So I’m in a musical for theater camp and I’m the main character. The dude playing my love interest and I are both gay, which makes it hilariously awkward in rehearsal. Yesterday he made me so angry because we were practicing the fake kiss our characters do, and when he brought me in he whispered “Perform heterosexuality, I must” in a perfect Yoda voice and made me laugh so hard I tripped and fell off the stage.

Do you guys wanna hear a funny story about my big sister when she was little about how she thought computers worked

I do! Just the one, who is two years older than me.

Okay so when she was really little, she asked my dad how computers worked. This is when you had those big monitors like a small old television. So my dad told her that there were little people inside and they did everything like turning it on and making the images appear and everything else. Keep in mind, my sister at this point is like… four. So she was ready to accept that tiny people made computers work, no questions asked.

A little while later the computer was no longer working and my dad didn’t really know what to do with it, so he took it out in the backyard to smash it with a hammer. Just because I guess. Well anyway, my sister starts BAWLING right as he’s about to. Like just completely loses it. And my dad is like “what’s wrong? what’s wrong?”

And my sister, who’s about 4 years old, screams, “ALL THE LITTLE PEOPLE ARE GONNA ESCAAAAAAAAPE!”

She didn’t care about the people getting hurt or squished. She didn’t want them to get out.

My dad had also forgotten he’d told her this and was extremely confused for several minutes, until he remembered he’d told her that the computer was run by tiny people.

So yeah. It’s one of my favorite stories and a hilarious example of how a child’s mind can work.

This reminds me of something that happened when I was three. A lovely little show by the name of Barney the Dinosaur premiered around that time, and my parents, being the loving, doting parents that they were, gave me a stuffed Barney doll.

Which was great until the day my dad told me that a man was inside Barney. Looking back with the knowledge of an adult, I understand that he was referring to the fact that Barney in the show was portrayed by a man in a costume.

…my young mind chose to interpret that as ‘there’s a little man inside of your Barney doll’.

Needless to say, I never felt the same about that doll again.
