He’s received so much development in such little time.

Craig values his masculinity, just as his dad values it. This much was made clear in “Tweek x Craig” and “The Fractured but Whole” (his brutalist class reflects those values). He’s aggressive, blunt, and has a tight grip over his own emotions. All traits associated with being masculine.

However, none of this explains why he’s an excellent character. So why do I see him as such? Because Craig has shown he can take perspectives completely different from his own to solve problems and he has grown as a person as result. This growth is completely in the spotlight in “Put it Down”.

Throughout the episode, Craig tries to stick to his usual way of confronting problems: by thinking through things logically. While this may work fine for him, he’s projecting his own way of thinking onto Tweek and it doesn’t work, only leading Craig to become frustrated as well. Several of his lines throughout the episode indicate that he initially thinks of Tweek as being flawed for not being able to put logic over his emotions. That Tweek is the one at fault for not being comforted by reasoning. He even claims that Tweek doesn’t want to be helped. This is not an unusual issue when someone driven by logic is paired up with someone driven by emotion.

That attitude changes when Heidi gives her speech around the end of the episode. He realizes how he’s been going about things in the wrong way and changes his approach to Tweek. The more emotion centered approach may not be the kind of thing that would work on Craig, but it’s what TWEEK needs.

This is extremely impressive to me, because so many people can’t and/or won’t adapt in how they comfort more emotional people, especially people who value masculinity. It’s so easy to dismiss feelings as being something not worth dealing with and that being emotional is a major flaw that indicates weakness. That’s the “manly” way of seeing things. (You could also say the same thing for the reverse, logic driven people are often misinterpreted as being cold and uncaring)
