Girlhood at a Lorde Concert — ✨

Nashville Night 2 was stunning, I went alone as I usually do. I’ve been listening to Lorde since her first album (I was 10! Crazy!) and no one I knew was a big fan, sometimes it’s more fun to be a crazy fan alone.

The set list? Killer. Her vibes? Stunning. The lighting? The sound? To die for!

No Better live was so much fun, even though some people didn’t know it. Everyone was alive, fun, and easy to talk to. I made friends with the girls around me and after the concert when I went to take fun confetti pics- at least 3 others ran over with their groups to help take videos or pictures for me. It felt like a big sleepover, the kind you have at 14 when you talk about crushes and lame teachers. There was that giddy late night vibe where you’re having too much fun to sleep, tomorrow is Monday but you don’t want the night to end.

It was the kind of concert where I start to understand why groupies do what they do haha. I wish I had thousands of dollars to spend on tickets and planet tickets to see her again and again. It felt like I was somehow 12 year old me and 22 year old me at the same time, each girl watching the stage from each eye, listening from each ear, hearing and seeing different versions of reality.

I was nervous to start this book because so many people disliked this and said it was worse than Red Queen. But honestly I really liked it! It had some sections that were a little slower than the first book, since there was a decent amount of politics and planning but altogether it had some amazing moments.

The subtle romance of Cal and Mare are stunning as always but are very subtle in this book. Tensions run high but I found myself really starting to love expanse of characters. My favorite quote between Mare and Cal on page 248:

“But my hands close over his, our fingers lacing, until our bones are woven together. The fire is dying, flames reduced to embers. But Cal is still here. He will never leave me.”

The book really does help deepen your understanding of how sick Maven is, further twisting the blade in your gut. One of my favorite quotes from this book was only 21 pages in (When describing Maven):

“When he turns his head, his crown slips, too big for his skull. Even the metal knows it does not belong to him.”

But I truly didn’t expect his to pull what he did in the epilogue..! The entire book is littered with his letters insisting she will return at some point, so I assumed, as fate would have it she would. But a man to leash a woman to parade her around in shame? Jaw. Dropped.

It’s yellow tinged and crusted but I still keep it on the shelf.

I have your pjs on my nightstand but threw that old wallet in the trash.

A candle that smells like your perfume, unburnt on my desk.

Cause I can’t handle the thought of smelling you one last time,

I’ll take quick whiffs on my way to work and seal it just as fast.

I haven’t decided what’s worth keeping and what’s worth leaving in the past.
