I recently reread the backstory I wrote for her and now I’m chewing on drywall #selfies are the intersection of two of my favourite things. mermaids and seals. of course I’m obsessed with them #and I do think that when Alasie gets her coat back she spends a lot of time as a seal #making up for the years she lost. she feels more at home in the water than she ever did on land #maybe that’s how she and Suiren meet. Once upon a time, long long ago, or more precisely, six years to the day, one @katkastrofa stumbled upon a certain incorrect quotes blog that frequently featured Red Lotus content, and decided to message the blog owner to let her know how much she liked her posts

It is of utmost importance that the blog owner not ignore the message and find it in herself to write back. It will end up being the best decision of her life

Or, in slightly less dramatic terms, today, May 3rd, is mine and Kat’s friendship anniversary!! No matter how busy both of us may be, we’re still the very best of friends and I love and cherish her so, so, so much. And of course, I had to make something to commemorate the occasion:

The reasoning as to why I chose Ehuang to draw is a little cheesy and mushy, but do I care? Not at all. The gist is, I like to assign birthdays to my OCs. I don’t go off zodiacs or some other symbolism, just vibes usually, with the exception of Suiren whose birthday I made the Winter Solstice very, very intentionally. Midori is August 11th, Haya is March 1st, etc etc. So when it came time to pick a birthday for Ehuang… really, only one date felt right in my mind. In our multiverse, Ehuang is truly the manifestation of everything good and pure, a sign that everything is finally right with the world, a perfect mix of her big family, so it felt wrong to give her any other birthday but our friendship anniversary, the one day during that awful year where things were just a little less awful

A little peak into what @katkastrofa and I have been coming up with for the past three days or so, regarding one of our oldest and yet far too ignored AUs, Under the Oak’s Shade, where P’Li’s old firebending teacher rescues Suiren and Midori from Haya and takes them up north to raise in peace with her bloodbending lesbian lover.

In this verse, Suiren is more a healer than a fighter, and the first time she truly stepped outside the role of being merely her grandma’s assistant was when she took initiative in saving a newborn who, along with its mother, almost died during birth. So here is 12 y.o. Renny, looking more Water Tribe than in seven years of previous drawings combined (I do love painting the white fur), maybe a couple of weeks after the incident, coming to check up on the tiny thing :)

#my art #artists on tumblr #the legend of korra #Kat and Nia and their multiverse of madness #Under the Oak’s Shade #original characters #sotrl suiren #technically UtOS Suiren but that’s just the tag I use on everything regarding her #it’d get too confusing otherwise #anyway. it’s nearly four a.m and I should really get to bed so I don’t have many tag rambles in me #but I’ve decided to name that baby Mikiruq. meaning ‘small’. or just Miki for short #I imagine she was probably rather tiny for a good while after her birth so the name fits #Suiren is of course always a welcome presence in their house #mikiruq’s parents literally owe her everything. they’re always happy to let Suiren check in on the little darling #and Suiren is perhaps a but too overprotective at first. sometimes spending hours watching her sleep just making sure that she’s breathing #and the only thing that snaps her out of it is her family coming to fetch her #but with time she grows out of it. let her indulge a little it’s the first life she saved #and I imagine she’ll will end up becoming somewhat of a big sister figure for mikiruq #occasionally babysitting her and the like. and once mikiruq is old enough to actually recognise people she always lights up seeing renny #she reminds Suiren a little of Midori. how could she not love that child?#and no. she’s not replacing Midori in any way. she still spends wayyy more time with her actual sister #I just think that Suiren can have an extra little sister sometimes. as a treat #(the treat being that it’s not as angsty as most of the scenarios where the extra sister is Nazra. not counting the ultimate au ofc)#or what. is Midori the only one who can collect siblings? in canon verse she has like. 5 little siblings and just as many siblings in law #it’s Suiren’s turn #okay I said I wasn’t gonna ramble and yet here I am. getting close to the tag limit again #I’m really gonna shut up and try to get some sleep now #if Kat wants to she can ramble about this too #and now I really wanna design a slightly older mikiruq…. I tend to think that I’ve let her go #until the anniversary. every year on the anniversary I’m reduced to tears #April 12th can never be anything else. every year there’s a country wide celebration of the anniversary of gagarin’s flight to space #this year it’s even orthodox easter sunday. and yet I can only think of her #I’ve been missing her longer than I’ve known her. her time in this world was far. far too brief #and the worst part is that I’ve forgotten so much about her. movies I will never get back #I never got to say goodbye. it sounds so ridiculous but on that day I was dealing with the worst constipation imaginable #I spent hours in the bathroom. last time I saw her was sometime in the early afternoon after getting home from school #she was laying under a tree in the yard. I saw her and thought it looked unnatural. I asked mom and she found it odd too #but shrugged it off as her looking for shade from the sun. I don’t know if she was already dead by then #all I know is that when I finally emerged from the bathroom I was met with my mom staring at me. absolutely devastated #I didn’t get to say goodbye. I don’t know what they did with her. whether she’s buried or burned or throw out like trash #I’m too scared to ask.#the next morning mom never said anything about her again. and so neither did I. we almost never talked about her and now I’ve forgotten #I struggle badly to remember her mannerisms. the sound of her bark. even how she looked like.#most pictures I had were destroyed along with my tablet in October 2020. what’s in the post is almost everything I have left #in the past year and a half it’s gotten even harder to remember. the image of Honeybun is superimposed upon the memory #there was a reason why when my mom started looking at cavaliers I specifically asked for a black one #I couldn’t bear the thought of having a dog that looks just like the one I lost. I didn’t want to associate white and brown with anyone else #and still. inadvertently. the image muddles. how could it not. I was a child back then. I’ve forgotten a lot from my childhood #including my childhood dog. it’s only natural. but I can’t help but blame myself for it #I wasn’t the best dog owner. I was a kid. she went ignored a lot when I had more fun things to do #now I wish I spent more time with her. now I let honeybun sleep in my bed and take thousands of pictures that I post #to make sure I never lose all traces of her like I did with Fanny. their names rhyme in Russian. every time someone misspeaks I want to cry #I don’t think I’ll ever not cry about her. she died when I was 12 going on 13. almost a year later covid hit. my childhood died with her #I don’t know if the seven year cell change is true. but I do know that my teenage years left me a completely different person regardless.

I’m posting it now #last year Kat and I talked about what Haya may have ended up as had her parents not died and I cannot get the thought out of my head #look at her. gorgeous. confident. happy #not hung up on the past #not turned bitter and cruel after losing everyone she loved #not endlessly mourning her parents #not so codependently attached to her brother that him leaving breaks her #not exhausted beyond her years by hard work #and most of all. not the vile excuse for a guardian that she ended up being for her nieces #in a verse like this.. I have no doubts she’d be fond of them #alas…….#I do really love her design here. and the vague bits and pieces we’ve come up for her #yes she’s an abusive piece of shit and her past is no excuse #yes I cry for her and deeply wish she doesn’t die alone and miserable #the situation contains multitudes #whichever way you spin in and whatever you think of her. she’s still easily my most emotionally conflicting character #and I love her but I hate her but I love her #well. at least in one au she got to be truly happy. her narrative isn’t always doomed #at least in one au she got to live up to her full potential #a.k.a. lore drop time. Haya’s an earthbender. a sandbender to be more specific #she just never knew it. she was a late bloomer so it wasn’t discovered in childhood. both her parents are nonbenders so she assumed the same #but in a different world. one where she got to visit the desert and reconnect with her roots. it would have shown through #but history has no room for what ifs and would haves. and so she will always remain the woman on the right

Something a bit different from what I usually post – last month both my uni groupmate and I fucked up our chance of filling a free spot (we had three drop outs last semester) in the exact same ridiculously pathetic way, so to cheer her up I drew her OC Hel from her story, Winter’s Greatest Loser!

(don’t ask me any more details, I know very little about the whole thing except that it’s set in the future on a space station (I found this out three months after following her art channel))

The Swamp Spirit is Suiren. These two, Kesari and Kang-Mi, are her neighbours from up the road, twins the same age as her and the daughters of Rani, who was the childhood best friend and ex crush of Suiren’s abusive aunt. Suiren is ostracised in her community, to the point kids are picking up on the adults’ behaviour and think it’s fine to bully her. Not like she has anyone to stand up for her anyway….. One day, the twins steal a ribbon from her hair, which unbeknownst to them was one of the last keepsakes she has left from her parents. Their mom brings it back to Suiren and all is seemingly well, but the incident firmly cements it in Suiren’s mind that truly nobody is on her side, not even her peers.)

#my art #artists on tumblr #Kat and Nia and their multiverse of madness #original characters #I finished this last year and included it in my 2025 art vs artist but only now realise I never posted it #so far the theme of my 2026 art posts is ‘Suiren having the absolute worst time of her fucking life’#she just wanted to feel pretty for once goddamnit!!#at this point she spent almost half her life insulted and degraded every single fucking day. she just wanted to feel pretty #and all it lead to was someone deciding the swamp spirit isn’t deserving of such nice things #and again. Rani gives it back. but you just know Suiren never found the courage to wear it again #I don’t explore it nearly enough but it breaks my heart that Suiren is hated so much that even kids join in #and she truly doesn’t have anyone. only Midori who is three years younger and isn’t an ally but someone to protect in Suiren’s eyes #if Suiren fights back in any way and it makes its way back to Haya….. Suiren will be the one punished #it’s easier to keep her head down and avoid conflict when she can #she probably doesn’t go outside much at all. Haya hating her is enough without being aware that everyone else does too #my poor sweet girl….. why do I do this to you??#she deserves a childhood where she gets to indulge in all the ribbons and pretty frilly dresses she loves so much all she wants #but alas. not in this particular verse

#my art #artists on tumblr #art vs artist 2025 #original characters #Kat and Nia and their multiverse of madness #technically there are like…. two and a half canon characters on here #but I don’t care enough to tag tbh I’ve been up all night #when I tell you Procreate crashed like three times on me…..#I did 4096 by 4096 pixels so the quality of everything is good #and I upped the dpi on all my canvases recently cause I realised it was set hella low #and with all the art plus the photos…. yeah my tablet was STRUGGLING #we made it but.. yeah it’s definitely overheating slightly #also I was playing around with colour settings and read that cmyk is better for printing than rby so I tried it out #*rbg. but who cares #yeah idk about printing but it dulls the colours of everything pasted into a canvas set to it by A LOT #and I only realised when I pasted in the last piece on the 2024 version #so I had to repaste EVERYTHING on a new rbg canvas so it’s all nice and saturated #and yet tumblr’s gonna ruin it anyway……. SAD #also yeah hi my face is on here. don’t do that often #summer 2024 was peak depression era….. picture was me in the sunrise after yet another sleepless night #ironically right now I’m up after a sleepless night once again but. I’m naturally nocturnal leave me alone #anyway I think you can tell by my eyes how done I was with everything. 2025 sucked but mentally I was def doing better #picture is from my high school graduation. one of the only pics I actually like of myself so I shove it everywhere #but imo my 2024 art was better.. on occasion. but I also drew a lot more cause it was a very oc heavy year #2025 wise I am hella proud of my little renny in the rain art. also based on this guess who my fave oc is lmao #I love Suiren I love dramatic lighting I love pretty girls from the waist up (bunch of these are full body but shhh)#I love how you can just see all stages of Suiren here. poor wet meow meow. unhinged feral killer. lovey dovey with Kuvira #and all the bajillion different AUs I shove her into. curse of the face character. but tbh I peaked with the Malina portrait #never could quite replicate that again… it’s like something possessed me. So here, a horror-esque piece inspired by our latest still unnamed AU where Suiren goes off the rails and tears apart everyone who ever hurt her 🫠🫠🫠

The lyrics are from “У хозяина болота” by Сны Саламандры, which I’ve been saying has some intense Suiren vibes for a while. I highly recommend the song even if you don’t speak Russian, the vibes are immaculate

Passing eyes, making themselves comfortable with the ghastly sight by pretending that she's not really there - not a being of this world, but truly the accursed thing Haya recognized in her.
