Charlie looks up from where she had been laying down and coloring, silent and patient as she listens to her papa talk as he enters the living room. She can see some of it. Hints at what he’s trying to not say in the way his face and eyes-. 

“It’s okay papa, really. I don’t mind just trick-or-treating. Maaaaaybe David can come if he wants to? If u-uncle Edwin says it's okay?” 

The thought of her cousin all alone up in the manor while all the other kids are out trick-or treating…..well it makes Charlie’s stomach hurt just a little.  They can’t do anything out there if it’s Sammy and their cousin coming along, but she didn’t mind! They can be something nice and soft, there’s always next year to be a scary vampire or spooky witch.

“I can help you make the costumes!”

She carefully moves to sit up, readjusting her glasses for those little eyes to look up at him so big.

“I’ve never ever made a costume before, but I'm really good at figurin’ stuff out.” 

[Henry smiled weakly, relieved that Charlie didn't show even a twinge of disappointment. He cared deeply about his children, so breaking the news that they wouldn't be returning to Fall Fest was...intimidating. Yet Charlie took that news in stride, even proposing ideas for how to make this Halloween just as fun as all of those prior. He was so proud of her.]

[At the idea of inviting David, Henry nodded, quietly revering Charlie's thoughtfulness. It was a given that he'd extend the invitation, but with how Edwin had reacted to his loss, Henry had an inkling that he wouldn't want to leave the house. That didn't mean David had to stay, though. If anything, Henry would prefer getting the poor kid out of the house. Perhaps that way, David wouldn't have to associate tragedy with Halloween. Henry was certainly trying not to.]

He understood Edwin's loss, really -- Fiona was his sister, his twin, his other half, after all -- but Edwin had allowed his grief to affect his relationship with his own child. It didn't take a genius to understand the dynamic of the Murray family; Fiona was the caretaker, and Edwin was the aloof breadwinner. He didn't seem to understand the importance of being present for his child, let alone helping his child through their grief. David was on his own.]

[Charlie broke him out of his lamentation by cheerfully offering to help make the costumes, which got a delighted chuckle out of Henry. Here he was, bitter over how his brother-in-law treated his child, while his daughter cheerfully offered ways to keep their Halloween as fun as ever.]

[She gave him puppy-dog eyes through her thick glasses; Henry wouldn't have turned her down regardless ( his daughter would be participating in the family business! ), but his heart was warmed by her enthusiasm. He stood so that he could scoop her up in his arms and hold her tightly, appreciative and proud.]

He crosses his arms in thought, tilting his head to the side as well. She was just stuck in the moment she died. She wasn't thinking rationally. How could he assuage her pain without angering her further? He doesn't want to make an enemy out of his friend. He just wants to be there for her plain and simple.

[In a roundabout way, it sounded like Michael agreed with her.]

[Yes, she'd been killed by Michael's father...but it wouldn't have happened if the damned parents in this damned town had just LISTENED to her. They were responsible, too -- more than William had ever been. And with William dead, there was no one else to direct her anger at. She knew this already -- well, not about William's death, but at the fact that her anger was rightfully placed in the adults of Hurricane, Utah.]

[So why did it seem like Michael was also trying to talk her out of attacking them?]

❝ You said it yourself. My anger isn't "misplaced" if they're the only ones I can blame. ❞ [She narrowed her eyes, trying to determine what Michael's intentions actually were. He sounded sorry, but there was really only one way to find out if that was the truth.] ❝ You said that you understand. So why am I still here? Why aren't I out there, where I can ACTUALLY protect the kids of this stupid town? ❞

It was always like this with her. There was nothing that Mike could say to the revenge seeking spirit that would calm her down. Cassidy was a lost cause in that regard. But that doesn't mean he wouldn't try. He would always try. Never changing his words, always an attempt to get her to see he's not lying.

"I'm nothing like my father. One accidental death doesn't make me like him. He's killed so many kids of his own accord. Manipulative, abusive. I merely was a dumb teenager who, with my friends mind you, shoved my baby brother into an animatronic. How was I supposed to know Fredbear didn't have safety mechanisms that would stop him from chomping on his head. I didn't know that. I didn't know anything." He takes in a deep breath to try and calm himself down. It helped a bit.

"Be angry at me all you want. Call me a murderer all you want, but never compare me to William Afton. I am nothing like him."

Glowing purple eyes stare into the black and white of Cassidy's spirit. He can barely feel her small hands gripping his throat, the nerves in there long since paralyzed.

[As far as Cassidy was concerned, there were no "accidents" when it came to the Aftons. Murder was murder, and Michael had tortured his little brother...just like William had done to her.]

❝ Don't play dumb with me!! ❞ [That was all this was -- excuse after excuse, trying to recuse himself from Cassidy's wrath. Nothing he could say would convince her that he was anything but a ruthless, cold-blooded killer, and it was a perfect time to remind him of that. No restraints. Nothing to keep her from getting revenge...for Evan, this time.] ❝ "Accidental." ❞ [She cackled, her white pupils turning red.] ❝ Don't tell me that Evan's death WASN'T intentional. You and your friends ALL deserve to burn. Do you wanna hear what Evan really thought? Hmm? ❞

[A malicious grin curled onto her features. She was certain that this would be a heavy blow to Michael, and Evan wasn't here to censor her anymore.]

❝ He was traumatized by what you did to him. You think William was abusive and manipulative? You were just as bad as him. Do you wanna know how many times I'd hear him crying? How many times he needed to vent, just to get it off of his mind? ❞ [She paused dramatically, her wicked smile turning into a scowl.] ❝ Every. Single. Day. He couldn't forget what you did to him -- and that's saying a lot. Out of all of us, he was the only one who remembered his life, and it was because he spent it in fear. He was terrified of you. That was the only reason he didn't want me to kill you -- because he was so scared of you joining us. ❞

[A bit fictitious, but it wasn't an exaggeration. Evan was more haunted by the week leading up to his death than any night guard at Freddy's had ever been. Sure, he might have told her a few times that he wanted to reconcile with Michael, that he wanted to give Michael closure...but that didn't change anything. Michael didn't deserve forgiveness.]

❝ You're HIS kid. You're telling me you didn't know Fredbear's jaw would crush him? Yeah, right. You knew Fredbear's well enough that you had keys for Parts & Service. You should have known how little safety mattered there. And besides...what kind of SICKO tries to push their brother into an animatronic's jaw!? ❞

❝ I'll tell you who: the kind of sicko who takes after his father. ❞

[Cassidy snarled at his excuse, going back and forth between squeezing harder and letting him go. Dammit. She knew her afterlife well enough to know that his suit had to be destroyed before she could get a firm grip on his soul. In fact, if she attacked without eradicating his vessel first, then there would be two Aftons to worry about ( Michael aside ); the one in the suit, and the one Cassidy could actually punish. There was an alternative -- with enough concentration and agony, she possessed the ability to kill with her touch alone -- but that would just mean William would be destroyed without giving her the opportunity to torture him, and that just wouldn't do.]

[Fuck.]

[She thought over her options, then tightened her grip on Michael's throat once more. She wouldn't kill him yet. First, she had to know one thing.]

Oh....oh was he being too mean? Fuck. He backs off and just sits down on the couch. He didn't mean to yell at Sammy. He didn't deserve Mike's wrath. He has anger issues, he'll admit to that, and trauma up his ass.

[Sammy sniffled and wiped his eyes. It might have been silly to get so upset over being yelled at, but...he'd become a lot more sensitive, more fearful, ever since what happened to Charlie -- ever since he'd seen the monster that was Mr. Afton. Maybe that's what made this so much scarier. Michael was Mr. Afton's son, and he bore an uncanny resemblance to Mr. Afton. Being yelled at by him struck at the core of Sammy's deepest fears.]

[Unlike Mr. Afton, though, Michael apologized to him. He admitted that Sammy hadn't done anything wrong, that snapping at him hadn't been warranted. It didn't make his latent terror go away, but it did help him feel the slightest bit better.]

"I'm sorry." [Sammy signed with shaky hands, even though apologizing to Michael wasn't necessary. Excessive apologies had just become instinct over the past few months. "I'm sorry" was the first sign he'd memorized, thanks to all the repetition. His hands hovered in the air for a moment, thinking his next message over carefully. In rudimentary sign language, he continued.] "I don't want to be scared anymore."

[Simple, but to the point. He was so tired of being terrified, but he couldn't control it. His circumstances were devastating and deeply traumatizing. From the way his father no longer acknowledged him to the continued presence of Mr. Afton in their lives, he felt insignificant and unwanted. His mom had even asked if he'd like to stay with her in the event of a divorce, but in doing so, she treated Charlie's death like an annoyance. Like he and Henry were to blame for her unhappiness because they cared so deeply. "A lot" massively toned down the agony that had become his life.]

[...But it toned down the agony of Michael's life, too. Sammy wasn't the only one suffering an unbearable, earth-shattering loss. Michael was, too...albeit one caused by his own hand. Sammy hadn't been there to see the carnage -- he couldn't go back to Fredbear's -- but perhaps that was for the best. If he'd seen what happened, he might not be able to speak to Michael at all. And given that Michael would be staying with them indefinitely, well...he wouldn't have been able to stay in his own house at all.]

"A lot." [Sammy repeated, then let his hands fall. One squeezed the homemade Fredbear plush in his lap, and he held the other to his mouth, biting at the skin of his fingers. He was wary of being too open with Michael, but Michael was also the strongest person he knew...second only to Charlie. He wanted help. He needed to talk to somebody. Yet...the only people he could trust anymore were the kids of the scariest monster he'd ever known.] "I don't know what I'm supposed to do. I don't know how to keep..." [Sammy's hands shook, too fearful to admit that he sometimes thought about joining Charlie. Sometimes it felt like that was the only thing that could fix him.]

[Funny how the only people who listened to her now -- ghosts aside -- WERE adults. She should be happy to be heard, but it instead strengthened her agony. Now that she was dead, they'd hear her out? It wasn't fair. It was too damned late for anything to change. Being listened to wouldn't help her anymore.]

❝ Then you understand why they don't deserve to live. ❞ [Her head rose to look at Michael, a pleading expression poking through her despair and anger. If he truly wanted to listen to her, to help her, then he'd free her.] ❝ Justice would be putting them through the same pain they put me through. Justice would be killing them before they can hurt their children. All of those kids would be so much safer if it weren't for them! ❞

[Michael's words didn't calm her, obviously. His remorse never felt genuine to her -- not that she could ever believe or forgive her suit mate's killer. Cassidy's grudges were nothing if not persistent. Absolutely nothing Michael could say would relieve her of her anger. Unfortunately for him, that meant that Cassidy would confront him every single time he dared to show his face to her.]

❝ The POINT? ❞ [The room around her pulsed, a reflection of her anger; lights flickered, and every loose paper or decoration flew across the room, as though a massive gust of wind had hit them.] ❝ Don't lie to me! You DON'T care! You've never, EVER cared about what you did to him! You made him SUFFER. You TORTURED him. You KILLED him. You're a murderer, just like your dad. He'll never change, and you can't change either. A killer doesn't stop being a killer because he feels "regret." You won't ever change. EVER. ❞

[Her apparition lunged, little, translucent hands grappling Michael's throat and squeezing.]
