They do care about eachother, and they show it in their own way, Jade being really expansive with large and "loud" things and John does it in a more shy, and in my opinion even more "personal" way, let me explain.

What sealed the deal for me shipping those two has been the bday gift John sends to Jade.

The pumpkin seeds are a sweet thing, considering Jade talked about her pumpkin disappearing, shows that he listen to her and actuslly sends her something she need BUT! The t-shirt. He sends her a t-shirt with the same desing as his own, and he sent her the one he liked most! He could have kept the blue one but nope! Give it to Jade. And maybe I over-read it there but in a story where characters are color-coded, giving up a color is rather a big deal, like giving a part of self.

Another example is when they are about to leave on the prospitarian ship. John is given the option to hop on the meteor, stay with the others but nope. He decide to stay, for Jade. Giving up a big opportuniy, for her. Whats more personal than that?

Theres also the whole Prospit thing btw. And it does have quite the sad undertone if you stop thinking about it for a second. Jade has always been alone and yet in her dreams theres John! But yet he sleeps, so she wait and wait because she has seen him awake in the clouds and she does keep teasing him about, shes really looking forward to finally meet him, talk to him, stay with him. But well we all know what happens in Descend, rigth?

And speaking about sad potential, their story arc also have the same goal: to end up alone.

Is pretty made clear for Jade and she has a lot of event that ends up with her being left alone in a way or another, but if you think for a second so it is for John, he does never take the initiative, so its often sent to do errands, alone, always the last to know updates and almost left behind most of the times, ESPECIALLY after he gets the Juju power, canonically detachim himself from canon, hes always been "just there".

Let them at least be alone togheter!!!

With all the abouve being said, theres way more, but my brain rn cant work and I have wrote and deleted a large extra chunk at least 3 times.

Theyre both dork, theyre both the right amount of goof, John can be rather an asshole sometimes but Jade does compensate with being always cheerful and supportive, and they do compensate pretty well imho.

They dont have all the depth that Dave/Rose has, but they can go a bit deep, if you care enought.

Personally I always see them as "platonic with extra", they do care about eachoter, have fun staying togheter and smooches and cuddles happens.

Except the Alpha version, the Crocker fucks.
