It had been a tiny party. They had celebrated New Year’s eve at Derek’s place. With the sheriff and Melissa working, it had only been Stiles, Scott, Peter and of course Derek himself. Despite Peter cooking up some great food, the mood had naturally been spectacularly depressing and midnight coming and going didn’t make much of a difference.
The only good thing was Stiles being pleasantly drunk, hanging off of Peter’s arm as they walked home. It had been a nice night and Stiles had sighed melancholically: “And on top of everything it’s been another New Year’s eve where I didn’t get a kiss.”
Peter had stopped and gently cradled his chin. “Oh, sweetheart, you only had to ask.” Their lips had met and from there it had been a blur from making out, to hurrying to Peter’s place, losing their clothes and finally falling into bed. It had been glorious.
The morning after, though, was another thing. Stiles was woken by the smell of coffee. Normally a good thing but the sunlight coming through the window was hurting his eyes and sitting up made his head pound. But then he saw Peter, who sat in front of the bed, head turned towards Stiles, giving him a blinding smile and every hurt was forgotten.
“Good morning, sunshine,” he said, and Stiles turned on his stomach, robbing towards him.
When he reached Peter, he slung an arm around Peter’s neck and pressed a soft kiss to his cheek. “Morning,” he mumbled sleepily.
“Coffee?” Peter asked and was about to reach for the second cup on the floor but Stiles stopped him by grabbing Peter’s hand with his own mug. “Want yours,” he stated playfully.
Peter huffed but smiled softly while he let Stiles guide his hand. And Stiles thought that maybe, just maybe this year wasn’t going to be so bad after all.
