Niamh rolled her eyes at the sight of her best friend covered in cheese and chilli. She couldn’t help but stare because if she said anything she was afraid she’d be inhaled along with the food. As he spoke she chuckled shaking her head. ‘’What have you been deprived of food your whole life? slow down you’re going to bite your fingers off. And contrary to popular belief I don’t think your limbs will grow back’’

Immediately the sight of Niamh had the warlock’s eyes lighting up, happy to see his best friend. “Hey, you don’t know that for sure. Besides, biting my fingers off wouldn’t be the worst thing, as long as they were covered in cheese sauce.”

With an ever so slightly clenched jaw, dark, fire fuelled eyes were focused on the overtly drunk male whom had made a beeline for her the moment he saw her leave Caleb’s side. No matter how disgusted she appears by the man’s presence, apparently nothing was going to defer him from trying it on with her. The ravenette should have been used to asshole men by now but, there was something about the way he was glowering at her, and the way his hands kept moving to touch her that just didn’t sit right with her at all. “Keep those dirty little hands to yourself.” Cassie snapped, twisting and turning to get away from the man. Shooting a hopeful glance in Caleb’s direction, the raven haired beauty was thrilled to see her best friend coming toward her. 

As he swung his arm around her shoulder, she immediately relaxed, her heart rate returning to normal as she shuffled ever so slightly behind the tall form of her best friend. Honestly, if Caleb had taken any longer, Cassie may have had to use other means to get rid of the man. As risky as it was to use her magic in public, she’d much rather have gotten out of the situation than have to entertain another moment of the man’s time. The words that left Caleb’s mouth made a slight frown settle on her face. Though she couldn’t ignore the feeling hearing him call her babe gave her. Within seconds, the confusion was gone, and she was playing along with his ruse. Wrapping an arm around his torso, she held her petite form close to his, smiling in content. Perhaps she could take advantage of this situation, especially if it meant being close to Caleb. “Not a friend, I don’t even know the guy.” Cassie then rolled her eyes, groaning. 

Seeing this protective side of Caleb made her heart swell, and her affections for him only grow. God, she hadn’t thought it possible. Peering up at the lanky male, Cassie could have sworn that she felt her heart flutter. She sometimes felt ridiculous, fawning over someone that would likely never be hers. “I’ve told him that I’m not interested but apparently, he can’t speak understand simple English.” The witch sighed, rolling her eyes once again as she eyed the man. 

The taller man could feel Cassie tense under his touch, and he could only hope she wouldn’t react badly to the way he was getting her out of this seemingly unpleasant conversation. Either way, he made a mental note to apologise to her about their close proximity, even after she nestled into his side. Though they were often close with one another this was different. The way his hand held her waist send a strange spark through the warlock. The combination of the drinks and the stargazing could most likely be to blame, and as he held his best friend he could feel how uncomfortable she was from the situation.

“Well from the sounds of it my girl here wants you to back off buddy.” the words came out friendly, but the stoic look in his eyes said anything but, eyebrows narrowed, daring the other man to say another word to Cassie. After a few minutes glaring at each other the man turned, muttering under his breath something Caleb couldn’t quite here. The frown still creasing his features Caleb bent his head down, kissing the top of her raven hair affectionately. It probably wasn’t necessary....but in case Caleb went off again he didn’t want Cassie to be bothered once more. “He still watching?” the man murmured, keeping his head bent low to her hair. 

The local event was in full swing, and, in true Mystic Falls the amount of underaged drunk idiots about was abound. Not that he cared - in fact it was sort of funny to watch them fumble around and trip on the woodland floor. Usually he would be one of those drunk idiots, but with work in the morning he had to be careful not to get too drunk. He’d learnt the hard way that a hangover and working in a garage was a bad combination. So instead he was alone, lent up against a wall with a cigarette in his hand, taking small drags as he watched the passers by, happy to be left to his own devices.

Until he noticed Cassie. The raven haired woman was not too far off, and from the two cups in her hand he could easily assume she’d been heading his way until someone stopped her. Someone that looked like they were making Cassie uncomfortable. Before he could register what his body was doing he’d dropped his cigarette to the floor, making his way over immediately.

“Right…” Lydia pressed her lips together in a thin line, hands resting on her hips as she regarded the male before her. She truly did have a problem with keeping her mouth shut so it wasn’t a huge shock that she’d spoken up to an absolute stranger. But dear god, someone had to. “Ever heard of ordering lunch? Running out on your break? Anything to avoid looking like a wild animal in a public setting?” A sickly sweet smile stretched over her lips and she patted the edge of the table. “You’re scaring the children.”

If the redhead was attempting to shame him in some way, it wasn’t working. Instead of apologising or looking embarrassed the dark haired male burst out laughing at her comment. “Some people don’t care about looking like a wild animal.” he said with a shrug, eyes gleaming with entertainment as he looked her up and down. She was stunning from head to toe - and clearly spent time in the morning doing so. “Though I’ve got to admit the prim and proper thing can be kind of cute sometimes.”

Wandering into the Grill, Cassie’s gaze then slid around the area, seeking out Caleb. Of course, she found him with his face already buried in a plate of food. “You’re so impatient!” The raven haired witch pouted, sliding into the booth opposite him. “I was literally five minutes late, you’re the worst. Now I gotta eat on my own.” A soft, adorable, huff then passed plump lips as her brows drew together. Resting her elbows on the table, she then propped her chin in her hands, eyeing the male. 

Even with sauce smeared all over his face, Cassie still thought him adorable. 

His grin only grew at his friends complaint, shrugging his shoulders as he pushed the almost demolished plate of fries towards her - a silent peace offering until her food came. “Yeah, but five minutes is like an hour in Caleb time.” he reminded her, a playful gleam in his eyes. “Besides, I ordered more food. Plus the Cassie favourite of course. I tried to time it for the second you got here but...” he paused, looking round with hopeful eyes before looking back at the girl, somewhat defeated. “Looks like I was a few minutes too late for that.” 

First day at a new school was always the most difficult, and thank god it was finally over. She was hoping the following days weren’t to be as difficult but with teenagers you never really knew the outcome. After work she found herself at the Mystic Grill finishing off her day with a glass of wine to try and help revive her mood. ‘’You’ve got a whole bottle of wine before i’m ready for any kind of socialising tonight.’’ she sighed before letting out a chuckle.’’Sorry,t’s been one of those days.’’
