Illyana Rasputin's Daily Damnation

(I’ve been thinking about this. Because I realize that in a franchise with a million popular characters like X-Men, it’s silly to demand that your own fave is always included. X-Men ’97 is even specifically about the period of X-history in which Illyana wasn’t around—although the animated series has always happily included anything and everything from the 80s it wants—so not having Illyana would be understandable. It’s the sheer number of almost-but-not-quites that got on my nerves a bit. But it’s not as if I’ll not be right there for the upcoming premiere.)

(I’m enjoying the Cyclops mini, it’s a solid story. Though it also illustrates my issue with the push for solo X-books, because the story feels like one that could just be part of X-Men. My entirely unbiased opinion of course being that Illyana-centric stories are bound to be distinctly different enough to make sense as a separate book. Scott is just Mr. X-Man, and we love him for it.)

Going Nazi-fighting and leaving Magneto at home is just rude.

Y'know, Marvel really missed a trick. Over at the Distinguished Competition, my favorite girl doesn't only have a solo ongoing, but is also getting a oneshot in their side-continuity (Absolute Cassandra Cain). With three pages each issue of Ultimate Illyana origin, Marvel could have easily gathered those up, added some new book-end pages and made me buy an Ultimate Magik oneshot.

*) definitely only those two things, not also the video game that I let take over my life for a while. It’s not my fault—Expedition 33 gave me a smol angsty sword girl, I didn’t have the option not to obsess. But I’ve finished that game now and just need a quick Esquie hug to recover from the emotional damage.

Poor Scott not being able to plan perfect tactics around something he doesn’t quite understand. But he should just trust it to Illyana.
