This is a demonstration clip for my Studio 3 Project 3.
Studio 3 SKO Reflection
The experiences from this studio is entirely different from what I learnt before. When I was in Taiwan, we were taught to finish things in perfect. After I came to Melbourne, I studied in Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design. There were always many restrictions in our projects which limited our brain. Therefore, when I got into this studio and facing all those projects, I was a little bit disturbed and lost. Without the restrictions, I didn’t know what to do. I don’t know how to deal with this kind of sudden liberation. However, I think this is a good chance for me to adjust myself to do a project. It is all up to me and it doesn’t have to be perfect, it could be a failure as well! And this really change the way I face the projects.
For my project 1, I was not really sure if I am able to build that machine since we don’t have knowledge of electronic area but I really like my idea and desperately want to actually build it. For my project 2, this is the stage that I change a lot from my original idea since those prototypes help me to refine my idea which is much more interesting than the original one. Those frameworks Andy showed us in class are inspiring so that I can refine my idea better. Andy is an important role to me, he keeps telling me to keep trying and keep my mind open so that I can explore further and see other possibilities. For my project 3, there was a big change a well. I was desperately want to make my machine working so that I work on it until week 12. However, after talking with Andy, I realised it is difficult for me to build a working machine in a limited time. Thus, I decided to focus on the stop motion that demonstrates how my machine works and the result out of it. It was a pity that I can’t really build up a working machine but the stop motion exhibit the same result that demonstrates how my machine works. I am really satisfied with the result, it is not perfect but I like it. It is a mess but it is more than you think.
In the end, I really appreciate to have a chance to rethink of design to me and to have another way of dealing with the projects. The feedback not only from Andy but also from peers always give me a direction when I get lost or stuck. I think what I’ve learnt is much more than I thought, it is not just design, it is more like an evolution of thoughts. It can not only be used in design but also in our life. After all, mess is good, mess is more.
