely he also understood his bed was one of the more comfortable items he owned and sleeping was very much a privilege that he enjoyed at the end of his usually busy working days. It was a privilege not everyone had so he appreciated it more.
“And how often does that happen?” He was curious to know the answer. Personally it wasn’t often so hearing someone else could be invisible would be a welcome change.
“That’s me when it comes to playing music. Always wanted to, never had the chance to actually play it myself. Or just not the right instrument. If you want some help I’m always at the record store.” { @hollandbrights }
"I'll literally buy you lunch if you do today's restocking." Wren wasn't all that above begging, in fact she even had the tiniest hint of a pout on her lips as she looked over at her coworker. "Please? Cause if I have to lift one more crate full of vinyls of teeny bopper hits, I may go insane."
Dalton had already done his work for the day, now he was on sales. Dealing with customers was something Dalton could do without, so Wren offering him something else to do… He was enthusiastic to say the least.
“Yes!” He said almost a little too loud, seeing another customer beelining for him he smiled politely. “Sorry, I’ve been called to stock shelves.”
He grinned at Wren as he stepped away from his station. “I’m putting my order in for Jade Bowl.” { @thewrenxharlow }

Caroline couldn't help the little snort that rumbled out of her, shaking her head bemusedly as she looked up to the man she'd essentially rescued, "Fun huh?" She asked teasingly before he was giving his name back in response and she nodded once again. "Well Dalton, it's nice to meet you. And to..well, save you." She added with a little laugh.
"Do they maybe know you from something or...anything like that?" Maybe he was some big fancy celebrity? This town was apparently home to a few musicians and actors, even if Caroline didn't know who most of them were since she and her grandmother really only had basic cable on their old tv, and Caroline spent too much time working on her music (or working in general) to keep up with new releases over the years. She could be talking to an A-List actor and be none the wiser.
Dalton felt a smile on his face, he didn’t know how it got there and he wasn’t going to question why. He had a good feeling that he knew exactly why it was there. He was looking at her.
Looking at her a little too long he scratched the back of his neck, breaking eye contact, clearing his throat.
“Well, I’m uh…” He sheepishly chuckled, shaking his head a little, looking back at her. “... I’m very happy to have had your help for the moment of crisis.”
Dalton pressed his lips together trying his best to make sense of what was happening. If he put memories together of before they started crowding him he had been looking at his account balance. That had to be the puzzle piece that was missing from this day.
“I think one of them might have gotten a look into my bank account. I was checking it on my phone before I was crowded.” He sighed, his shoulders dropping a little heavily.
“I’m unknown as far as I know, unless my bio parents said something.” Unlikely, it was definitely his phone.
Dalton looked up from where he had been cleaning up a few of the shards of a broken album. A child earlier had decided it was fun to throw things, fortunately their parent did pay for it.
“Hey! Roman?” Dalton waved out from across the store, recognizing Roman a mile away.
Dalton upon finishing work picked up the stack he’d set aside for Isla. Making his way to the dance studio, thinking a direct approach would be far more of a welcome approach. It made it much more accessible for Isla.
He popped in, hearing the music that he assumed was someone getting some work done he chose to wait, checking through the glass, waving a quick hello.
He sat on a bench outside the class, not wanting to interrupt. Tapping the top of the stack of albums that now took up the space on his lap.
Hannah's eyes widened when he took off since she didn't expect him to actually run. It seemed like the best escape plan, though a bit dramatic, but Hannah was nothing if she wasn't a bit of a drama queen.
"Wait!" She called after him and ran in his direction. She cursed herself for not keeping up with jogging because she wasn't going to catch up with him. It didn't help that he had an advantage with being taller than her.
When he finally stopped she jogged the rest of the way to the bench and plopped down beside him trying to catch her breath. "I think. I need. To start running again.." She spoke between breaths. "At least we lost them."
"What a first impression, huh." Hannah laughed as she finally met the man's eyes. "If I were a hopeless romantic I'd say we've had ourselves a meet-cute... well, maybe not so cute." She wrinkled her nose at the thought of how they were out of breath and a bit sweaty.
Dalton liked the moments where he got to be this unserious, they didn't come around often and he wanted to take the time to bask in shirking his adult responsibilities every now and then.
"No waiting!" He called back, although he'd already made it halfway through the crowds at that point, so he felt like he was probably winning whatever race this was going to be.
While not serious, Dalton still had a little competition in him. "You know, I think I might have to do the same." He confirmed.
Dalton took out a bottle of water to sip at, he hadn't drunk his work water so he reached in for a second bottle, offering it to her.
"Alright, you're going to have to explain to me what a meet-cute is?" Dalton had never heard of it, so it confused him just a touch.
"Besides, getting the heart-rate up is always good for business." { @hannahxsinclair }
Though there were quite a few people in Aurora Bay that had fame or money or even both, there were still those in town who saw opportunity when any of them walked through the door. Ford was lucky he wasn’t anything like how he was portrayed on tv it had a way of saving him in the long run. People didn’t care as much when they found out he wasn’t the larger than life persona on a reality tv show
“ I mean don’t start changing yourself for other people” ford noted as he shook his head. “ honestly just keep a look out. People have a way of reading others whether we realize it or not “ he added before glancing back at Dalton. “ wanna grab lunch? I have to head into tidal wave in like an hour ?” @daltondallyy
Having money in this town sometimes seemed like it would be far more of a burden than anyone would let on. With the sales people he had just run into he was glad his selling style was a little more... Relaxed.
Pressuring people into buying wasn't something he would have ever been up for, it just felt like something that would be taken entirely the incorrect way.
"See I think the same thing, I'm not changing myself to cater to these people either." He finished, agreeing with the way Ford said it. Ford made it sound better when he said it too.
"I have time, just finished my shift so I have all the time. Where you thinking?" { @ford-tamblyn }

Helena stood against the door and waited for a second to make sure that they couldn't hear the people they were avoiding any longer. "Well, we might have to leave separately. I can go first and then make sure there's a clear path to the exit.
"A quick dash or we make up some emergency but I don't know if we want to play with that kind of karma." @daltondallyy
Dalton peered around the corner, they were all still kind of looking expectantly at the area they'd just disappeared off to so running was almost impossible.
"I think, I have an idea.. Play up as my financial person? Tell me my account has been drained?"
He dared another look toward the door and hummed softly. "They only want money after all." { @helenasoarcs }
Fletcher tightens the bow of his apron when he approaches the booth. The side plate and beverage are already there, so he pulls out the server pad from within the pockets to take an order. “Your server is heading out, so I’m taking over. My name is Fletcher. Is there anything else I can get for you right now?”
long, gaunt fingers thumbed through the seemingly endless array of records as some indie band's b-side track hummed through the speakers. a few of her records hadn't made it to california, be it because of poor packing or because they'd been broken in a spat long ago, but there was one that had been lost that she refused to not have.
owl-like eyes scanned the store before landing on the figure standing near the cash register. "excuse me," her voice was meek, yet held a particular sweetness in the quiet corners. "this is probably a long shot, but would you happen to have the 6 unaccompanied cello suites complete either in record or cd?"
Dalton worked dilligently when he was at the music store, this was the place he felt most like himself, when he was surrounded in music that could transport him places he didn't even recognize himself.
Today was no different, he was losing himself in the music of the store when he was pulled from his daydream.
"Ahh, Bach hmm?" He said, nodding his head as he nimbly made his way through the racks.
Thinking about what he just said he couldn't help a little chuckle. "Sorry, I just thought about a joke in an old show."
He pulled out a record and scanned it with his fingertips.
"I believe this is what you need." { @msevangeline-evans }
Holland knew what it was like to get overwhelmed by a crowd of people. The first time she'd left home and gone to a city there was a lot to look out, so many sounds, and too many smells happening all at the same time and Holland had been overwhelmed. Thankfully, she had a stranger pull her to safety inside a less busy, but still crowded coffee shop. She would always be that person to a stranger. "Of course," she replied, a smile on her face. "Any time. It can get overwhelming in crowded places." She looked at the person. "I'm Holland."
Dalton hated it in New York when his biological family sent for him. There was too much noise, too many parties. Moving back home was a far more logical choice.
People seemed to be finding out about Aurora Bay though, it was getting much busier. Not that it gave him much to complain about.
"Well, usually I'd agree but sometimes crowds can be fun. Just not when they're swarming me with decisions to make." He agreed on that.
"Dalton, I actually work at the record store so I'm only a few steps away from my home away from home." { @hollandbrights }
"Gosh, high expectations." Cirila teased, as she ran her hand through some of the garments on an open rack. "As I've said, how are they suppose to get sales if they don't badger the customers into buying stuff they don't need." She laughed.
"Not to sound too much like the people you're trying to get away from, but if you're looking for a new watch, then I don't mind helping you? I've got quite good taste, if I say so myself."
"I know, what ever are they going to do with me?" Dalton quieried. He was glad the crush of people was over at least, now he could browse a little more in peace.
"There's upselling, but upselling isn't pestering and forming a people crusher machine." Dalton laughed. "I think I might have left my feet back there."
"You know, I might have to take you up on that one. No budget, what do you have in mind?" { @ciriila }

Addison nodded as a way of letting him know she understood the thanks as she continued to pretend play in front of the salesperson, tugging him along as they slowly walked away. "I swear you'd lose your head if it wasn't attached. This why I like to remind you how much you need me."
Once they were out of anyone's eyes and more into the mall, she eased up on their linking of the arms. "You totally owe me pretzel bites for that one." @daltondallyy
Caroline felt the smile on her lips growing at his words. "Smart choice on their part." She told him teasingly- even if she had no idea who they (or he) even was. Just the same though, she wasn't about to leave the man hanging when he looked like he needed help, especially not right outside of her job.
"Unfortunately I've never been one for mysteries." She replied, laughing as she turned to face him fully and she held her hand out, "I'm Caroline. And you're just lucky I actually got out of work on time for once, otherwise you may still be held hostage back there by....whatever that was?"
Dalton was feeling a warmth in his body that was almost unfamiliar to him. He allowed himself to enjoy the sensation and, without missing a beat, leaned down to whisper in her ear.
"I don't know, I think they missed out on that front. Look at all the fun to be had." A grin firmly in place as he pulled back to remain steady.
He nodded, he was really glad she wasn't a mystery type. Made it easier to get everything out.
"Well, Caroline, I'm Dalton. I think the crowd may have eaten me alive if I stayed in their midsts for too much longer." Dalton glanced back at the crowd, shaking his head.
"If I find out what that was I'll let you know." { @thecarolinexkelly }
