Naserian Lost in Turkana | A child wanders the ancient shores of Turkana, searching for truth among fractured stories, drowned cities, salt winds, and celestial signs. This poem blends African mysticism, memory, geology, and myth into a dreamlike journey through one of Earth’s oldest landscapes.

Inspired by tanka poetry and the haunting beauty of Lake Turkana, this piece explores confusion, ancestry, silence, and the fragile line between history and legend.

This Desert Rose blooms fiercely against the wind,

her petals bright above a horizon lined with ancient stones — markers of the path where seers once surrendered their names to sand and silence.

Beyond them, the cliffs continue their slow erosion into memory, each grain carried away like a whispered prophecy.

Yet, curiosity walks here barefoot.

I wonder: if I were to kneel among these palms and offer even the smallest trace of myself to the thirsty earth, what sleeping codes would awaken beneath the roots?

What old kinships between salt, bone, blossom, and blood would stir in the dark?

Perhaps the flowers would lean closer. Perhaps the cliffs, despite their crumbling, would remember that all living things are archives — temporary vessels carrying oceans, ancestors, and starlight within them.

move through the wetlands at dusk

while small yellow petals tremble nearby—

proof that gentleness survives

beside immense power,

that softness is not surrender,

that even in a world of bones

something still chooses

to bloom.
