“dude,  c'mon.”  jules  half  laughed,  fingers  tapping  on  the  kitchen  counter.  she  could  see  right  through  him  and  had  to  divert  his  attention  elsewhere.  otherwise  it  was  going  to  blow  up  in  his  face.  “she's  with  garrett.  and  you're  not  the  guy  who  tries  to  steal  his  best  friend's  girlfriend.”  cheek  resting  on  her  palm,  “how  far  are  you  gonna  take  this?  it's  not  like…”  her  brows  furrowed.  “are  you  in  love  with  hannah?”

“that's  not  –  god,  dean,  you  are  so  fucking  delusional!  we  had  this  conversation  in  your  room  over  a  month  ago  and  you  didn't  say  no!  we  were  both  on  board.”  or  at  least  she  thought  they  were.  he  hadn't  said  anything  to  the  contrary.  allie  swept  a  curl  away  from  her  face  and  stared  back  at  him,  exasperated.  “that  is  so  unfair  and  you  know  it.”  she  told  him.  “don't  act  like  i'm  the  villain  here.  like  i  don't…  feel  the  same  way.”  and  she  did  deep  down.  but  the  fear  of  getting  hurt  again  was  overwhelming.  dean  was  the  type  of  guy  that  would  break  her  if  she  gave  him  the  chance.  “it's  complicated,  okay?  this  isn't  easy  for  me.” 

now  she  felt  like  the  asshole.  “it's  not  an  excuse,  dan.  all  i  was  doing  was  explaining  what  the  job  was  and  what  happened.  how  i  got  into  it  in  the  first  place.  that's  it.”  debbie  said  in  one  breath.  she  felt  like  a  teenager  being  scolded  by  their  father  again.  when  he  looked  out  the  window,  she  noticed  his  body  stiffen  right  away.  “hey,  i  appreciate  it.  obviously  if  you  hadn't  of  shown  up  when  you  did,  i'd  probably  be  in  the  back  of  a  police  cruiser  right  now.  but  …  i  was  trying  to  help  lou  out  of  a  jam  and  there  was  a  time  crunch.  if  i'd  had  another  hour  maybe  i  could've  –  how  did  you  even  know  about  any  of  this?  or  where  i  was?"

“jesus  h  christ,  dex."  deb  sighed,  chewing  hard  on  her  mint  gum.  it  was  the  only  way  to  combat  the  anxiety.  being  hunted  by  some  psycho  she'd  put  away  wasn't  exactly  a  good  time.  “don't  make  promises  you  can't  keep.  you've  already  lied  to  me  for,  what,  my  whole  life?  up  until  a  few  months  ago.”  she  snorted,  arms  folding  behind  her  head.  she  knew  making  him  feel  awful  for  hiding  being  a  serial  killer  was  counter  productive.  that  he  was  incapable  of  feeling  remorse.  still,  the  bile  kept  spewing.  “actually,  fuck  that.  you're  probably  still  lying  to  me.”
