Male socialization is such an evil rhetoric. Yeah I guess not transitioning at the age of 5 is my fault and I'm evil for it. Yeah I guess not having the childhood I wish I did means I'm a danger and I should perpetually apologize for it
"The fact that socialization is a specious argument became obvious to me during an exchange I had with a trans-woman-exclusionist who insisted that my being raised male was the sole reason in her mind for me to be disqualified from entering women-only spaces. So I asked her if she was open to allowing trans women who are anatomically male but who have been socialized female — something that’s not all that uncommon for MTF children these days. She admitted to having concerns about their attending. Then, I asked how she would feel about a person who was born female yet raised male against her will, and who, after a lifetime of pretending to be male in order to survive, finally reclaimed her female identity upon reaching adulthood. After being confronted with this scenario, the woman conceded that she would be inclined to let this person enter women-only space, thus demonstrating that her argument about male socialization was really an argument about biology after all. In fact, after being pressed a bit further, she admitted that the scenario of a young girl who was forced against her will into boyhood made her realize how traumatic and dehumanizing male socialization could be for someone who was female-identified. This, of course, is exactly how many trans women experience their own childhoods."

warrior cats was one of the first things i liked and i remember one of my classmates (when i was like 9 so circa 2009ish) calling me on the phone and helping me make an account on a warrior cats forum website they liked to use — but i had genuinely no idea how to use it because it was so text and hyperlink based but i wonder what would have happened if i had gone down that pipeline sometimes. the community is so beautiful and cool but i feel like ive been out of the game for the entire time the game has been happening. but its never too late to enjoy things you liked as a kid right…. i just started using the internet actively years after i was into the cats so i missed **everything**. i have been watching the SS warrior cats animated series on yt from 16y ago nd its so enjoyable. i feel like im catching up from the media i would have enjoyed at 10-12 if i had been there. i’m into the vintage wc community
reconnecting with my childhood self by reading warrior cats special editions during summer

they're not super common but i really do appreciate characters who are introduced as one gender and later revealed to be closeted trans. i like that it challenges the audience to really think about how they perceive trans people because realistically not every trans person you meet is going to be out to you at first. yes we introduced this character as a man and now we're asking you to reframe her as a woman after you've already gotten to know her. can you be normal about that? can you be normal when it happens to people you know in real life? i hope you can.

a fan community is having a lot of heated discourse about a polarizing character from a mostly animated franchise. a lot of these discussions come from the character making choices that are usually self-motivated and not considerate of those around them, sometimes even going out of their way to antagonize others, even people they call friends, and they can attribute a lot of their avoidant behavior to their unstable and unhealthy relationship with their mother figure.
this post could be about jax from tadc, bojack horseman, or vriska from homestuck, and i just think that’s funny and interesting how we have similar conversations around the morals of what characters you express fondness for or despise publicly
Having experienced a lot of it in my 20s, I think some of the worst, pettiest, most straight up this-is-just-bullying-you're-passing-off-as-praxis incidences of Queer Infighting endemic to young people can be best understood as attempts to exercise power by people with very little power.
Like you're 22, you're queer, you've just become a Marxist, the scope of World Suck is overwhelming and you have $30 in your bank account. What can you do to feel like you have any power? Well, you can try to get your frenemy cancelled for cosplaying a character from a problematic show. You can write a public callout post over someone's obviously friendly use of a slur you don't think they technically have the right to reclaim. Doing this stuff can make you feel like you have power and your actions have an impact. Unfortunately the impact in question is a negative impact on other marginalized people. But that often takes some maturity and self-reflection to notice.
I'm reminded of this post from 2017. To paraphrase, OP took part in community service via their university and part of that was cleaning the bathrooms at the local homeless community centre, which would frequently get trashed, not because the homeless people using them disrespected the work of the people cleaning them but because they had so little control over other things that happened in their lives, and the bathroom was something they could affect.
This, too, is a trashed bathroom; young queer people living through hell and having precious little control over their circumstances or the world in which they exist can affect something by using the language of social justice as a cudgel on their would-be allies, as well as getting a brief feeling of power over someone else by doing it.
It's not worth it. Don't trash your community bathrooms.
You will never 100% idiotproof your creative work & if you try to, you will only succeed in smothering the soul out of it. btw
not to be selfish but who wants to tell me this day long panic attack from stomach nausea will end. the reassurance helps idk why i can’t believe myself
i can’t get rid of this

also I don't think parents "these days" are uniquely terrible, I just think neglect is showing up in new ways as technology progresses. today's ipad kid would've been wandering around in a ditch alone all day and night before. parents not wanting to have to deal with children is not a new phenomenon.
is it controversial to say that the jaxcourse feels intimately similar to vriscourse
