There's a haunting feeling to the fact that at Aki's lowest points in the series she ditches the physical mask and cloak that gave a barier between what she thinks are her worst traits but almost fully…for want of better word 'incarnates' as the persona of The Black Rose Witch, and these moments tend to come out while she's dealing with someone who can only see her at her worst, as a monster…so if she's seen as a monster, she might as well act like one

But then Yusei spends his duel fighting this facade for most of their duel, allowing himself to take more pain than he needs too (and in fact not going for a win earlier because his victory was secondary to saving essentially a stranger at that point's soul)

And to skip ahead to the end of the series, to defeat the failed embodiment of hope turned to nihilist Z-One who is essentially the Anti-Yusei, the card that allows Stardust Dragon to change Fate, 'Converging Wishes' has a draconic angel…that looks a lot like Aki.

From a witch who sought only to cause pain because she had only received it to a symbol of taking the strength, along with Yusei and her friends, to claim a chance to change the future for the better.

This will forever be my favorite Aki art that I have ever stumbled across.#The uses of black shading matches perfectly to what Aki was during her time in the first season of 5Ds.#With the mask lingering by her side!!!!#Nobody in this fandom talks enough about Divine has mentally affected her to the point she still couldn't let him go.#As he was her only sense of belonging. Someone who accepted her but she was a lost and vulnerable child who had no one else but herself.#The red light!! Works so perfectly! To be apart of her that she couldn't let go...#I genuinely wish they could have done more with her as potential in 5ds has always gone to waste but oh Aki..#The hand is also close to reaching towards the mask... Only way to be loved is to be hidden from the world as they said. :(#I will forever be thankful for this art piece to exist. It's beautiful and painful.#aki izayoi
