Coulson hugged Fitz back happily,Ā āIām so happy youāre here.ā He pulled away slightly and took in Fitz.Ā āHow are you doing? When did you get in?ā He folded his arms and smiled,Ā āMay is here too. Itās so great to see soo much oof the team here.āĀ
āDo you want to grab a drink? Or have you eaten today?ā Coulson asked him, flexing his robotic hand.Ā
Fitz squeezed Coulsonās shoulders, practically melting into the manās arms. There was something so reassuringĀ about the embrace. Leo missed his mother. He wondered if she was alright out there or if her and Nan had... No, donāt. He stopped, giving himself a mental shake and stepped back from the man he considered a father.
āJust got in yesterday, bit of a shock to me when I found the place.ā He admitted.Ā āIām alright, got all checked out and given a bill of good health, all things considered.ā He glanced down at his frail frame, malnourishment having taken what little weight had been able to cling to him pre-outbreak.Ā āMayās here?!ā He grinned at that, glad that they had her there. It was a good sign.
āIāve only just woken up, food sounds well good right about now. I think my scheduleās gonna take some time to adjust to this place.ā He glanced at Coulsonās hand curiously, noticing the movement.Ā āAlright there?ā
Bobby Becomes a Pool Boy || Open
winterwonderguyā:
āOh thank god that was the only thing you heard,ā Bobby breathed a sigh of relief, glad this new person only heard his totally solid pun and not the other nonsense heād been muttering to himself about. āYeah, that guy. He sometimes worked with the X-Men. And by worked, I mean annoyed us and somehow always got himself shot. Heās anā¦.. Interesting man.ā
Bobby nodded, glancing at the cube.Ā
āI could shove it outside Havenās walls. But I donāt want it melting and getting all stinky. No one wants that. Or like, tainting the ground it melts on. As for the pool I was just gonna fill it and let it be a pool. Itās been really hot out and I figured itād be a nice reprieve. Good exercise.ā He thought a moment. āI could burn itā¦ā He mused. āOh yeah, Iām Bobby Drake. Iceman. Whatever. Nice to meet you.ā
Fitz tilted his head as he listened, folding his arms across his chest. He figured heād look less like a trembling leaf this way.Ā āWere you, um, talking to yourself?ā He questioned. Fitz could relate to that emotion, getting flustered when others caught himĀ speaking aloud to himself. He figured it made sense to do these days, too many thoughts bouncing around in oneās head and, given the amount of time that heād been alone, the need to hear a human voice was just too great.
Fitz didnāt point out the use of usĀ when the other man said X-Men, though he was curious. He supposed it made sense, he was either a mutant, an Inhuman, or enhanced after all.Ā āSounds interesting, though I imagine heād be useful right about now.ā He muttered.
āWell howāre you supposed to fill it with these in there? Or are we, um, abandoning that idea?ā Fitz glanced at the cube, attempting to problem-solve the situation. He was correct about the issue of melting, but Fitz really wanted to prove useful.Ā āBurning might work, though, um, soggy things burn... not well...ā Unless you get some gasoline maybe.Ā āUm, Fitz. Nice to meet you too. I, uh, just got here.ā

when i was young my mom used to check if the iron was hot by touching it, and, i donāt know, i just feel like thereās a metaphor in there somewhere.

i find people who suck me dry, or maybe they find me. iāll always lend a helping hand, but for me thereās no guarantee. that is, of course, unless i have something they might need. looks like the price of loneliness has an exchange rate of greed. but iāll hang with peeps who take what they can then vanish without a trace, ācause i guess that being all used up is better than going to waste.

ANATOMY
take a moment and close your eyes when you imagine your insides, what do you see? do you see pink tunnels and white bones and a juicy, Ā Ā Ā red heart? do you imagine blue veins and green spleens like some textbook coloring book or some magic school bus amusement park ride? i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but under your layers of ivory, peachy, black, brown Ā Ā Ā or yellow skin is total darkness. there is no light inside of you. the color of you is the color of the back of your eyelids when i ask you to close your eyes and imagine your Ā Ā Ā insides. your heart, for all the long years of your life, has been beating in the dark.

family reunion with @curscdfitz
Coulson had been busy with inventory when someone had let him know that there was a new survivor in the camp. āFitz something,ā was the name he had been given, and it was enough for Coulson to drop what he was doing. Making his way over to the living area he asked around where the new survivor was staying. As he was directed, Coulson hurried to Fitzās quarters, happy that so much of the team was here.
Getting to his door, he knocked probably harder than he should with his prosthetic hand. āFitz!ā He called out, knocking again.
Fitz hadnāt slept so hard in so long. Sure, heād gotten lucky now and again to find a real bed but most of the time it was the ground or concrete he had made his bed upon. Having a soft bed to lay down and sleep in was a luxury. As soon as his head had hit the pillow heād passed out into a dreamless sleep.
Fitz bolted upright at the pounding on his door and reached for his knapsack, confused when he didnāt find it behind him. It took another moment to register that he was in Haven, not some abandoned apartment. There werenāt zombies outside of his door. Instead, a familiar voice rang through the wood. Fitz jumped out of bed and opened the door, staring into the face of his team leader.
āCoulson!ā He moved to hug the man, another wave of relief washing over him. So many of them had survived, more than he could have ever hoped for.

Jemma was getting better. It was a slow process, but she was making progress. The vitamins Bobbi gave her helped a lot. She was getting out of the lab more often and going home every night to take care of herself. Sleeping still wasnāt easy. She only got a few hours of restless sleep per night, but she wasnāt as frightened by it anymore. She was beginning to heal. The key was finding the balance between the amount of time she was keeping her mind busy and the time she allowed herself to empty it completely and meditate.
She was looking over some notes she was going to send to the next lab over. They had been a special request and she wanted to triple-check them. She looked up when she heard her name. Her heart nearly stopped at the recognition of the voice. For a moment, she thought she was hallucinating again, which had happened more than a few times back when she wasnāt getting any sleep or nutrition. But the figure before her was real.
Tears spilled out as she called out Fitzā name, voice cracking. She ran towards him, burying her head in his shoulder, wrapped her arms around him, and let out the breath she didnāt realize she was holding in. At the moment, she didnāt even stop to think about the fact he may not even want her touching him. The outbreak changed people in many ways. She knew that well. But she couldnāt think beyond being in his arms again.
āIā.ā her voice cracked again as she pulled away only enough to speak. āI thought you wereāā
She couldnāt say the words aloud. She thought he was dead. She had lost hope. But now, with her arms around him, she felt it returning. She held onto him as tight as she could.
āYouāre here,ā she cried. āIām so glad youāre here.ā
Fitz rubbed his hand across Jemmaās shoulders when she embraced him, shocked by the contact. His skin felt electrified, not having experienced much human touch since the outbreak. He felt as though he was going to come undone from the pressure but he also didnāt want her to ever let go. He gave a slight squeeze, eyes burning with unshed tears. He didnāt want to cry, didnāt want to ruin this moment. Jemma was here, in his arms, and they were alive. It was more than he could have asked for, more than he had allowed himself to hope for.
āY-Yeah, Jem... Iām-Iām here...ā He hiccuped, some tears escaping from his eyes despite his efforts.Ā āYouāre... Youāre...ā He shook his head and a sob ripped its way out of his throat, causing him to lose the battle against his own wave of sadness and relief.Ā āYouāre okay!ā He didnāt know how to tell her that he has also assumed she was dead despite his best efforts to not think about the possibilities.
His knees buckled and threatened to give out, causing him to stumble where he was standing with her.Ā āS-Sorry, I... Iām sorry, Iām so sorry..ā What he was apologizing for he couldnāt be certain. Separating from her? Losing hope? The pain sheād gone through while he was gone? There were so many things that were pressing guilt down onto him that he didnāt think he would ever be able to stand on his own again due to the weight of them.
Robotic Tasks
ironspiderfourteenā:
The robotic canine trotted towards the kitchen.Ā Handle of a basket held in its mouth.Ā Moving smoothly, with sleek metalĀ āskinā and a light blue light shining from its eyes.Ā Ā Ducking into the kitchens it found one of workers there to deliver a request and pick up a snack.Ā Ā Basket filled it left the kitchen area and started moving back down the hallway headed for the elevator.
Most didnāt react at all to the atypical sight.Ā Then again this place was founded by Tony Stark, so unusual tech even now may just become common place.Ā Ā Alternatively this robot regularly made this run and while a few heads still turned, most just moved around or went about their business.Ā Ā
It perhaps helped that the thing did have a complete metallic skin.Ā There were not any exposed wires, or parts.Ā The movements mimicked that of a real canine.Ā Ā An excellent example of engineering and programming.Ā Ā Though a bit extreme if justĀ used to fetch food.
It was odd getting used to the camp, the layout and the people. Fitz was trying to keep his head down, get his bearings, before he approached new people. Heād never been good with people. He wondered what it would have been like to know this existed, to have any inkling that this was possible. He thinks he might have had a little more urgency or at least a tad bit more hope.
Something he had not expected to spot was a robotic dog with a basket of food. Fitz glanced about, noticing that people didnāt seem bothered by the little companion. He quietly followed, taking mental notes about how smoothly this dog was moving, how lifelikeĀ the machinery was behaving.
āWho made this?ā He wondered aloud, keeping a mild distance from the canine in case of malfunction or a register of danger that may occur if he approached. He found his hands itching to reach out and touch it and was barely able to hold back.Ā āWhere are you going?ā

Fitz rubbed his newly shaved face with both hands, glad that Bobbi had provided him with the means to clean himself up. He pulled at his sleeves then, noting that the shirt heād kept in his bag didnāt seem to fit as well as it used to. Heād lost weight and it hadnāt started off on his own anyway. He needed to go face Jemma, to go see she was alive with his own two eyes. When Bobbi had first told him Simmons was in Haven heād nearly bolted from the conversation, not thinking about his actions. He was glad heād waited, though, glad that she wasnāt going to see him in such a terrible state.Ā Now the nerves and doubts were settling into the pit of his stomach and he was more scared of what might happen. He headed out based on the directions Bobbi had given him for the lab, heart pounding in his chest.Ā
What if she didnāt recognize him? What if he didnāt recognize her? What if she hated him for disappearing? What if she had met someone else? What if... What if... What if...Ā Fitz hadnāt allowed himself to think that deeply on what a possible reunion with Jemma would look like, believing that it wouldnāt be possible. He had mostly replayed memories of them. The Academy where they had tried so hard to compete before realizing they were better as a team. Sci-Ops where theyād worked side-by-side every day, known as FitzSimmons, the brain. The B.U.S. team. Their first kiss. Her smile. Her laughter. Her brilliant mind. When things had seemed bleak heād clung to those memories.
Heād gotten so lost in his thoughts that he was confused when he reached the lab doors and hesitated before entering.Ā āS-Simmons?ā He called out, noting just how foreignĀ this lab was despite feeling that familiar hum of electronics.Ā āJ-Jemma... Itās....ā His voice died, spotting his other half.Ā
She really was safe.
