It had been a long time since Cagney was able to leave his floral home. But with the threat of the Devil gone for a while, he decided it was time to get to explore Inkwell Isle. Instinctively, being a plant, he went to the shore-line, staring into the ocean.

The water looked so tranquil, he thought, not bothered at all by the troubles that made the entire Isle a place to fear. Speaking of which, wasn’t there one ex-debtor who ruled the seas? Not that pirate dude, definitely not... He stood there, various vines sticking out of the pot he kept his body in.

Upon seeing the equine, Cagney had a smile on his face. Not like the fake one that he usually put up, but more of a smug jerk sorta smirk.

It’s not like he had wanted to fight and he would have said as much if he knew it wasn’t a terrible excuse. He didn’t want to take the contracts, being able to hold people’s souls like that gave him the creeps to the highest degree.

“I…I’m sorry…!”

Hearing the apology, the flower’s expression went more neutral, his anger fading. It was odd, he wasn’t expecting someone who beat him up to be sorry about it.

“C’mon, don’t be sorry. It don’t matter now, ya kinda saved everyone’s lives, so...”

The planet inhaled, his petals clearly fluttering as he continued to hold back wanting to snap at Cuphead. Sure, being free of the Devil’s contract made him want to lighten up, but it was so hard not being angry at someone who was practically in charge of his fate for a while.

“I’ve been great! Life is so much better without worryin’ ‘bout someone takin’ my soul without my permission, without any regard of my feelin’s! Totally been absolutely dandy with the thought of how I got beat by some schmuck!”

Yeah he wasn’t okay. The fake smile on his face grew wide enough to be pretty dang unsettling.

When Cuphead brought it upon himself to break the silence between the two, the flower looked right at his little eyes. Cagney had his cute and happy facade on, but the aura of anger could be felt as the massive flower pointed a leaf.

“Why, if it isn’t Cuphead! Good to see ya! How ya doin’?” He spoke in a joyous tone, trying to act like he wasn’t thinking about the brawl they had.
