something that makes me so mad as someone who is most likely neurodivergent but undiagnosed, is the phrase "how can a smart person do such dumb things" or something along those lines. i have had multiple variations said to me in my life by multiple people. i am in courses above my grade level, and that leads people to think that my scholastic intelligence is on the same level as my emotional and social intelligence. now, i dont think my emotional and social intelligence is awful, but not on the same level to society's standards. it has been made clear to me that the standard i am held to doesnt seem to allow for the mistakes i have made in the past. i dont make entirely outrageous mistakes either, in fact most of them are beyond acceptable for others my age, but since my standard is higher its a bigger deal and its not ok. for example, misunderstanding a statement and then messing up because my brain didnt process the information how it was supposed to. its honestly just so frustrating that people think that being book smart is the hard part, so obviously i have all the rest down. yea im in college classes, but i still have the decision making skills of someone my age.
