Tom grinned, watching Archie's reaction to his absolutely terrible attempt at his impression and shaking his head, washing down any type of embarrassment another type of person might have felt with a gulp of beer and letting his eyes settle against the other's face once more. He was gorgeous, that much was obvious, good looking enough for Tom to throw his inhibitions to the wind - not that it took much of a push for him to do that. Still, a pretty face made Tom's clarity fade and his impulses take over - which usually only ended in trouble for him.
"Inara? She's a shephard/retreiver mix. Bit of a mutt, but she's an angel, saved my life really." His dog was family, however sad that might seem, he'd never been unhappy - especially since he'd gotten his dog. "You should get one, best decision I ever made, honestly. Don't know what I'd do without my girl." He spoke sincerely before nodding again and letting out a short laugh, "Ahβ¦the family business. We're in construction actually. I'm a liscenced carpenter. It's not as exciting as it seems honestly." He explained, capentry had never been a passion of his, he'd only completed the training at the urging of his older brother, but he supposed it was good to have that to fall back on, since travel wasn't exactly a feasible career option.
"Maybe a little worriedβ¦" He teased back, biting his lower lip as Archie explained that he was an artist. "Well I can't say that I'm very artistic, but I've heard I'd make a good nude modelβ¦if you ever need one of those."
part of him hated how easy this was, to sit here and pretend to be somebody who he wasn't. a single man, no real responsibilities, just out for the night in the hopes of picking up a stranger. archie had to remind himself that this was just a little game, this was a fleeting moment that he'd forget about when he crawled into bed with his wife later that evening and he'd be back to his real life. tom, as handsome as he was, wasn't going to be a fixture in his life.
"inara," archie repeated, "that's a lovely name. she sounds gorgeous. i've heard that with dogs though, they manage to just, i dunno. bring you comfort, i guess, when maybe another person can't do that." huh, maybe that was why he was so desperate for a companion; archie yearned for an unconditional type of love that would always be reciprocated. "it's on the cards, definitely. i'd love a newfoundland; i've always been a fan of big dogs."
as tom explained more of his job, archie listened intently, brows raising at the mention of carpentry. "aye no, i think it's interesting. i've always been jealous of anyone who does labourin' work -- i can just about build ikea furniture and even then, i get fucked off because i swear they purposely add in bits that don't fit." though, it could be because archie thought himself to be better than the instructions and convinced himself every time that he could just wing it. "are you like a bit of a handyman or do you work on big project builds?" if this had been in a different life, archie would have most certainly made a comment about needing tom to "fix" things around the house. "i don't doubt that you would," the man then commented, lowering his glass to the table. fuck, now he was picturing the other naked. "what's the rest of your evenin' lookin' like? 'cause, i think i could need that tonight." as he spoke, archie gently placed a hand on the other's thigh, lightly squeezing with his fingers. this wasn't what was supposed to happen.
